More about the property
The cool contemporary interior of Gig Cottage belies its traditional cottage facade and close proximity to the quaint fishing harbour. With views across the higgledy piggeldy roof tops to the sea from the first floor, this terraced cottage is positioned on a hill just a short downhill walk (slightly longer on the way back up) from the bustling quayside. Within 20 metres of the cottage the stunning panoramic views of the bay and the harbour can be savoured. Mevagissey remains the quintessential Cornish fishing village with vessels chugging past the pier and breakwater and out to sea daily. The village retains all the old world charm of narrow streets clustered with cottages vying for views of the sea and old fish cellars now converted into small shops, cafes and restaurants offering local seafood. For a day at the beach the pretty cove at Portmellon is within an easy walk and the sandy beach at Pentewan is within 3 miles. Garden lovers will delight at The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the world renowned Eden Project, both of which are within 10 miles. Grade II Listed, the cottage was once the home of a Cornish Gig Pilot; recognised as one of the first shore-based lifeboats that went to the aid of vessels in distress as far back as the 17th Century. Since its heyday the interior of the cottage has been cleverly re-arranged to create a modern and attractive pied-a-terre that is perfect for a couple seeking to be close to the heart of the village. On the ground floor are a beautifully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with slate floor and under floor heating. An open-tread spiral staircase (not suitable for the infirm) rises to a bedroom with a view of the sea, a dining room with wood floor and a tasteful bathroom.
