Situated in a prime position in the unspoilt village of Coverack is this thatched, traditional fisherman's cottage. It takes its name from a Norwegian ship that was shipwrecked nearby in 1912. Luckily all hands were saved by the locals and the name plate of one of the original lifeboats still hangs on the wall inside the cottage. Nowadays, the cottage, believed to be one of the oldest in the village, has been tastefully and comfortably appointed in keeping with its history. The inglenook fireplace with its original bread oven, old beams and the stable front door add to its charm and character. The spacious living room and pretty bedrooms have glorious uninterrupted views out to sea through the large sash windows. On balmy summer nights tired explorers are lulled to sleep by the sound of the sea. A table and chairs at the front of the property provide a perfect spot to sip a glass of wine and watch the boats sailing around the cove. Winter guests can curl up with a good book or film on comfortable sofas next to the crackling wood burner and enjoy the views of the waves rolling across the bay. Access to the beach is only a few yards from the cottage. It is ideal for families, sandy at low tide with rock pools to explore. The cottage has a well equipped galley kitchen, or for those who prefer to eat out there is a selection of excellent cafes and restaurants within a short stroll, all serving delicious, fresh, locally sourced produce. The village pub, The Paris, the well stocked village store and several of the cafes and restaurants are open all year round. Visitors are always welcomed at the Christmas and New Year Festivities. Gunvor Cottage is an ideal base for exploring The Lizard Peninsulas' many attractions including Coverack Windsurfing School and the spectacular Coastal Pathway which runs nearby. Or you may just choose to abandon your car on Gunvors' much coveted off street parking and take time to relax and soak up the tranquility of this idyllic little 'house by the sea'.
