“I must admit I had reservations before our holiday, having read negative reviews that were posted after we had made our booking.”

Therefore I called Sykes for confirmation, who ere thoroughly professional, the week before we went away, on the issues raised including lack of storage in the bedroom, shared driveway and confirmation whether the property had its own garden or if the drive was gated. With it being dog friendly, should my dog reel the need to relieve himself during the night, was I able to let my dog out but no, I would have to get dressed and walk him round to the park next door, not ideal. At this point should Sykes had offered me the opportunity to change properties, I would have taken it. However there was nothing amiss in the description that would warrant a change, so we went ahead. On arrival we were prepared and as I said despite our reservations, it was well presented, clean , compact and fully equipped. It turned out the drive is shared, with one side dedicated to the property. This was confirmed by Chloe who visited, to welcome us and see if the TV was working as the previous people had had issues. Chloe was brilliant and only lived down the road if we needed anything, so that was reassuring, Storage was an issue as the 2 of the cupboards were locked and with limited space in the third, we found a rail and used that, rather than live out of a suitcase for the week. Additionally despite reassurance from the owner answering a review, the sofa was still in need of a clean.Eventually we left two days early, not due to our dislike of the property but we had done enough in the time we had away, but we did leave with a sense of relief, as the property was rather restrictive. Overall Bramble Cottage (is not a cottage, its a garage conversion) which is ideally situated for anyone wanting a base to put their head down, ideal for two and no more and is very restrictive with dogs, due to no garden. Going forward I will read all descriptions on Sykes very carefully, without rose tinted glasses and do some research first, before making a booking,

About the location

ST COLUMB MINOR

Porth 1 mile; Newquay 1.6 miles; Truro 14 miles.

St Columb Minor is a quiet village off the main road into Newquay, with a supermarket and an excellent local pub, the Farmers Arms. Here, apart from being well-known for their food and local ales, a varied range of weekly events prove most popular. Opposite the pub, is the magnificent village church, dating from around 1430, and the high tower has been a landmark for generations of fishermen. There are many lovely beaches on offer in Newquay that you will be spoilt for choice but, for families, Porth beach takes some beating. A lovely sandy beach with a sheltered aspect being protected by headlands on both sides, it has been a favourite with those in the know for many years. Just over a mile away is the town of Newquay which is known as the home of the UK’s surf scene, boasting three major beaches, the National Surf Centre and an endless supply of rolling surf, making it a watersports paradise!
