To the south of the harbour, the footpath traces its way along a beautiful coastline beginning at Ready Money Cove, a sandy beach sheltered by cliffs and bounded on one side by St Catherine's Castle, and passing along Love Lane through peaceful woodlands to Gribbin Head. The river, estuary and surrounding countryside, where the writer Daphne du Maurier found inspiration for her romantic novels, are a splendid domain for yachtsmen, fishermen and walkers. Across the waterways sits Polruan, a charismatic port which is well worth a visit on the passenger foot ferry to survey the full scope of Fowey in all its glory. Never short of interest and spectacle there is a full schedule of events throughout the year, more notably Regatta Week, Du Maurier Festival and Fowey Christmas Market as well as the regular farmer's markets, concert and theatre performances, boat trips and guided walks. Fowey is within easy reach of the charming fishing villages at Looe and Polperro, the sandy beaches at Talland Bay and Whitsand Bay, the stately homes at Cotehele, Lanhydrock and Antony House, the magnificent gardens at The Eden Project and Heligan, the granite moorlands at Bodmin and the vibrant maritime city of Plymouth. Comfortable for couples and small groups and breaks at any time year, the cottage is equipped with full central heating and a gas fire adds a cosy ambience in the sitting room. Guests have access to a shared patio with garden furniture and barbeque and views over cottage roof tops towards the river and estuary. Parking can be found in the public car park which is about a five minute walk away.
