“Given the current situation with Covid, the lodge was not as clean as I expected, it was a bit grubby, there was dirt on the floor in the bathroom, and the plugholes had hair in them, it all seemed a bit rushed to be honest.”
The lodge itself is nice but could do with a bit of freshening up, it's a little tired looking with paint coming off the walls, tiles in bathrooms and kitchen are a bit dated. However it is lovely and comfortable, and this didn't affect our enjoyment, it could just do with updating to make it even nicer. The lodge is in a lovely location but could do with having a better number on it to let you know you've found the right one. The bar is lovely, and all the staff we met were lovely, except the bar manager, who was very rude and abrupt when we had a query from being given the wrong take away menu, she was rude with everyone we saw her interact with though, so could do with working on that! Overall though a lovely holiday, although if you have any questions before you go, it may be best to contact Honicombe Manor directly as Sykes don't get back to you.
“Location can not fault but outside light by hot tub and wall lights not working still already been reported by previous customer.”
Hot tub cold could not use even though owner insists all is ok with the hot tub property was vacated on the Wednesday prior to our arrival on the Friday but the hot tub was not cleaned or refilled until the Friday so could not use, it was only look warm on Saturday Kevin came-and said all was ok and he would get the company out that service it but They never came it just smelt that more chemicals had been put in when you put the jets on they cut out after appointmently 10 minutes temperature was showing 100f 38-40 c but it was no we’re near that again owner insists it was fine we have been to different locations with hot tubs and never experienced anything like this before even in winter Look at the visitors book and pages had been torn out Can still recommend and will use skyes cottages again as they were really helpful in resolving this matter will go back to valley lodge but definitely not to no 31
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that the hot tub did not meet your expectations on this occasion. For hygiene reasons the hot tub is emptied after the departure of every guest and cleaned and refilled on the morning of the arrival of new guests and this is usually sufficient time for the water to reach the correct temperature. The hot tub has subsequently been checked by a professional hot tub company who have advised it is working normally. Also the outside light and the wall lights have now been fixed. Owner relations
“Great place, great lodge and the hot tub was excellent.”
After 24 hours we had already booked the same lodge for next year.
“The accommodation itself corresponded to our expectations.”
In the run-up, we looked at these and the location very closely. The whole area is very nice. Pleasant was the uncomplicated key regulation. In detail, there are already some things to notice. The cleanliness in the house, especially in the kitchen was very poor. Two shower towels for two people for 14 days are too tight, especially if you book accordingly, relies on it and therefore has no alternative. The jacuzzi could not be used, as there is no real roof over this and the rain (and it rained very much in time) completely dripped.Likewise, the seating on terrace and balcony could not be used, as they are completely soaked in rain. The jacuzzi could not be switched off, so it came at night to water circulation, which always aroused. There are no instructions regarding heating and hot water. If you do not know the systme already from earlier times and also do not know that the towel dryer only work with (!) the heating, you are lost. There is no Wi-Fi in the house and the phonenet quality in the house is very insufficient. The TV receives only via Digital Video Broadcasting and that very bad. Some programs could not be tracked at all, because the transmission broke off every 2 seconds.
“The hot tub was attached to the main bedroom making it difficult for other adults to access it.”
The fridge had not been cleaned properly cooked bacon on a plate was found at the back of the fridge. Another dirty plate had also been left in the fridge. The decking outside was not in good order. There was no where to dry wet towels and swim wear. The whole week we were plagued by wasps. Every time a door or window was opened wasps would enter the property.
“The lodge itself was a huge disappointment when we arrived and felt very unclean.”
We spent a few hours cleaning the place so we could stay there. The lodge could be amazing but it needs much better upkeep, it smelt awful, the kitchen had old food all over the worktops, there was mud all over outside and none of the lamps had working bulbs. The facilities though around the lodge were excellent, the pub and childs disco were brilliant as was the outdoor pool and in an excellent place to travel around Cornwall. We are looking to go again next year and if it wasnt for the unclean lodge would have definitely booked here again. We usually do a full clean of the lodge when we leave but didnt bother with this one as already spent too long cleaning it when we arrived.
“The maitence guy showed us how to use the hot tub when turning the outside light on in doing so he blew broke the light and never came back to fix it dispite being asked several times during our stay as we were in the hot tub a lot especially when it was dark.”
However overall the lodge was a lovely place and I would consider coming back
“Best couple of days we have had in a long time no technology no wifi playing board games like the old days really good to get the family together again.”
“The home was very comfortable clean and fully equipped.”
The park itself was wonderful, brilliant facilities, swimming pool, games room, bar area. Staff there were amazing so welcoming. I would visit this area again. Thank you
“A washing machine would have been useful”
“We had a wonderful stay and lively walks with our dog .”
We left early but only due to the bad weather we will be coming back
“This property was rather tired !”
Laminate was peeling from the bedroom furniture, the sofa was extremely uncomfortable ! There was a broken shelf in the fridge and the kettle left a lot to be desired along with a very unstable leg on the dining table which I note from the visitors book had been like that a while. We had no heating as it had not been turned back on. The heating and the table were sorted after a few calls to Jamie and Kevin who were very polite and helpful. There was also a brown scum on the hot tub which was explained as the water coming from a bore hole! Regards the tub and the heating some info in the lodge would be helpful! Unfortunately the lodge did not live up to my expectations from your website.
“I didn't expect the courtesy call from yourselves which was a nice touch, the lodge could do with a lick of paint but was perfectly adequate for our two weeks.”
The hot tub was great and the site although a little tired had excellent facilities for which you'd pay at least 800 pounds more at one of the bigger more up market sites. Site was clean and quiet and in the silence of the Tamar Valley. On the whole if you want good value I'd go to Honicombe and this lodge again.

About the location
Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles.
Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
