Property Description

One of Cornwall's best kept secrets, the peaceful coastal village of Porthallow has escaped modern influences remaining unspoilt and unchanged. Here cottages nestle around a pebble fishing cove popular with the angling and diving fraternity and visitors are content to let time drift by enjoying the sight of waves crashing around the rocky headlands and walking the coast path. A detached 1920's dormer bungalow situated only yards from the cove, Rutherglens pale blue exterior is in keeping with the coastal setting and homely comfort abounds within its restyled interior. Made snug by an open fire, the lounge is instantly inviting with tasteful furnishings and a red cushioned cream suite resting on pale laminate flooring. Although compact, the adjoining kitchen is well fitted in a range of limed oak cabinets and across the hall there is a separate dining room. Useful for those unable to climb the steep stairs, a bathroom, shower room and a double bedroom are also on the ground floor. An outbuilding at the rear provides storage for beach gear. On a balmy summers day the effort of climbing up a flight of steps (unsuitable for elderly or infirm) to a secluded railed deck will be rewarded by panoramic views to the sea. A picturesque area to explore, the tranquil waters of the Helford River and Frenchman's creek which so inspired Daphne De Maurier are not far away and sailing enthusiasts can hire a boat from St Anthony. The renowned 'Five Pilchards Inn' is now open all year and nearby St Kevern boasts small shops and two pubs. There is parking for one car.
