“Generally a good cottage but it was missing a few things we would have expected such as a tea pot, milk jug and trays.”

The fridge is far too small. It was inadequate for two people let alone the full occupancy of five people. Also it was not cold enough to keep food fresh. As cottage owners ourselves we have found that most guests eat out rather than cook and the lack of fridge capacity may not be an issue where this is the case. Parking was not an issue. We could park outside the cottage with hazard lights on to unload on arrival and pack up on departure. No problem at all parking by the hedge a little further ...

As cottage owners ourselves we have found that most guests eat out rather than cook and the lack of fridge capacity may not be an issue where this is the case. Parking was not an issue. We could park outside the cottage with hazard lights on to unload on arrival and pack up on departure. No problem at all parking by the hedge a little further away from the centre of the village, ie to the south of the cottage. We received a notification from Sykes before our departure saying that the parking arrangements had changed from the details provided when we booked. This was not the case since the parking arrangement was correctly described at the time of booking. The stairs to the first floor are steep but you soon get used to them. They may not be suitable for people with impaired mobility.

Thank you for leaving a review and I hope you had a lovely holiday. I have taken your advice and we have now supplied a tea pot and milk jug. There are several trays in the property, which while displayed decoratively, are there for you to use. I am sorry you felt the fridge was too small. While obviously not large, it is standard for small holiday cottages and we have always managed quite well. As we always want to be able to support local Cornish businesses we tend to do a practical supermarket shop at the beginning but stock up on fresh produce locally every 3 days. That way everyone wins and the fridge doesn't need to be crammed full which will affect its effectiveness. Property Owner

The property

Holly Cottage is a traditional Cornish cottage located in the little hamlet of Newtown St. Martin in the Cornish countryside.

The cottage, which has exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings, and a wood burning stove, is 250 years old and while it has been tastefully modernised and upgraded, it retains many beautiful traditional features.

Bring your friends and family to this rustic retreat and step inside to see the open-plan living room with a contemporary cooking area that includes everything you need, including an electric oven, hob, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher.

Enjoy mealtimes together at the dining table, or take the conversation outside and enjoy both morning and evening sun in the garden dining area and look out over the fields.

As the evening progresses, retire to the living area, to enjoy your favourite digital TV channels or enjoy the DVDs, games and books on offer in the cottage.

After a day of exploring the surrounding countryside, go to the tiled bathroom for a soak in the tub or a quick rinse in the overhead shower.

There are three bedrooms to select from: a double and single room with built-in wardrobes, as well as a twin room with bedside table, and under bed storage drawers.

When you run out of supplies, you can head to Mawgan Village shop, just 3 miles away, which boasts local delicacies, fresh bread, a rather impressive wine choice as well as a great frozen curry selection.

A 5 minute drive to Helford is highly recommended for its stunning views and sunset watching from The Shipwrights Arms.

The beautiful unspoilt beaches of Gunwhalloe and Church Cove are 10 minutes drive away and there are often great waves for body boarding at Poldhu Beach, 15 minutes away.

Consider Holly Cottage if you're looking for a charming cottage as the base for your next getaway to Cornwall.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

HELFORD

Helston 10 miles; Lizard 11 miles; Redruth 17 miles; Falmouth 18 miles.

The village of Manaccan on the South Helford is small and friendly, with an excellent restaurant, friendly village inn and a beautiful 12th century church. The South Helford is arguably one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Cornwall. With meandering country roads, picturesque creeks, tidal inlets and pretty waterside villages, the area can be summed up in three words: tranquil, charming and timeless. The perfect spot for enjoying outdoor living, the South Helford’s sheltered coves were made for messing around on the water and strolling leisurely along the banks. Leave your ‘phone behind and embrace the simple pleasures - while away time paddling in the shallows, explore hidden coves with a hire boat from St Anthony, and stroll through woodland to enjoy a picnic on the beach.
