A selection of holiday properties in Camborne
Camborne is ideally located in central Cornwall and therefore provides an ideal base for exploring the whole of the county. During the nineteenth century, Camborne was highly industrious due to the Cornish tin mining industry, and today there are still many engine houses in the Camborne/Redruth area. Internationally renowned Camborne School of Mines is located just outside of the town, and King Edward Mine and Museum is open for tours. The great Victorian engineer, Richard Trevithick, lived and worked in Camborne and the surrounding area. Trevithick invented the high pressure steam engine and also built the first full-scale working steam locomotive. Each April, Camborne celebrates its engineering and mining heritage on Trevithick Day - with a fair, dancing and craft stalls. Tehidy Woods are located just outside Camborne, along with Tehidy Golf Club – the woods provide the ideal place to take your dog walking or enjoy a family picnic. Camborne is just a few miles from the popular family beach at Portreath, and a 10 minute drive from the three-mile long sandy beaches at Hayle and Gwithian where the surf is amongst the best in the county.
