    “Apartment unclean.”

Out of date bread left in bread bin (sell by date 13th May) on our first day of the 19th May. Apartment not fully cleaned. Bird droppings on window, uncleaned bath and significant amount of cobwebs and dirt found on the 1st floor balcony. Dining chairs in the lodge were in an appalling state (photos sent to reception). They were supposed to be replaced but this did not happen. Rusty steel shelving in the bathroom, smell of damp in the shower room and rust on metal areas of the shower room. Large blue bag containg old bedding and towels left in hallway. Broken light fitting in the living area. Only bread left in the welcome pack, no milk or any other items. Lack of milk is minor but when I mentioned this to management a carton was put in the fridge when I went to the gym. Light fitting was also fixed at this time. No permission was given by me for anyone to enter the property when I was out. I was not happy this happened. Cleaning was not put right until my second day there. TV not working. Put right very quickly by maintenance who found out it was registered to the wrong lodge. Vouchers given because of the troubles listed above but when attempting to use for lunch in the on site restaurant on Thursday 22nd they were refused. I had to contact reception (Becky) to get them honoured. Member of staff on duty in the restaurant was not happy I went above them so I got extremely poor service (serving others before me, not cleaning dishes away, not returning to the table to ask if anything else was wanted or present the bill). Restaurant was not that busy (one other table eating) and the staff member went to that table three times to ask if anything was needed and not once to my table. When I complained about the service I was told he was busy and by himself. I mentioned about him serving others who came after me first and then not coming to my table. CCTV review would confirm all of this. I would not recommend the restaurant because of this behaviour and the menu needs updating as it is very limited especially if you do not want chips. The gym, sauna, pool and jacuzzi were very good. The maintenance person, Chris, was very good. Chris knew what he was doing and was very friendly and engaged well. Reception staff Becky and Emma were also very good and listened and acted on the complaints. I felt the need to complain about the cleaning issues as they should have cleaned better. The resort itself is very peaceful, calm, well positioned and the facilities available were very good. The lodge is a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The cleaning, chairs and rusty metalwork let it down and this is the reason I would recommend.

About the location

PORTREATH

Truro 14 miles; St Ives 15 miles.

With its sheltered harbour, beautiful Portreath was, in the 1800s, a hive of activity and industry as a major tin-exporting port. Today, the village attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 14 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
