Quaint and idyllic are two words well-used when describing this ancient fishing village with traditional cottages packed around a busy, working harbour. So narrow and full of character are the streets near the seafront here, that you are encouraged to park your vehicle further away and board the cute land train which takes you in to Polperro.

13.5 miles from Fowey (via Bodinnick)

For those wishing to visit Fowey – the picturesque haven for foodies, the best way to arrive is by water. Take a short drive to Bodinnick, board the ferry and prepare to fall in love with the winding streets of Fowey; packed full of stylish shops, cafes and tempting eateries.

Either way, make a day of it and pack a picnic to enjoy part way. For more experienced ramblers, the atmospheric Bodmin Moor is around 17 miles away and provides a jaw-dropping backdrop to those wanting to see the rugged moorland and its granite tors.

Get up Close and Personal with some Wildlife

The monkey sanctuary at Looe is a rescue centre for a number of species of animal, from woolly monkeys to bats and amphibians. The centre offers fun-filled days out for the whole family with gardens, play zones, plenty of animals and the opportunity to be a keeper for a day.

If you would prefer to be out on the water spotting marine life, there are some fantastic glass bottom boat tours available in Looe. Head off in search of fish, seals and dolphins who frolic around Looe Island.
