Just moments from the harbour in the centre of this picturesque coastal village is The Sail Loft; a chic newly converted seaside studio apartment. Portloe is one of the most charming villages on the Roseland Peninsula; the pretty stone cottages cling to its steep sided valleys overlooking the azure blue waters of the cove. The village has changed little over the years, making it a popular film location; in 1949 Disney chose the village for scenes in Treasure Island and 1991 Channel 4's The Camomile Lawn was shot here. A busy pilchard fishing port in the past, now just three boats work from the cove mainly for crab and lobster which can be sampled at the local Lugger Hotel and restaurant and the Ship Inn. The Roseland peninsula offers some of the most unspoilt countryside in Cornwall, with beautiful sandy beaches, craggy coastal and creekside paths and breathtaking scenery. To the west of Portloe is the delightful village of St Mawes, home to the famous Tresanton Hotel. From St Mawes you can hop on the passenger ferry to Falmouth or continue around the peninsula and catch the car ferry across the Truro River to Trelissick Gardens and on to Truro, the capital of Cornwall. A recent conversion using stone and cedar wood cladding, the sail loft is quite delightful and great care and attention has been paid to create a light and airy space with high quality furnishings. The apartment is open plan and offers accommodation for two on a double sofa bed. There is a cleverly designed kitchenette with a hob and microwave and a small fridge and a dining table for 2-4 people. Outside there is parking for one car which is highly unusual in the village and a pleasant courtyard area with table and chairs for alfresco dining.
