“A lovely, well-equipped cottage in a beautiful part of Cornwall.”

The nearby Rinsey beach is stunning and the cottage is perfectly placed to explore the Lizard Peninsula / West part of Cornwall. The cottage had everything we needed for a stay with 2 adults and 2 children, with lots of quality homely touches like stoneware mugs, neff appliances and cosy blankets/cushions. A lovely welcome treat and friendly hosts too, who called ahead of arrival to make sure we had all the information we needed. Thank you!

“We had such a fantastic week long stay at Driftwood Cottage, it really did feel very homely and comfortable.”

The location is perfect for exploring many parts of Cornwall, such a quiet lane and with a nice pub just a few minutes walk away, it was ideal. The welcome hamper was a really nice touch too. We hope to be back next year!

“This was our second stay at Driftwood cottage.”

“Driftwood Cottage is the perfect accommodation in Cornwall.”

Every detail has been thought about, from the amazingly comfortable beds, with beautiful bed linen, to the modern fitted kitchen filled with everything you could possibly need. Whilst close to the main Penzance/Helston road for convenience, it benefits from being down a quiet lane so is wonderfully peaceful. The location is perfect for visiting Lands End, the Lizard peninsula and beyond, yet it has wonderful beaches and access to coastal walks, almost on the doorstep. Comfy sofas, lovely art work, local information and quirky decor complete this fantastically clean cottage. It’s also staggering distance from the local village pub which has live music nights.

“From the second we walked through the door we felt at home and relaxed.”

The welcome pack of goodies, (tea, biscuits, wine milk in the fridge} plus some cooking necessities was great. The kitchen is the best equipped i have ever come across in a holiday let. Everything was in great order and superbly clean. Ashton is in a great place to visit so many of the Cornish sites. Overall we can't recommend Driftwood cottage highly enough. Mr and Mrs Dawes contacted us when the weather turned cooler to encourage us to use the heating. The cottage is therefore very cosy even in inclement times. The double bed is so comfortable wished we could take the matress home with us! Overall we can't recommend Driftwood Cottage highly enough.

“Not too great for older people due to location of bathroom over bath shower and over used couches.”

We welcome guests of all ages at Driftwood Cottage, many of whom leave positive feedback. The downstairs bathroom, with shower over the bath, is clearly described in our listing and has worked well for many of these guests who know exactly what to expect before they arrive. We're unsure about your comment 'overused couches.' Although upgraded fairly recently, the sofas may not offer the extra support or higher seats which are preferred by some people. Sorry you had difficulties with the key safe but it was fortunate that you quickly phoned us and we were able to resolve this issue within minutes. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. “Could do woth some simplified instructions for the cooker and the recycling!”

“This is a areally attractive property inside in particular - lovely seaside/beach themed inside and coordinating colours which I always like.”

The cottage is small but the kitchen and bathroom is a good size relatively speaking. The kitchen is brand new. The garden area is very small but very private and concealed from gardens on either side. Fortunately there was no noise or music etc to be annoying whilst sitting out. The beds are very comfortable and it was helpful to have a washbasin in the double room. Wifi reception reasonable, but a day or two when it was very poor, but I know that is not in the control of the owners of course. There were a few games and books - would have liked more books to browse but I know space was limited for such things. A couple of minor issues - it would be good to have another height warning as in the bathroom and kitchen, halfway up the stairs! Especially as not always fully with it on going down to the bathroom in the middle of the night! Also the key box is in such an awkward place in the porch - quite difficult to get at - dont know the reason for that. All in all, excellent though and was as described.

Thank you for your feedback. We were pleased you agree with other guests that Driftwood Cottage is very well equipped and perfectly situated to visit many of the South West's tourist destinations, including Lands End, St. Michael's Mount & St. Ives. The property is also very well positioned to explore many of the beautiful and less visited hidden gems which this unique part of the UK has to offer. As a 19th Century tin miner's cottage, much of the original flooring has been retained, such as the boards in the bedrooms, in order to add character. It is worth mentioning too, that the kitchen floor was replaced last year. We are unsure about your comments regarding the electrics which are tested regularly. Being solid granite, the cottage walls and the ceilings with exposed timbers result in cables being surface mounted in places. Sadly this is unavoidable. You comment that the cottage is 'not usable for large people'. As clearly noted on the website, in two places there are lower door heights which may be an issue for tall people. Signs in the cottage alert people to this. The property was a tin miner's cottage and by its very nature is modest in size. Driftwood Cottage reflects its interesting origins which many guests of all sizes have found to be part of its charm. We hope this is helpful. Property Owner

Perfect for our few days away. We cooked a few meals whilst there and it was nice to have a really decent cooker /hob and all the utensils you could need . The location was perfect for us and the owner had left loads of information on walks in the area which was really helpful.

“We loved our weeks stay Driftwood Cottage, its a lovely light airy but yet cosy place.”

The cottage is small but for a holiday let its perfect and has everything you need, its clean and decorated to a lovely standard. The beds are comfortable and come with lovely duvets, although quite heavy for the summer months and there is plenty of storage space for clothes etc. We were welcomed with a bottle of Rose, some biscuits, tea and fresh milk in the fridge which was very much needed after our 6 hour drive from Sussex. My husband even made friends with the neighbours who kept giving us fresh cucumbers from his garden which tasted delicious. The parking also helped as we have a WV T5 and to have a space which was not only big enough but right out side the house always helps with tired children and shopping bags! The garden has a small area you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine or your morning coffee in the sun, my own quibble is the plants/bushes could do with a cut back so the lawn is more accessible for the children to play but this would not stop me returning. We look forward to returning one day

There was a nice little welcome pack, tea,milk, biscuits.etc. If I had to say a negative,it would be we couldn't find the chairs for the garden set. but that is really the only thing. Ideal for exploring the south west, I would recommend a visit to Porthleven Harbour, Cape Cornwall and Kynance cove,and many more

Good location to explore the surrounding areas including harbours, beaches and coastal walks The cottage was well kitted out to prepare meals. Enjoyed the wood burner in the lounge albeit a little temperamental. Would be ideal to have a little more wood supplied especially as we arrived for Christmas week and a lot of local places closed on bank holidays but didn't spoil our stay Parking outside the cottage Pub within a few minutes walk from the cottage

The property

Characterful tin miner’s cottage close to Porthleven and some beautiful beaches.

Set in the peaceful village of Ashton which lies just over a mile from the coastal path and picturesque sandy cove at Rinsey, where beach goers and surfers follow the winding footpath down towards the hidden sands and rock pools below the old mine stack that pin points this lovely piece of coastline. There is a family run pub within a short 2 minute stroll whilst Porthleven is just 3 miles from Driftwood Cottage, with its array of restaurants, cafes, pubs and gift shops.

Walkers will delight in the stunning views from the coastal footpath leading to the nearby Loe Bar and beyond, and for those keen to catch their own supper, fishing trips leave from the harbour throughout the summer season.

Famous St Michael's Mount at Marazion and the ancient market town at Helston are a ten minute drive in opposite directions, whilst St Ives, Falmouth and Penzance can be reached within a 30 minute drive. A charming gated garden leads into this charismatic cottage that was once a traditional miner's cottage dating as far back as the 1800s.

Carefully restored with exposed granite walls and beamed ceilings, the rooms are full of character.

A wood burning stove creates a cosy atmosphere in the comfortable sitting room.

The well presented dining room has an open aspect into the well equipped kitchen where a door leads outside.

Stairs lead up to two very attractive bedrooms decorated to a high standard with the use of pastel shades and soft furnishings whilst the twin room has distant views of the sea.

Enclosed outdoor areas with patio furniture and BBQ.

Off road parking available to the front of the property.

HELSTON

Porthleven 3 miles; Falmouth 12 miles; Penzance 14 miles.

Helston lies at the western gateway to the Lizard Peninsula, a large area of downland fringed by a beautiful and spectacular coastline. Helston is a pleasant busy market town famous for it's Flora Day Festival and the many stories and legends about the "Furry Dance" are told in the fascinating Helston Folk Museum. By car reach numerous outstanding beaches, including Porthleven Beach, Praa Sands Beach, and Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach, with Loe Bar offering a dog-friendly landscape, along with the chance to join the stunning Cornish coastal path.
