If you are considering buying a holiday home in Cornwall, there are so many options when it comes to...
Sea the View and Sea Eden are two absolutely exceptional new luxury holiday properties, nestled close to the picturesque Sennen Cove in the far West of Cornwall. These sumptuous boltholes are both let through Cornish Cottage Holidays and provide a unique base for family and friends to enjoy.
As you drive the coastal route towards Lands End, you’ll notice the magnificent new build structure, where both of our newest properties Sea the View and Sea Eden are located.
Designed and built as an exclusive development by Karl Callighan, these dwellings have far-reaching views to the sea to the south, while you can also see the sea to the North of the properties. Guests will be able to explore the wonders of West Cornwall from their doorstep, with Nanjizal beach at Sennen Cove close by, or take an exhilarating walk along the South West Coast Path to see the ancient ruins of Maen Castle and Mayon Cliff Shipwreck.
These two eco-friendly properties ooze style and opulence from top to bottom, with plush fabrics and sumptuous decor throughout, hand-selected by Tara Donavon Soltys, Quality Assurance Manager for Cornish Cottage Holidays who has been instrumental in the project.
Tara was drafted in by the property’s owner from the outset of the project and has scoured the region for fabulous bespoke pieces to make Sea the View and Sea Eden truly unique and stand apart in a crowded holiday home market. Tara describes what these properties add to the Cornish Cottage Holidays portfolio; “They bring a touch of luxury, unique design and a bespoke level of opulence. Karl gives the very best to his holiday homes and is prepared to go all out to give people an absolute treat.”
Filled with beautiful furnishings throughout, including statement Heritage copper style bathtubs in both bedrooms, an imposing chandelier to greet you as you make your way upstairs, Sea the View is not your average two-bedroom holiday property. With plush fabrics and a real wow factor in the Venetian plaster on feature walls, no stone has been left unturned in the effort to create a truly decadent holiday home for guests to enjoy.
The fabrics throughout have been chosen by hand and sourced from local suppliers where possible, including the rather grand ottoman (pictured above) in the master bedroom, providing a splash of colour in an already lavish and decadent master suite.
Sea the View has a fabulous open-plan living space, which is beautifully designed with a chic seating area with a woodburning stove and an impressive wall-mounted TV, as well as a modern kitchen with an island breakfast bar and a stylish dining area. History takes centre stage in the dining space as the table is made from a 400-year-old tree trunk, tailor-made exclusively for this property.
The downstairs area allows light to flood through the large bi-fold doors and truly helps to bring the outside in, connecting the house to the well-kept garden. Maintaining a sense of outdoor-indoor living was an important aspect of the build for Karl; “The doors linking the garden to the living space makes the garden feel as if it could almost be an interior room. The sun is there all day long as it is south facing, it will be a very nice house for guests to enjoy throughout the year.”
There is an abundance of outdoor seating from hammocks to the handcrafted sunset bar, complete with swings, providing guests with the chance to truly live the Cornish lifestyle from the comfort of their holiday home. Tara said; “Picture sitting on a swing, sipping a cocktail at the end of the day. The idea was inspired by a holiday to the Caribbean, where I once sat on a set of swings at a bar, it was bliss.”
The garden is perfect for watching the sun set at the end of another incredible day by the Cornish coast (sunset bar pictured above).
Just a couple of doors down from Sea the View lies Sea Eden, another wonderful holiday home with character and style in abundance, the ultimate setting for a group or family getaway to the far West of Cornwall.
Sea Eden has an lavish open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining space on the ground floor, which has two sumptuous crushed velvet sofas looking out across the garden and facing a wall-mounted flat screen TV, as well as a dining area which boasts a 400-year-old walnut table and a stylish grey kitchen; the perfect space to enjoy with your loved ones.
The feature artwork on the walls in here also tells quite a story. The three almost floor to ceiling paintings were originally commissioned for, and have been hung previously, in the biomes at The Eden Project. Property owner Karl said; “These original artworks, called Warchild, are mind blowing, and we are very lucky to have them in the property. I have had the frames re-made and re-glazed to fit.” Fittingly, this is where the property’s name, Sea Eden originates.
The property is surrounded by a well-maintained space with lots of gorgeous plants and a hot tub at the end of the garden with far-reaching views, with plenty of seating for those long summer nights by the sea.
Upstairs are three great sized bedrooms, the first is the quirky super-king master suite complete with a walk-in shower. There are two further zip linked twin bedrooms which can be made super king upon request. Another generously sized bathroom can be found upstairs with beautiful rust effect tiles which add another element of style to the property.
Everything the owner has added has been finished to a tremendously high standard, including the polished concrete floors throughout, studded with green Cornish glass, which shimmer as the light shines on them.
When talking to Karl, we asked him a few questions about these two newest additions to his portfolio.
“Yes, absolutely. I have high hopes for these two, location wise being at Sennen Cove, it’s an up and coming place and it’s a great area and these [properties] will be part of that.”
Karl specifically chose Sennen Cove and this spot for these properties because of the array of things to do in the local area for guests to enjoy. Karl said; “The private road, Sunny Corner Lane, next to the house takes you to the footpath for Sennen – walking to touch the sand is 8-10 mins, 5 mins if you run!
In the other direction, you can see Porthcurno from both the houses. There is a beautiful route to get there, which is just a six-minute drive or a 45-minute walk through the fields. I do a lot of cliff walks and the best spots are from Sennen to Porthcurno and the whole Headland of Lands End – it is my favourite place, the beaches are a paradise in the summer.”
“There are some great walks really close by with the beach and coast. I think guests will love cooking nice meals and enjoying fine wines by the coast. It is a very relaxing place and everything is handmade and bespoke.”
“I’ve learnt a lot from my other properties and have really made sure to spend the extra money to make sure they have something even more special and unique. I think people will be blown away. It has blown me away (seeing it all come together the way it has).”
These two new holiday cottages in Cornwall are a real treat for family and friends to enjoy an escape to the Cornish coast.
