A selection of holiday properties in St Just
St Just is Britain’s most westerly town; steeped in history of tin and copper mining you will find an abundance of unused engine houses dotted around the countryside, which has been designated a World Heritage Site. Within the town and further afield, you will find cliffs with cliff castles and of course, beaches. St Just has also been nicknamed "The Granite Town" due to its geological topography made blatant by the towering cliffs of the peninsula. Contemporarily, the town is host to many artists who are drawn there by the stunning coastal scenery and landscape. St Just is a small town but there is an abundance of activity and nearby sites to keep you occupied. There are a couple of pubs ("The King's Arms" and "Star Inn"), as well as "Yasmin's Deli" and "The Cook Book" if you'd prefer alternative food. There are also two restaurants called"The Wellington Hotel Restaurant" and "Commercial Hotel and Inn". There is a theatre: "Plain-an-Gwary" which was used for miracle plays in medieval times but is now used during Lafrowda Festival each July, a salon ("Shelley's Hair and Beauty") and an art and craft shop within the village. The nearest major town with a supermarket is Penzance where you can access a Tesco, Morrisons and KFC before you enter the main town. Nearby attractions include an abundance of gardens and estates: Trengwainton, Trewidden, Morrab Gardens and Trereife Park (Trereife provides a great deal for families as they do historical tours, have a tea room and pottery kiln). There is also a Parish Church in nearby Sancreed which dates back to the 15th century where a 3 foot pillar "Selus Stone" can be seen. There are remains of "Caer Bran" and "Carn Euny" too. There are three tin mines in the area too: 1. Botallack "The Crowns Engine House" which is perched on the cliffs. Its upper shaft extends 2000feet under the sea. 2. Levant which has a restored steam engine run by the National Trust; the oldest working beam steam engine. 3. Geevor. This mine only ceased working a few years ago and is now a museum where tours of the underground and surface workings are available. It contains many artefacts and machinery. For adults there is also a nearby Golf Club ("Cape Cornwall Golf and Country Club"), meadery ("Trewellard Meadery") and pub ("The Queen's Arms"). For the family there is Paradise Park, JungleBarn, Minack Theatre and Flambards - all further afield. The nearest beaches are Porth Nanven, Sennen Cove, Gwynver Cove, Porthcurno and Portheras.
