Shell Cottage, St Ives

Property Description

Hidden amongst hundreds of old fisherman's cottages in the most fun part of St Ives town is this quirky cottage. St Ives, a beautiful and busy fishing port, sits amidst five sandy beaches: Carbis Bay, St Ives Harbour, Porthgwidden, Porthkidney and the closest to Shell Cottage - Porthmeor. All are popular with both watersports enthusiasts and families alike offering great surfing and coastal walks. The town's narrow and cobbled streets offer galleries, craft shops, surf shops, many top quality cafes and restaurants, and artists' studios including The Barbara Hepworth museum and Sculpture Garden, The Penwith Gallery showcasing local artists the Tate Modern Gallery and Bernard Leach Pottery. St Ives has always attracted writers and artists, including Virginia Woolf and D.H.Lawrence. On the first Monday of each February, the 'Hurling the Silver Ball' custom takes place. The St Ives May Day festival is a modern revival of customs that were at one time common throughout the west of Cornwall. The St Ives September Festival is one of the longest running and widest ranging Festivals of the Arts in the UK. It lasts fifteen days and includes a range of arts from Music (including Folk, Jazz, Rock, Classical & World) to Poetry, Film, Talks and Books. Shell Cottage, once discovered, is not forgotten; there is a well equipped kitchen/dining room looking into the courtyard and intriguing twin room on the ground floor, steps rise into the living room with access to a sheltered terrace ideal for barbecues. There is a bunk room (suitable for children up to the age of 12) and double bedroom with good sized family bathroom. This is a comfortable pad for keen beach goers, or indeed those who enjoy evening entertainment available all year round, with many different dishes and local fayre to appreciate. Guests can park in one of the car parks nearby.
