The property

So much more than your ordinary holiday home, Fleur's Cottage is an elegant and whimsical Grade II listed 18th century retreat, combining luxury and tranquility in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hidden away in a magical private setting in the historic mining village of Gunnislake in the heart of the Tamar Valley, it is incredibly well placed to explore both Cornwall and Devon, from sandy shores and coastal walks to the quaintest villages and rugged moorland. This romantic boutique cottage stands peacefully alone, well screened by an established and enclosed English garden with birdsong in the air and startlingly beautiful views towards the tall woodland slopes of Chimney Rock. First impressions say it all, this is a divine place for city escapees to relax and unwind. Designed for outdoor living and summer barbecues, the garden is equipped with a summerhouse, a sheltered area for alfresco meals and sun loungers for idle time.

Handsomely enriched with character and charm, a warming wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace, French oak flooring, high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, thick lime-washed walls and latched doors combine with a rambling interior and modern amenities including free WiFi, a cinema room with a 55" Smart 3D TV and two pristine bathrooms. You can pick your own herbs, greens and fruit from the garden, prepare an AGA-cooked feast in the well-equipped kitchen and then retire to the sitting room, load up the wood burner and sink into comfy sofas or linger in the dining room set beneath skylights with French doors which pull in garden views. Fitting for couples and families is the collection of three sumptuous bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom has a strong romantic presence with a deep mattress adorned with luxurious bed linens and twin aspect windows with dreamy valley views.

When you are ready to explore the surrounding area, pull on your hiking boots and enjoy riverside and woodland walks from the front door. A stop for lunch at the dog-friendly Rising Sun Inn, which has regular live music, is highly recommended as is a visit to Cotehele, a Medieval house and garden estate on the River Tamar. Within easy reach is the market town of Tavistock, maritime city of Plymouth, Dartmoor National Park and three miles of stunning beach at Whitsand Bay. This is a dream venue for a memorable holiday experience.
