“The Mowie Barn is a comfortable conversion and suits up to two adults.”
The cottage appeared clean and looked tidy with all the amenities. The barn is sited on the edge of a small Village and accessible to the South West of Cornwall and it's fabulous scenery.
Upon arrival we were shown around by the Owner and had the house rules explained to us. When shown the bathroom our attention was directed to the shower and we were told specifically not to touch the shower head or fiddle with the dial. It was a fixed head shower and we were told that other guest had tried to adjust it. We were told not to try to make it hotter or cooler than the handle would allow which automatically stopped thus preventing any extreme temperatures.
When we went to turn the shower for the first time on we noticed water was not flowing as it should. Blocked waterjets were diverting the water and only a very few were allowing water through. Using the cloth provided we wiped the shower head and thick black mould came away. Once this was removed the shower head jets allowed water to come through. A suggestion on cleaning fixed shower heads; fill a plastic bag full of white vinegar and tie to the head overnight then run very hot water through to dislodge any matter inside the head.
The oven also looked like it could do with a deep clean and bedroom pillows should really be replaced as they offered no support.
We felt that the Owner did not accommodate our Cockerpoo dog. We were told that our pet was free to roam around the grounds (which included going onto the Owner's property and attached cottage as these entrances were not gated).
We are very responsible dog owners and always clear up after our dog has done his business however on two occasions we were reminded rather abruptly that the poo should be cleared up immediately. The first time was by a blunt written note and the 2nd when our door was knocked in the morning not long after we had woken up.
It is suggested that either the other property entrances are gated off so guests dogs cannot roam freely or it is made clear that dogs can only use the premises on a lead.
It was very disappointing to be approached in such a brusque manner as we were made to feel like we had committed some offence. This took the edge off of a restful holiday.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you experienced an issue with the shower, if you had let us know, we would have resolved this for you straight away. Similarly we could have re-cleaned the oven, although the property is cleaned thoroughly at every changeover and we have never previously received a complaint. We do advise our guests that dogs must be supervised at all times when in the grounds, if this is done, there is no need for the dog to be on a lead or for other areas to be gated off. When you arrived, we pointed out the areas available to your dog, bearing in mind that we have another holiday cottage next to the barn as well as our own garden. As a courtesy to our guests in the other property, we do ask that dog mess is cleaned up without delay, particularly if it is in their garden or outside their property. On this occasion, as we had received complaints about dog mess from our other guests, we were obliged to follow this up. Property Owner
