“On arrival the lodge appeared to have been cleaned superficially with dust & cobwebs on window sills and in corners.”

The lodge smelt of stale cigarette or "Vape" smoke. The walls the shower and bath overflow had black hairs stuck to them. After unpacking and eating we settled down to watch the TV and I was immediately bitten on the ankle by a flea which I caught and drowned in a glass of water. Initially we put this down as a one off and went to bed . Over the following night I received 4 to 5 painful bites which came up as large red wheals, my son also complained of being bitten. We took pictures of the bites to evidence which have been sent to you. Throughout the following day we tried to contact maintenance on the two numbers provided without success. The next evening both my Husband and myself were bitten on several occasions with the guilty fleas caught and dispensed in the same glass of water as the first, again pictures were taken & have been sent to you. We again attempted to contact maintenance and the owner, and had to resort to contacting Sykes to sort out. The house had to be fumigated meaning we couldn't access the property for all of the 24/10/23. Even after fumigation we were still catching fleas so made the decision to cut our holiday short.

The property

Tamar Valley Resort offers great value accommodation in a scenic haven well known for its outstanding natural beauty.

The lodge-style accommodation is well placed for guests looking to explore a little of both Cornwall and Devon with some fantastic local attractions nearby. Within a short drive is Cotehele, a Tudor house and valley garden estate set above the River Tamar or a little further afield you can visit the glorious sandy beach at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs.

Equally accessible is the magical Dartmoor National Park with undulating moorlands and a myriad of historic sites and monuments - a rambler's dream. Just a short walk from the on site leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, bar, shop and reception are the Valley Lodges.

During the school holidays there is a busy programme of entertainment including quiz nights and karaoke plus sporting activities (seasonal, subject to availability, extra charges apply) including archery, rock climbing, canoeing and abseiling.

Arranged in small clusters along the valley stream, these typical lodge-style holiday homes are arranged over two floors with upstairs and downstairs terraces from which to enjoy the outside space.

With the living space upstairs, guests are able to step out on to a decked balcony and take in the rural outlook towards Dartmoor and across the Tamar Valley. The accommodation is spacious and well presented; perfect for families and friends to kick back and relax after a day at the beach or walking adventure.

The private hot tub on the decked area is a real luxury - ideal for an evening tipple or sun soaked bathe.

The open-plan living room is the heart of the homestay with doors to the decked balcony with seating and table for sunshine dining and leafy views beyond.

The dining area with big table for feasts and board games, makes a great social space and the kitchen is modern and bright.

The ground floor bedrooms are comfy with ample storage space; the master leads out to the decked patio area and has a Jack and Jill en-suite bathroom.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
