A selection of holiday properties in St Keverne
St Keverne is the largest village in the Helford area and has a central square. The square comes alive in the summer months with annual festivals: The Ox Roast; Carnival; and Rodeo. There are two pubs: "The White Hart" and "The Three Tuns"; an organic restaurant "The Greenhouse Restaurant" which caters for many dietary requirements (their gluten-free fish and chips are very popular on Wednesdays); a Post Office; a Newsagents; a Garage; Retallack's Butchers; Londis and Health Centre. Look out for Sid's Fish and Chips van too! Two famous Cornish rebellions have their roots in St Keverne: the 1497 Cornish Rebellion against the raising of war taxes on insolvent Cornish tin miners by King Henry VII, and the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion. A statue of An Gof is situated on the road leading towards Coverack in commemoration of the 500th anniversary. There is also a memorial plaque to the executed leaders of the rebellion on the wall of the village church. The village is a hub of talent and "The Caudlers" who put on a pantomime every year and this year (2011) they have been performing for 40 years with many of the original cast still treading the boards. If you are in the area, be sure to go and experience the local talent.
