“Service from Sykes excellent as normal.”

We have stayed in 9 different cottages in Kingsand and Cawsand, Samphire was by far not the cleanest. Facillities were sparse. Décor confusing, a collection of memoribillia. We had a problem with shower and toilet. Handy man sorted these for us. House would be much more usable as an upside down house, sea view from upstairs. Cottage could really do with a lick of paint and a good clean. Asked to strip the bed before we left which we did only to find pillows and quilt covered in stains. We paid good money for this cottage and expected higher standards.

Samphire is the owners treasured home and is accurately photographed and described on the website. If the style was not to a persons' taste, a more neutral property would be available. The property has regularly received good cleanliness ratings, so we are sorry if our service let you down in any way on this occasion. Owner relations

The property

"Samphire", the perfect seaside cottage.

Imagine fishing boats bobbing by, ice cream coloured cottages and you have imagined this vintage-styled cottage and the unspoilt villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. "Samphire" is nestled right in the middle of the two villages, with far reaching views across the bay, ideal for those who love to be close to the sea.

Decorated with the seaside in mind, there are lots of quirky collectables. The open plan living accommodation on the ground floor, is warmed by the glow of a wood burning stove. To the rear is a galley style kitchen. On the first floor is a spacious twin bedroom enjoying fine sea views, as well as a shower room and loo.

Up some steps will bring you to a quiet single bedroom, so this property can offer flexible sleeping arrangements for four guests or a family with 3 children. On the second floor is the wonderfully light and bright master bedroom with glorious dual aspect sea views - even a bath tub with a view! There is a also a separate loo on this level. There is a small fisherman's back yard, used for storage and recycling, through which the neighbour can access their property. This area is called The Forgotten Corner, but it is more like a hidden gem.

The village itself is in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, which means it is a internationally protected landscape.

From three walkable beaches, with Kayaks for hire, Cornish pasties to clotted cream teas and even it's own rural post office, the villages have it all in (buckets) and spades! The coastal path runs through the village taking you to secret coves and stunning scenery, including the 800 acre Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. Whitsand Bay is just a 10 minute drive, with its dramatic scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches. There is a ferry service to Plymouth: "The Red Pig", in the summer from Cawsand Beach to Plymouth Hoe, and throughout the year , from Cremyll.

Here you can find the National Marine Aquarium, Royal William Yard and Mitch Tonks' RockFish Plymouth.

About the location

Plymouth 24 miles.

The twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, with narrow streets winding between pastel-coloured cottages, lie on the Rame Peninsula just 5 miles from Plymouth, but because the high ground of Mount Edgcumbe lies between, you are not aware of being near a large city. Instead, you can relax in the peace and quiet of village life, and look out over Plymouth Sound which offers calm waters ideal for watersports, fishing and bathing. Take a walk south along the coastal path to Penlee Point for the glorious views of Rame Head, towering above the sea, or, a walk north along the coast will take you to Mount Edgcumbe Park with fabulous views of Plymouth Sound. From Cawsand, take a ferry trip to Plymouth and visit the Aquarium, the historic Barbican or enjoy a spot of retail therapy. Just a mile west of Kingsand lies Whitsand Bay, with 4 miles of sandy beach and dramatic cliffs. You really are spoilt for choice in this ‘secret hideaway’.

Note: Although there are enough beds to accommodate 5, this is for flexibility of sleeping only. The sleeping capacity at the cottage is 4 people.
