The property

Featured in BBC-TV's Fisherman's Apprentice, Cadgwith is one of the most mesmerising fishing/artist villages in an area of outstanding beauty.

A few yards from the sea, the village and coastal path, Mengarth is a substantial detached house that is hard to resist.

This is a place for all who love the smell of sea air, fresh fish from the boat, rock pool expeditions, cliff top rambles, sea shanties, time with family and friends and good food and beer at the 300 year old smugglers' inn.

Cadgwith could not be lovelier; it is the destination to slowdown and unwind, where modern world stresses are shut out.

Centuries-old cottages, mostly thatch, spill from the valley down to the shore and small fishing boats launch from the shingle beach as they have been for generations.

There is a separate sandy beach for sunbathing and swimming and nearby Kynance Cove, rated as one of the best beaches in the world by the National Trust.

Cadgwith is a little village with a big social calendar; gig racing, a regatta, summer barbecues and live music feature through the year.

It is also a great launch pad for sailing on the Helford, golfing at Mullion's coastal course and the gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan are simply stunning and Rick Stein's seafood restaurant at nearby Porthleven is epicurean heaven. Set into the hillside and back from the road, Mengarth commands an outstanding position.

Once you arrive you do not need to get back in to the car.

Inside find spacious dimensions, slate flagstones, wood flooring, wood burner, books, artistic touches, sauna for post cliff top rambles.

There is something about the relaxed mood at Mengarth that is so appealing: a real home.

Reverse level to appreciate the sea views from the large sitting room and the patio while the outlook from the steep terraced garden is unbeatable (take care on the steps).

There are three bathrooms, all modern and spotless, and four bedrooms offering flexible accommodation.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

CADGWITH

Lizard 3.4 miles; Helston 11.1 miles; Coverack 8.2 miles.

A traditional fishing village on the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Cadgwith is unspoilt and timeless. Quintessentially Cornish, its narrow streets are lined with former pilchard cellars, higgledy piggledy whitewashed cottages and charming smugglers’ inns. Time here is spent walking the coastal footpath, building sandcastles on the beach and fishing the waters for mackerel. The village is home to a small number of shops including a gift shop, craft shop and a fishmonger’s where you buy delicious crab sandwiches. It also has a lively events calendar, with weekly sea-shanty nights, summer barbecues, a regatta and a fortnightly fishing competition. The market town of Helston is eleven miles away, here you will find an excellent farmers’ market on the first Saturday of the month – a great place to pick up some local produce for your stay.

Note: Please state at the point of booking if you require the zip link beds in the twin bedroom to be left as twin beds or to be zip linked together to make a super king. Please note, in the absence of requesting twin beds, the zip-link shall be made up as a super king.
Note: The baths Jacuzzi system doesn't work but can be used as a normal bath (note why it is not advertised with Jacuzzi bath).
Note: Check in time for this property is 6pm.
