An outstanding Georgian residence, Sterling House is situated in an enviable position in the heart of the seaside town of Marazion, famous for the castle-topped island of St Michael's Mount, and only yards from the two mile long tract of white sand beach.
A superior venue where families, friends and wedding and corporate parties can congregate, the opulent interior provides an elegant and relaxing home with many period features complemented with antique furnishings dating back to the 19th Century and careful use of contemporary pieces. The house has a fascinating history and splendid architectural features and contains personal effects belonging to Thomas Lefroy, who was widely believed to have been the basis for Mr Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, including his dressing table and four-poster bed.
Arranged over four floors, the impressively spacious interior comprises five en-suite bedrooms, four of which boast magnificent sea views with the fifth overlooking the delightful garden. The master suite, equipped with a super king size bed, occupies the entire top floor from where it possible to sight St Michael's Mount and the coastline as it traces its intricate path along Mount's Bay to the ancient market town of Penzance, the major fishing port of Newlyn and the charismatic village of Mousehole.
On the ground floor there is ample space to relax in either the sitting room or high ceilinged drawing room with formal dining facilities and the modern kitchen boasts a fashionable electric range cooker and a sizeable table, large enough to comfortably cater for 12. The extensive walled garden at the rear of the house is a very special feature, beautifully kept and well planted with sub-tropical plants, terraces, lawns and garden furniture for alfresco dining. There is ample parking for four cars, which is a premium in Marazion with cafes, galleries, pubs and restaurants within a few moments' walk.
Just around the corner is Ben's Cornish Kitchen which won Best Restaurant in the county in Trencherman's Guide 2015. For a cosy traditional pub The King's Arms serves excellent food as does the newly refurbished Godolphin Arms; a great place to relax with a coffee and enjoy the view from the terrace. Heading out of town there are more good eateries within a short drive including The Falmouth Packet at Rosudgeon, Rick Stein's and Kota in Porthleven, The Old Coastguard at Mousehole and in Penzance, The Barn and The Bay at Hotel Penzance. Marazion is well placed for exploring and a tour around the far west of the County should include a stop at Mousehole. This small fishing village which Dylan Thomas once described as 'the loveliest in England' has not changed much over the years and retains its charm and traditional feel today. The Minack Theatre with sits above Porthcurno Beach was built by Rowena Cade who bought the headland in the 1920's. There is a visitor centre which tells the story of how this determined lady built the theatre with her own hands. Continuing west will take you to Lands End and the world class beach at Sennen Cove before progressing around to St Ives to browse in the multitude of galleries in the town showcasing work by local artists. A highly desirable residence, Sterling House presents an opportunity to create a very memorable holiday experience.
