Ian “Lovely stay again this really is my wife's happy place after having a life changing stroke 8 years ago this is a perfect little cottage for her,the owners are very helpful and always leave a few items to welcome you this time the weather wasn't great but we made the most of what we did get .”
Many thanks Ian and Karen Knaresborough North Yorkshire.

We really loved the property everything we wanted , the only downside was we have a old dog and he struggles with hills which was a shame
- Graham, September 2024 -
Cath “The only problem we had was the bed we found it so uncomfortable, we would of given this property full marks had it not been for the bed.”
The goodies left by Colin and Jill was an added bonus, place was lovely and clean, location suited us. We would of loved to come back next year but the bed is stopping us.
- Cath, August 2024We are sorry you found the bed uncomfortable, we wihed you had mentioned this to us during you 2 week stay. The mattress was mentioned earlier in the year when the guest enjoyed the firm mattress and were going to change their mattress when they got home. If you had mentioned the problem to us we could have provided a mattress topper. As with all feedback we will examine the comments and if needed replace items that need changing. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the positive feedback. Property Owner

Robert “Very comfortable and clean accommodation, well equipped, Unfortunately it is situated at the top of a very steep hill.”
The description is very misleading. It is more like a mile and is very, very very steep. There is an easier alternative route Which is about twice as far. We would not have booked if we -had known, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
- Robert, June 2024Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the steepness of hills that surround mevagissey. Thank you for your positive comments in your feedback. Property Owner

Irene “This property needs to be listed as on a 1/4 hill, as with my husband's bad back, and my old dog, not able to walk very far.”
If we had been made aware of this, we wouldn't have rented this property.
- Irene, June 2024 -
Sarah “A little gem!”
Perfect for two, spotlessly clean and we found everything we could want for a very comfortable stay. The owners were near by and very helpful and welcoming. There is a steep hill down to the village centre, however parking in the Willow car park was both convenient and not unreasonably priced for the day. £7 till midnight, so great if one wants to junp on the ferry to Fowey for the day.
- Sarah, May 2024 -
Ray “This is a beautiful, very clean little bungalow with everything you need for a lovely stay in Mevagissey.”
The bed was perhaps a little bit too firm for us, but of course this is a personal preference. An excellent choice and highly recommended. Very pleasant owners who live next door.
- Ray, April 2024 -
Ian “Great cottage we've stayed here many times before and will be booking again very soon it has become our happy place after my wife having a life changing stroke 7 years ago she feels safe here and knows where every think is .”
Many thanks Ian and karen Knaresborough North Yorkshire

D “Gem of a cottage.”
Lovely quiet location with easy access to Mevagissy and local places of interest. Spotlessly clean and very well maintained - a real home from home. Owners were very friendly and helpful.
- D, September 2023 -
Stan “We've just returned from a week at An Kres, the bungalow was exceptionally clean, very well furnished and had everything we could have needed, the gifts on arrival of Milk, Proseco and real short bread biscuits we a very pleasent surprise and greatly appreciated, we would thoroughly recommend An Kres as a place to stay to explore the surrounding area.”
We look forward to returning
- Stan, August 2023 -
Beverly “The property is ideal for the two of us all on the flat once you get up the slope from the road.”
The owners allowed us to use their steps up to the front door which was really helpful. It was well equipped in the kitchen and the shower was nice and spacious. The bed was firm and made us think we might need to change our mattress when we get home. The little garden was lovely and enclosed so our dog couldn’t escape. I forgot my usb plug so although it wasn’t ideal it might have been helpful to have a socket that had usb socket too. The area is very hilly and my husband had a full gym workout every morning walking the coastal footpath with the dog.

Eileen “This property is a real home from home.”
It has everything you might need for your stay and your comfort. The only thing it didn't have was a hair dryer, so take one with you. But the owners quickly supplied one after I mentioned I haven't bought mine. The white TV in the photos has been replaced with a larger black one. I had no problems with the signal as mentioned by another review. The bed and sofa are very comfy. I loved having the footstools to put my feet up at the end of a tiring day walking and the throw. The property is in a very quiet location, no noise at night (couldn't hear any Seagulls, unlike other properties I have stayed at in Cornwall). There is a heated towel rail in the bathroom for drying towels or an extendable airer in the garden. A tall unit in the bedroom doubles as a mirror if you turn it around - ingenious. Off road parking right outside property. I preferred to walk down to the harbour via the coast path, there are steps but it is not as steep as walking down/up the road and better views. Instructions of how to join it are in the property. Would recommend getting the ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey (£17 return 2023) instead of driving there. Lovely walk along the SWCP from Mevagissey to Gorran Haven and onto Dodman Point. If you carry onto Hemmick beach (this part is steep in places and very overgrown), you can take the direct route back to Gorran Haven via fields and a camp site, which takes half the time. Then get the bus back to Mevagissey. Very nice ice cream at Gorran Haven, which is very welcome after a long walk. Charlestown very charming place to visit, where they filmed some of Poldark. Another nice easy SWCP walk is Portscatho to St Mawes, good views across to Falmouth. Portscatho is a lovely stop for picnic lunch, there was also a restaurant there which looked inviting but I didn't use it.
- Eileen, June 2023 -
Alison “Lovely bungalow facilities very good.”
Bed was a little small and rather hard for our liking. Good centre to visit around Cornwall.
- Alison, May 2023 -
Louise “Lovely property with a gorgeous enclosed small garden at the back, perfect for our dog.”
The owner was very pleasant and happy to help with any issues. Property best suited for fairly active people though as it was at the top of a very very steep hill and the road up was very narrow with no path so difficult with a dog.
- Louise, April 2023 -
Kim “The provision of treats and wine were greatly appreciated.”
The accommodation provides a very comfortable environment with everything that makes it really feel like a home from home. The enclosed garden was excellent for our dog to safely explore. Parking space more than adequate for a large vehicle. A great location for exploring the area and would certainly recommend this property.
- Kim, March 2023Thanks for the feedback. Property Owner

Roger “I would have no hesitation in recommending AN KRES for a holiday.”
Everything worked fine and it was lovely and warm and clean.
- Roger, February 2023 -
Jill “A super little place to stay, the owners live next door and were very friendly.”
Mevagissy is a lovely village and we found its location ideal as a base to explore Cornwall.
- Jill, September 2022 -
Christopher “The accommodation is well situated above Mevagissey village, has all the fixtures & fittings than one would require for a week's holiday.”
The walk to and from the village centre is strenuous, but it is easy to drive down for an evening meal and there is plenty of parking space at that time of day. The parking place outside An Kres was very handy, even for our large vehicle. All in all a very pleasant stay.
- Christopher, June 2022 -
Karen “The cottage was just wonderful- would totally recommend- it had everything we needed.”
Perfect for our little dog too. Will certainly try to return in the future- thank you.
- Karen, June 2022 -
Gary “A lovely little property that was perfect for our holiday.”
It was clean and comfortable, well equipped, and in a very good location.
- Gary, June 2022 -
Linda “Ideal cottage for a couple.”
Cleanliness was definitely 10 out of 10. Kitchen had everything you could need, including washing machine. Much better equipped than a lot of places we have stayed. Location was ideal. Short walk down to the harbour, though a little longer coming back as quite a steep hill. Owners next door and were very helpful when we had a problem with the wifi and sorted it out for us. Would definitely recommend
- Linda, May 2022 -
Melanie “We had a lovely break and the property was superb.”
Yes the hill is a killer
- Melanie, May 2022 -
Samatee “Lovely homey holiday cottage with all mod cons and facilities needed.”
Appreciated the extra touches like biscuits and Prosecco, and your friendliness, advice and help.
- Samatee, April 2022 -

Paul “Lovely place to stay , Very clean and everything you needed for a relaxing holiday .”
Lovely and quiet too .
- Paul, July 2021 -
Mandy “The hill into/out of the village is very steep”
- Mandy, July 2021 -
Christine “The accommodation was very well thought out and surprisingly spacious given the overall size of the bungalow.”
It was spotlessly clean and provided all the equipment needed for a self-catering holiday. We really appreciated the outdoor space which gave options of sun or shade throughout the day. The owners were very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. All in all a most enjoyable holiday.
- Christine, June 2021 -

Lynn “A comfortable apartment set high on the hill in Mevagissey.”
Very comfortable furniture with sliding patio doors leading to a very pretty garden area with seating. The bedroom had plenty of storage area and an ingenious corner unit with shelves and drawers and when you spun it round revealed a full-length mirror! The kitchen, however, requires better quality equipment and also a trivet to put hot pans on, also the toaster and hob light weren’t working. The main thing which needs replacing is the outdated, small, portable TV - dreadful picture quality and poor sound. We were glad we had taken an iPad with us so at least we were able to watch news channels. This apartment could be first class if some issues were addressed such as a newer, larger TV and some attention to detail given within the kitchen area.
- Lynn, May 2021Thank you for providing feedback on your stay, we hope you had enjoyed your stay at An Kres. Thank you for making us aware of the light on the cooker extractor, we are sorry this could not be fixed during your stay as the part had to be ordered. We had offered to look at it at the time of your stay, but was advised that you was OK without. We had not been aware that the toaster was not working, as you had not mentioned this however it has now been rectified. We are sorry that you had not been happy with the TV, we had used this ourselves and found no problems with it. However following your feedback we will replace this, unfortunately due to the size of the room we cannot have a particularly large TV. Property Owner

Nigel “A larger screen TV would have been a bonus”
- Nigel, May 2021 -
Phil “All you need for 2 people and a dog in a neat little package.”
Everything worked perfectly and accommodation was well equipped and clean,
- Phil, May 2021 -
Ian “This accommodation is without doubt a wonderful place to stay.”
Inside, it is amazingly clean, well looked after and has all the appliances and amenities you could wish for. If you’re taking a pet (just as we took our dog) the outside back garden is perfect to allow outside access without worrying it will escape. Either way it is a compact area well tendered and lovely sun trap for wonderful Cornish weather. The parking spot is a massive bonus as you really don’t want to take your car into town, which is only a 5 minute walk. On top of all that Colin is a great host with lots of good ideas on how to enjoy yourself and make the most of what’s on the doorstep.
- Ian, April 2021 -

Such a lovely place owners live next door and see very helpful and left them a nce breakfast because we forgot to empty fridge
- Cherelynne, October 2020 -
Lisa “Clean and tidy on arrival, all the facilities you would need on a break away from home, there’s a full cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, all the utensils you would need, there’s a dishwasher and black bags and washing up liquid.”
If you want to wash while you are away there’s a washing machine. The single storey property has a good size shower. Bedroom has plenty of drawers and a large wardrobe. The lounge/ kitchen diner is a good size too, comfortable, the tv was a little small, but it did the job, and whilst relaxing not much tv was used. The garden was small, but pretty, the bonus is that we could take our beloved dog with us, this was very important to us. Parking to the property also. Would recommend this property as its not far from the harbour of Mevagissey and a lovely walk over the green, steps down to the shops. This property is also located in a very quiet cul-de-sac.
- Lisa, September 2020 -

Lovely cottage just right size for 2 garden is a little sun trap very quite street 3rd time we have stayed here and we will be booking again
- Ian, September 2020 -
Brian “The cottage was positioned well in a small cull-de-sac but be aware if you do not have a car the hill going in to Mevagissey is ok going down but you need to be fit to make your way back.”
An Cress the cottage was extremely warm and comfortable it far exceeded my expectations in every way overall we enjoyed our holiday to this area and will most certainly be back. The booking agent Sykes Holiday Cottages were reliable and very efficient I will certainly use them again.
- Brian, September 2020 -
Judith “A delightful cottage which was spotlessly clean and really well appointed.”
The facilities were of a high standard. The owners were welcoming as well Situated at the top of Mevagissey, it was easy to get out and explore all the surroundings. The walk down to the harbour using the cliff path had the most beautiful views out to the bay and over the harbour. There are several seats to rest and enjoy the views. It is a good concrete path with steps. There is a large car park in the centre of Mevagissey if preferred. The cottage has good parking and a pleasant garden. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Judith, September 2020 -
David “Lovely place, great as a place to use as a base Nice owners and very helpful”
- David, August 2020 -
Sheelagh “Lovely house to stay in, only drawback being you definitely need a car to get around.”
Mevagissey is a beautiful town full of little streets going here, there and everywhere and it has some wonderful shops and restaurants. We had a really nice time there.
- Sheelagh, March 2020 -
Glyn “Spotlessly clean, very quite location.”
- Glyn, August 2019 -
Ruth “Great location.”
Good facilities. Accurately described. Would recommend.
- Ruth, July 2019 -
Jonathan “An Kres is a wonderful little home from home, with every comfort you can think of.”
.. even the dreaded WiFi that no one seems to be able to cope without.. Too many things to list that are available for use on arrival, and all they ask is that you keep it tidy and put the rubbish out.. Gill and Colin are lovely hosts and neighbours and are full of useful local information but by the same token will leave you alone to enjoy Located just outside the village of Mevagissy it's either a quick walk downhill to the town or you can take the car.. helpful tip.. use the willow car and coach park as this means you can drive straight out without having to drive through the town to come back Small patio area to the rear of the house is great if theres just the two of you, but the dog struggled as he didn't have any grass (he,s fussy like that) but a quick walk round the corner soon sorted him out.. Would definately recommend as this is great value for money for this time of year, will hopefully be back again sometime soon.. Jon & Allison
- Jonathan, July 2019 -
Gill “A lovely, warm, cosy cottage in a quiet cul-de-sac with a pretty garden with seating.”
Be aware that the walk down to the harbour is short but very steep. Owners very helpful
- Gill, February 2019 -
Ian “This was our first experience with Sykes Cottages and we were really pleased with the quite location, available parking and the cleanliness and comfort of our cottage.”
- Ian, October 2018 -
Brenda “Lovely bungalow everything there we needed for a perfect base to explore.”
Downside to the bungalows situation was the very steep hill if you go down to the village and walk back up again. Disabled people would definetly need to drive to the village and back.
- Brenda, September 2018 -
David “Wonderful cottage we really enjoyed our stay.”
They thought of everything you needed, Home from home.
- David, June 2018 -
Jennifer “Lovely comfortable stay, would happily recommend.”
Had everything you could need for a week away and more.
- Jennifer, June 2018 -
Beverley “Excellent base for us and our dog.”
More spacious than other one bedroomed accommodation we have stayed in. Very clean and well equipped and would not hesitate to recommend it. Need to be fairly fit to tackle the hill walking back from Mevagissey.
- Beverley, June 2018 -
Susan “Felt the accommodation could be improved by clearing the small garden of all the enormous bushes to make it pleasant to sit out in.”
Currently you have to fight your way through to a small rusty table in amongst the bushes. It could be made really nice for visitors to sit out in and to eat outside. The bushes also make it very difficult to access the washing line.
- Susan, April 2018 -
Ann “Loved this little cottage.”
Perfect for two people. Beautifully appointed, wonderfully comfortable, spotlessly clean, deceptively spacious. Gorgeous little secluded garden. Thoroughly enjoyed our week there.
- Ann, April 2018 -
Janette “Cottage was extremely comfortable.”
It was the cleanest property I've ever rented. The only downside was the storage heaters which didn't seem to work so well so we had to have the electric fire on for warmth in the evening.
- Janette, March 2018 -
Mike “Cottage was excellent with everything needed for a holiday.”
The location was not ideal the choice was either a very steep hill into the village or a battle to find a car park. Plenty to do around but not much of note in Mevagissey.
- Mike, August 2017 -
Kathryn “Had a fabulous break.”
An Kres is very clean, comfortable, well equipped and situated in great location in Cornwall. Would definitely recommend to others!
- Kathryn, November 2016 -
Barbara “Fantastic place to stay everything we needed very clean and comfotable would highly recommend this property”

- Michael, October 2016 -
Pauline “Just list that the 5 minutes walk to harbour is down a steep hill which is fine if your reasonably fit.”
We did it twice but it made me puff .
- Pauline, September 2016 -
Ian “We were extremely pleased with the standard of cleanliness and had chosen the property as it was modern in design with up to date fittings etc.”
so were not disappointed. The bathroom and shower was perfect too. The only downside for us personally was that the garden was not designed with a dog in mind therefore we found it was not ideal for our elderly labrador/spaniel cross. I had envisaged the garden differently than we found it to be, so will undertake more research when making any future bookings. The hill down to the harbour in Mevagissey would be too steep for some people to manage to walk, which we did not appreciate fully until the return journey (although there were payable parking facilities in Mevagissey). We had a wonderful time with so much to see and do in the area and would recommend the property to anyone fit and able to manage the hills when on foot. P.S. We noted the owner feedback book with minor points: No potato peeler or tin opener. An indoor clothes airer would be appreciated if it is too wet to use the outdoor washing line. P.P.S. There was no extra bedding should this have been required and we were unable to find any instructions for the wall heaters (which to my knowledge did not appear to work, although the small room fire did). Thankfully we were very lucky with good weather for the time of year and had a fantastic time.
- Ian, September 2016 -
Michelle “An Kres was a wonderful place to stay.”
The owners were very welcoming on arrival. It is situated in a beautiful place with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Would recommend.
- Michelle, May 2016 -
Kevin “An Kres is good accommodation with everything provided, it's like home from home.”
Clean and comfortable. Ideally situated for Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan.
- Kevin, November 2015 -
Jayne “The property was near enough to walk to the harbour but in a nice quiet road.”
Couldn't have asked for a nicer property, it is well decorated and deceivingly spacious. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely return to this property.
- Jayne, October 2015 -
Robert “We were very happy at An Kres, it would be hard to find a better base for our holiday.”
All in all, if we go to Cornwall again we wouldn't hesitate to stay at An Kres again, the owners are very nice and nothing was too much trouble.
- Robert, August 2015 -
Roger “Had an absolutely delightful stay.”
- Roger, May 2015 -
Daniel “What a surprise we had when we arrived to this place.”
Situated in the harbour town of Mevagissey, this cottage was an absolute delight. The owners are very pleasant and left us to it the entire week which shows we did not have any issues. Everything was available to us. We had our dog too who loved the coast. There was lots to see and not enough time, we will be returning for a second visit next year no doubt. This is a must see place if you haven't already visited and this cottage I'd highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit Cornwall. It was close to everything we wanted to see. An ideal place for a couple and their dog.
- Daniel, April 2015 -
Sharon “This is by far the best cottage we have stayed in.”
It is obvious the owners take pride in their properties and wish their visitors to enjoy the time spent in them. Spotlessly clean. Wonderful places to visit and the weather was not bad for March. Well done the owners of An Kres.
- Sharon, March 2015 -
Matthew “A great cottage; very well decorated, extremely clean and had a nice secure garden for our puppy to run around in.”

The owners were extremely helpful with setting us up with WiFi and giving us advice regarding local roads, eating places etc.
- Phil, September 2014 -

This is the second time we have stayed here and hope to be back for a third time. Just can't fault it!
- Michael, August 2014 -

This is the best accommodation of this type I have stayed in. Top marks to the owners.
- Maureen, July 2014 -

Mevagissey is a lovely place to stay and explore the area. Great walks on the cliff tops - walked nearly 100 miles in the week.
- Ian, June 2014 -

This was the most perfect level of comfort, cleanliness and freedom of any holiday we have had so far.

Roy “Accommodation was perfect, spotless, and well furnished.”
Location was good, and owners very friendly and helpful.
- Roy, April 2014 -
Linda “The accommodation was extremely clean and well presented and very comfortable and cosy.”
We received a warm welcome from the owners, and although they were on hand for any requirements we may have had, they were not in your face. We would highly recommend for a visit to Cornwall with its lovely fishing ports, sandy beaches and cliff walks. Also lots of entertaining and beautiful places to visit.
- Linda, December 2013 -
Ian “We had a good holiday, enjoyed it all.”

The locals were very friendly and welcoming. The property is situated in a quiet location with parking which is a bonus.
- Jayne, October 2012 -
Jeffrey “The cottage was really nice, very quiet and peaceful.”
Very nice welcome from the owner, showed us around and then left us to enjoy our holiday! Would certainly book it again if we go down there to stay. Good centre to explore the area.
- Jeffrey, September 2012 -
Mrs Roos-Dopheide “We thought the location of An Kres was perfect and the owners were very friendly and most helpful, while not being at all intrusive.”
One of the most well maintained and equipped cottages that we have ever been to and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
- Mrs Roos-Dopheide, September 2012 -

Whilst An Kres was in a residential street and I had my concerns it is in fact the perfect location as its quiet and easy to park but close to the town and major access routes for days out.

Mr Ball “We loved the cottage, the harbour, Mevagissey and the many places we visited during the week.”
- Mr Ball, June 2011 -
Barry “An excellent base for 2 people.”
The owners gave us a friendly welcome and helpful information. Best place to eat was The Salamander but do book beforehand. Stiff 1 in 4 hill up from Mevagissey, 20 mins up from harbour. Much to do - walking on coast path and inland, gardens, National Trust houses, China Clay museum near St Austell.
- Barry, May 2011 -

Mrs Maclean “Great property which was like 'home from home'.”
Very well appointed, modern, very clean & nicely furnished. Garden small but gets the sun all day at some part & due to fab weather we were able to eat all meals outside. Good location in very quiet residential street, very steep hill down to/up from village which was OK for us as we are very fit & enjoy walking! The owners who live next door are exceptionally friendly & helpful, if required. We had a great time !!
- Mrs Maclean, June 2010 -
Asim “I loved the cottage and the location.”
The scenery and the different places to explore were truly amazing. I would love to come back again. The ferry to Fowey was wonderful. The cottage was very well furnished and clean which was important especially because we have an 8 month baby with us. The owners were very helpful and were very kind.
- Asim, April 2010 -

Lots to see and do locally.

Proximity to St Austell was also useful. The apartment itself was modern and clean, definitely well looked after. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great, perfect after a long day out. The owners, who live next door, are very easy going and approachable.
