However, the accommodation is rather mis-represented by the pictures, which are obviously some years old. The accommodation is in desperate need of refurbishment. The furniture is tired and needs replacing. The cleanliness leaves something to be desired, with thick cobwebs behind the settee in one of the rooms. We don't expect old buildings like this to be spotless, but it would be nice to know that the furniture had been pulled out and cleaned behind. The kitchen and bathroom were clean, and had obviously been cleaned but, as well as the cobwebs behind furniture, a quick run of the finger over the tops of the pictures showed that these had not been cleaned in a very long time. The central heating system is probably in need of a clean out, because the downstairs’ radiators managed to get only tepid, whereas some of the upstairs radiators managed to get quite warm (but not all of them); changing the thermostat had had no effect. It was also annoying that the water heating and the central heating on/off times are set to come on and go off at ‘appropriate’ times. Who decided what appropriate is, or how this was determined, is not known, but is a real annoyance and is not an accurate statement. The heating and hot water controls need to be controllable by the people staying in the house, not by the owner. Overall, the stay was acceptable, but if I had paid the high-season rate I would have been very disappointed.

I am sorry the property was not as clean as it should have been, if you had informed us at the time the cleaner would have returned to address any issues. It had a deep clean at the end of lockdown 1 in readiness for guests and has a full clean between bookings, but I have passed your comments to the housekeeper. We believe the furniture to be in keeping with the style of the farmhouse and as shown in the advertising but understand this is a personal choice. On checking the heating, the radiators had been turned to low by previous guests but can be individually set for preference, and the thermostat by the stairway cupboard adjusts the temperature for the house. To be sure there is no fault, we have arranged for an engineer to take a look at the system and advise if any improvements can be made.
