    - thank you Honicombe and thank you Sykes. However I have to mention my experiences with Sykes Cottages Customer Services BEFORE the holiday... We received no email confirmation after making payment and we were getting very worried when, with only 1 week to go before the holiday was due to take place, we still had not received any emails from you whatsoever. To start with I looked online and tried to get the phone number for the place we were staying at (Honicombe Manor Holiday Village) - you cannot find that ANYWHERE online and I am an experienced internet surfer! So my only option was to phone Sykes HQ in Chester (I believe?). Now, I know we are in unprecedented times at the moment, but I have phoned MANY organisations since Lockdown began and, although they all give the same pre-recored warning before the call is connected about having to expect an extra long wait in getting answered on the phone - all the other calls I've made to other organisations have been answered normally within 3 - 10 minutes (and 10 minutes really has been the absolute max! - probably less than that to be honest). But my first call to Sykes was 15mins just to get through to the receptionist - a young male by the sounds of it and, I'm sure it wasn't my phoneline but there was a very young baby crying loudly in the background all the way through the call! He very quickly put me through to Customer Services... Oh my God, 30 MINUTES WAIT and still no answer! Had to put the phone down as I was on my mobile and my network monthly usage was running out! So, next day, this time at a much earlier time, I rang Sykes HQ, Chester once more - this time I rang on my landline and I was determined to hang on til answered no matter what, but I had no choice anyway as like I said earlier in this message, I couldn't find Honicombe Manor Park's direct phoneline anyway! This time, I was answered by a different receptionist - another young male, this time no baby crying in the background, yippee!! Put through again very quickly to the dreaded Customer Services line... ANOTHER 30MIN+ wait!! I must say however that when I finally got through I found the young lady to be ever so polite and clear and a pleasure to talk to - and everything was resolved. It seems I entered my email address in wrongly when booking online which I was surprised about as there is always 2 separate boxes when entering in your email address for such purchases, the 2nd box's purpose is to ensure you don't possibly mistype it twice. I have never made this mistake before but I guess this time I did (it's possible, though I'm not sure, that there was only 1 box rather than the 2 boxes and I mistyped it on my one and only chance to get it right, can't say for sure but it rings a bell). Total call length - over an HOUR, grand total call length of both phone calls to Sykes HQ - nearly 2 HOURS for 2 PHONE CALLS! Never experienced that before with any other company and I won\t except Lockdown as an excuse because of reasons stated twice above. So, to summarise, I would most certainly return to the lovely Honicombe Manor Park again and I would gladly use Sykes Cottages again to book the holiday - but I pray that they MASSIVELY improve their helplines (duration I mean, the politeness and helpfulness is just fine) otherwise, I will not be booking through them again - but I guess I wouldn't know til I needed to call them again!!

About the location

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
