St Martin is a village located near the Helford River. The countryside surrounding the Helford River is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its peace and tranquillity. Newtown-in-St Martin has a Filling Station run by a charming couple which sells local produce as well as dog food and everyday necessities. There is a pub in Newtown too, "The Prince of Wales" which has had a refurbishment under the new proprietorship and is well worth a visit. En route from St Martin (which only has a school now) to Garras, is a fantastic organic farm shop, "Gear Farm" owned by David Webb. His organic pasties are so good that they are delivered by the thousands to London's Whole Foods Markets. Mr Webb sells locally made bread, cakes, juices, Primrose Herd sausages, bacon and other products, Ewes yoghurt, Roskillys ice cream, Gwenen Apiary honey, jams and marmalades, pasties, locally-sourced fish and also has a wood-fire oven which over certain lunch-times is used to produce 'made-to-order' pizzas e to eat in or take-away. It is also possible to sit in and have a coffee and read the newspaper whilst enjoying a sticky pecan bun or pain-au-raisin. On site at Gear there is also a Spiezia Organic product shop and the ability to purchase organic cotton clothes. Cornish Camels and Rosuick Organic Farm at Traboe, located between St Martin, St Keverne and Goonhilly as the crow flies, is home to a family of Bactrian camels and some wallabies. The farm also has a gift shop and a café, and offers tractor and camel rides.
