“The only minor things we could fault was the very low and soft sofa.”

Fine for lounging on, but bit of a battle to get out of!. A reminder about the restricted headroom on the stairs would be good, I only bumped by head one. ...

Fine for lounging on, but bit of a battle to get out of!. A reminder about the restricted headroom on the stairs would be good, I only bumped by head one. Lostwithiel is a hidden gem, without touring around too far. We travelled by train to reach the cottage and for any trips out. For reaching places off the railway, the Cornwall Transport web site is good and bus fares are cheap (maximum £5 return) compared to most operators. One warning outside Sykes Cottages control is that the level crossing is lowered for about 5 minutes before any train call or passes which needs to be remembered for catching trains towards Plymouth.

Thank you for your feedback. We find there to be nothing wrong with the sofa, it is brand new and do not find it to be too low at all. We are sorry it did not suit your needs, but trust you found the rest of the cottage to be fault-free. Property Owner

The property

Stylish and beautifully presented cottage Kerensa Cottage, is just a stones throw from the vibrant town centre of Lostwithiel.

Spacious and welcoming, the interior is a perfect blend of contemporary meets original characterful charm.

The sitting room is the perfect spot to relax with your loved ones on the comfy sofa and watch a movie, especially during the cooler months when the wood burner is roaring and creates a cosy den.

You can gather in the separate dining room for a delicious feast or get creative in the kitchen where you'll find everything you could wish for to create hearty meals.

On the first floor are three cool and tranquil bedrooms, a double with an ensuite, and a twin and bunk rooms both served by a pristine bathroom.

The attractive courtyard garden is small but perfectly formed; dine around the garden table with parasol and enjoy a bbq on those warm summer evenings or take coffee in the morning before heading out for the day.

Lostwithiel, a small town at the head of the estuary of River Fowey makes a fabulous base for exploring central Cornwall, with both coasts, countryside and moors within easy reach.

You can leave the car at home and arrive by train, to simply enjoy the town and the river nearby.

You can picnic beside Lostwithiel Bridge and children will love the play area too.

Visit Restormel Castle, Boconnoc deer park or the pretty tidal creek village of Lerryn.

The impressive biodomes of the famous Eden Project are within a short drive, and Fowey with harbour and picturesque waterscapes is just over 7 miles away – hire a boat or eat in one of the waterside eateries.

Charismatic Charlestown with Tall Ships and Poldark fame has galleries and gift shops for browsing.

After fun in the sea and surfing the white water at Newquay, we guarantee family, friends and couples will have a wonderful holiday at Kerensa Cottage.

About the location

LOSTWITHIEL

Bodmin 5.5 miles; Fowey 7 miles.

A delightfully peaceful country town, nestling in the Fowey river valley amid the woods and fields that characterise the area. Renowned as a centre for the antiques trade, there are several shops and dealers in the town, as well as a fine collection of country pubs, restaurants and a thriving farmer’s market. Lanhydrock House (NT) and gardens is just 3 miles away, while the fabulous Boconnoc House, Eden Project, shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and Padstow, with the famous Rick Stein restaurants, are all within easy driving distance. The tumbling Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches and dramatic coastline of the north coast, including at the renowned Newquay, make for great days out and there is also chance to enjoy river canoeing, biking, hiking and leisurely walks in this lovely area. The friendly locals also have ongoing activities, such as the raft race, the famous tug of war, Carnival week and seagull outboard motor races. The river Fowey runs from the town on its 8 mile journey through the fields and wooded valleys to the gentler southern coast, a natural paradise for those who love the sea. Centrally placed, with much to do and see in the immediate area, Lostwithiel is the perfect choice for those seeking a break away from the hectic pace of the tourist resorts.
