“Disappointed with the cleanliness - on the first day we found that the top few plates and dishes were clean but the ones underneath were absolutely disgusting - then while looking for a jug we pulled out a pan covered in dried food.”

Not at all what you expect from a holiday cottage.We have stayed at that site many times but won't be at that one again.We did report it to the site office

“Cottage needs a freshening up.”

Paint work dirty and peeling especially in the bathroom. This would make a great difference as the cottage was generally comfortable and first impressions are important.

“Good location base for travelling further afield in Cornwall.”

Nice cottage, however upstairs bathroom was not clean enough with a few human hairs on the tiled wall and in and around the bath. Also spiderwebs under the sink, clearly visible. Everywhere else was clean, including bed sheets and towels. Beds were lumpy and could feel springs through the mattress, which made sleeping uncomfortable.

“I failed to notice that the property didn't have an Internet connection when I made the booking.”

As a BT customer I could access a router in another property but only when outside on the patio. There is no mobile access for O2 from the property. Otherwise, perfect!

“Property well equipped except for wi fi.”

It needs redecorating throughout. Cleaning not really up to standard.Cobwebs under the basins in bathroom and downstairs toilet. Bathroom windows are really dirty at bottom of windows similarly shower screen on hinged end.There are also several stains on bedroom carpets.

“We have already been in contact with you about the unsatisfactory issues.”

We really were expecting everything to be spotless, particularly with the current Covid-19 situation. As mentioned, we are both key workers, going into our workplaces through the whole lockdown and we were really looking forward to our first break since Christmas. It was very disappointing.

The owner and the housekeeper are very sorry the property was not up to your expectation but they confirmed if you reported the issue at the moment of the arrival they would have acted immediately. Unfortunately the issue hasn't been reported until the day before departure and the housekeeper could not remedy in time. “We have enjoyed a fabulous week at Oak Tree Cottage.”

The cottage was clean and spotless on arrival and very well presented. Pendra Loweth is the perfect location to explore this lovely part of Cornwall and has excellent local beaches - Maenporth beach is just under a 20 minute walk from the cottage. I would definitely recommend staying here.

“We’ve stayed at other cottages on pendre loweth previously and this was our most disappointing.”

Firstly the cottage wasn’t even cleaned and ready for the specified time. The pictures of oak tree cottage make it look far more inviting. Is this standard procedure to make cottages look more appealing??? The bedrooms look homely on the pictures with cushions and throws which were obviously just used for the photographs as they are no where to be seen. There was a lack of general amenities for example no wardrobes, no hairdryer, no scissors, no bulbs in some of the lamps and a leaking dishwasher to name but a few. You shouldn’t be expected to have to go and purchase items which I had to do. There was only enough hot water for one person to have a shower each day which is no good for a family of four with young children. There was also no cold running water from the bathroom sink. Comments from previous guests in the guest book had also commented on these issues but nothing has been done. Paying four times my monthly mortgage for two weeks in this cottage was very disappointing and I wouldn’t stay there again.

“We arrived at the house at 5 pm, after driving all day, to find that it had not been touched since the previous clients left.”

No phone signal or WiFi so went to reception which was closed. But got signal there so called Sykes and described the state of the house. The chap we spoke to was very apologetic but didn't seem surprised, promised to get someone to sort us out in 2 hours. We waited at the house because we were too tired and disappointed to go out again. 2 hours later a cleaner arrived whilst we were having dinner. He was also very apologetic, said they were having problems with cleaners not turning up to work. He only had time to quickly change the bed linen and clean the bathroom because he had other properties to do after ours. He promised to return next day to vacuum and do the kitchen. It was obvious that the housekeeping has been done to the bare minimum for a long time. The walls and paintwork are scuffed, there was a thick layer of dust on the tops of the curtains, the plastic fake-leather sofas are very worn and the place just felt grubby. The cooker was difficult to use because some of the numbers of the control dials have worn off. There were some plus points - the bed linen was good quality and the beds reasonably comfortable, the soft furnishings were attractive and the shower was good (after we had worked out how the hot water system worked). The gardens are well maintained and the "complex" attractive, although much larger than we had expected. We would hesitate to book with Sykes again because, although the customer service is good, we do not trust the grading system of ticks. We wonder how long it has been since this house has been inspected? Maybe it was worth 4 ticks once upon a time but surely no longer?

There is allocated parking for one car plus visitor parking. Enjoying the south west aspect of the village, Oak Tree Cottage benefits from easy access to the coastal footpaths and Maenporth Cove.

Walking to the beach from your cottage will take approximately fifteen minutes, making it easy to leave the car behind for the day.

Guests wanting to enjoy a game of tennis are just a stone's throw away from the all weather courts whilst those wanting to relax will appreciate the private patio.

Just a few minutes stroll to the central amenities, those who have not ventured to the beach may enjoy a dip in the Splash Pool or a work out in the Gym.

Perhaps the best work out to be had is a circular walk from the cottage, down to Maenporth cove, up across the spectacular coastal footpath toward Swanpool and then back up through the pretty lanes to the village; roughly five miles but well worth the effort for those wanting to appreciate all that this special location has to offer. North Helford and Falmouth are perhaps the quintessential Cornish visitor destinations; a mix of beach, creek and woodland serve some of our most interesting and historic villages and towns.

Falmouth itself is home to the National Maritime Museum, visitors will enjoy an amble through the narrow streets and possibly a boat trip across the River Fal or up the river towards Truro.

The town's old harbour-side pubs, excellent shopping, art gallery and stunning National Maritime Museum simply complete the picture. Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII, is Falmouth's most popular attraction, sited on its own peninsula with superb panoramic sea views. Across from Falmouth harbour is the beautiful town of St Mawes, surrounded by the rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush green countryside of the Roseland Peninsula. Go there by car (15 miles) or take the passenger ferry from Falmouth (15 minutes). For nature lovers there is the Swanpool Nature Reserve, a lagoon and site of special scientific interest teeming with a variety of wildlife. There is also a golf course.
