“A lovely cottage in a tucked-away position with sea views, yet with plenty of amenities just a short drive away.”

One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in (we have stayed in a lot), and the owner kindly provided a welcome Cornish tea. Not sure if the bottle of wine in the fridge was also a gift from the owner or whether it was left behind by a previous occupant, but we certainly enjoyed it! The only slight inconvenience was the cutlery, crockery and glassware needing to be stored away from the kitchen due to lack of space, so you have to keep toing and froing between the kitchen and living area when preparing meals and drinks. If the owner really doesn't want dogs upstairs it might be worth considering providing a stair gate. Also on the subject of dogs: DO NOT bother attempting to take your dog to Pentewan Sands unless you are visiting between 1st November - 28th February. The ticket machine in the car park in the village will happily take lots of money off you for parking, only for you to walk to the beach to find very hostile signage banning your dog beyond that point. Polkerris also does not welcome dogs during the day, but there was somewhere where we could sit in our beach chairs at the top of the beach with our dog and take it in turns to go on the beach while the other one stayed with her. Overall though, we had a particularly good holiday, with wonderful weather after some brief rain at the start. I would certainly recommend Driftwood Cottage as a lovely clean and comfortable place to stay and from which to explore the St Austell Bay area.

Guests here will find it convenient for exploring the scenic coastal footpath, spending lazy days on the beach or golfing at Porthpean's scenic 18 hole course without relying on a car.

Within easy driving distance are the charming fishing village of Mevagissey and the historic harbour town of Charlestown, home to a magnificent fleet of square riggers, or tall ships as they are better known.

The chic waterside town of Fowey is approximately nine miles from Porthpean and a day in the town is a must.

With a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs as well as many galleries and boutique shops in which to browse, there is something for everyone.

The awe inspiring gardens at the Eden Project and The Lost Garden of Heligan are nearby and there is a supermarket within a 5 minute drive. Driftwood Cottage is ideally suited to couples and small families and the ground floor accommodation comprises a sitting/dining room with wood burning stove and sea views to the front whilst at the rear is a small but well equipped kitchen, it should be noted that the access height to the kitchen, under the beam is 170 cm.

On the first floor are a double and single bedroom, both of which have fine sea views which can be enjoyed over a cup of tea in bed.

A pull out bed beneath the single bed can accommodate a child or when presented as a single room there is space for a cot.

Set back from the lane which runs down to the sea, there is space to sit in front of the cottage and watch the hypnotic roll of the ocean.
