November marks National Vegan Month, and to celebrate we have decided to create a vegan guide to one of our favourite Cornish towns, <\/strong>St Ives<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

According to research by Compare the Market<\/a>, there has been a significant spike in veganism in the past few years with over 3.5 million people in Britain (7% of the population) identifying as vegan.<\/p>\n

Whether you are vegan, plant-based or just cutting down on animal products, it can often be difficult to find places that provide vegan food. St Ives is a great destination in general for foodies, but in recent years the offering has grown substantially for vegetarians and vegans.<\/p>\n

Vegan Pasties<\/h2>\n

\"Vegan<\/p>\n

The Yellow Canary<\/a><\/h3>\n

A soy latte and sweet apple and blackcurrant pasty at the Yellow Canary is an enjoyable way to start the day. For later on in the day, their savoury vegan pasties are also very popular, with flavours like Thai Green Curry being a delicious option.<\/p>\n

Pengenna Pasties<\/a><\/h3>\n

You can also buy vegetable pasties from Pengenna Pasties. Pengenna sell scones and a range of sweet pastries and flapjacks suitable for vegans.<\/p>\n

Warrens Bakery St Ives<\/a><\/h3>\n

Warren\u2019s bakery is one of the oldest pasty makers in Cornwall, so it’s not surprising that they are quick to adapt to the growing demand for vegan pasties. They offer three flavours, an original Cornish Pasty-style flavour, Mexican and Thai flavours.<\/p>\n

Vegan Cream Teas<\/h2>\n

Cornish pasties and cream teas<\/a> are synonymous with Cornwall, so finding out that you can get vegan options of both in St Ives really is a treat.<\/p>\n

Market Place Tea Rooms<\/a><\/h3>\n

Head to the Market Place Tea Rooms for vegan scones with vegan cream (yes that\u2019s right even cream!). They also offer tasty vegan waffles with a range of toppings.<\/p>\n

Vegan Ice Creams<\/h2>\n

An ice cream on a hot summer\u2019s day is a British institution, so why should you miss out?<\/p>\n

Willy Wallers Ice Cream Factory<\/a><\/h3>\n

Enjoy a range of dairy-free sorbets, including an incredibly creamy chocolate flavour that is very popular.<\/p>\n

Vegan Fish and Chips<\/h2>\n

The Rum and Crab Shack<\/a><\/h3>\n

One of St Ives much loved eateries launched a vegan menu this year and it has been a hit. Head to The Rum and Crab Shack for a great atmosphere and mouth-wateringly good vegan fish and chips, as well as mac and cheese, tacos, jackfruit burgers and \u2018crab\u2019 cakes with tartar sauce. Vegan beers are also available.<\/p>\n

The vegan menu is not currently visible on the Rum and Crab Shack\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

\n

Vegan Desserts<\/h2>\n

The Raw Chocolate Pie Company<\/a><\/h3>\n

St Ives is home to the The Raw Chocolate Pie Company, who now sell their range of superfood chocolate goodies nationwide. They stock many flavours including chocolate & chilli or raw chocolate goji. My current favourite is the green tea and coconut. Most are vegan and are delicious.<\/p>\n

Vegan Cafes in St Ives<\/h2>\n

Scoff Troff Cafe<\/a><\/h3>\n

A quirky cafe with a diverse menu that offers a number of vegan options. The cafe is open throughout the day and evening, with scrambled tofu on offer with vegan breakfasts and vegan burger and pizza options available in the evening.<\/p>\n

\n

Vegan Restaurants in St Ives<\/h2>\n

Blas Burgerworks<\/a><\/h3>\n

On the harbour front, opposite the St Ives Arts Club is Blas Burgerworks, a burger restaurant, open in the summer from noon until 9.30pm. They do a great vegan tofu burger, made with tofu, ginger, coriander & chilli and served with tahini sauce, roast peppers & fresh salad sprouts. Vegan passion fruit sorbet is on offer for dessert and they stock soya milk for drinks.<\/p>\n

Delices Du Monde<\/a><\/h3>\n

Delices Du Monde is a sushi-style restaurant and takeaway based on Tragenna Place. \u00a0It offers a tempting selection of sushi, ramen and miso, with most of the menu easily converted to vegan or vegetarian. The sushi burrito is a favourite, as well as the sweet chili organic tofu that is often on the specials menu.<\/p>\n

The Bean Inn Vegetarian Restaurant<\/a><\/h3>\n

To escape the crowds of town for an evening meal, head up to The Bean Inn vegetarian caf\u00e9 & restaurant (as recommended in The Guardian, Channel 4 etc) at the peaceful Carbis Bay. This place has grown hugely in popularity since its creation in 2003, and the chef has appeared on television alongside fancy chef types. You can relax and enjoy a meal and the art on the walls in their intimate, candlelit restaurant, accompanied by a glass of organic or local wine or beer.<\/p>\n

Most of the menu is gluten free and vegan. I find the staff warm and welcoming and I can personally testify to how good the food is here. The clear highlight for me is the Dark chocolate & raspberry mud pie, a must for chocoholics.<\/p>\n

Wander down to one of the beaches after your meal for a peaceful end to the day watching one of Cornwall\u2019s beautiful sunsets.<\/p>\n

Hub St Ives<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Hub is a bustling, harbour-front restaurant serving American street food-style fare. There is a separate vegetarian and vegan section of the menu offering different burgers, including a sweetcorn fritter burger with vegan chipotle mayo and a tofu and jackfruit burger.<\/p>\n

Every year there are more and more vegan restaurants in Cornwall popping up!<\/strong><\/p>\n
