“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Thatchings.”

The owner, Steve, was very accommodating & communication was very good throughout. We actually had car troubles on our way down and he was great in finding a garage we could use. The cottage was immaculately clean - not a spec of dust - even under the beds! Our children like to play hide & seek and they were under there but it was spotless. Considering it’s a cottage that allows dogs (we had our own two dogs with us) it was probably the cleanest one we have ever stayed in. Credit to Diana the ...

Credit to Diana the cleaner! … the cottage was exactly like it looks on the website & unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather so didn’t get to use the lovely garden much but we did get to use the log burner and spent a fair bit of time in the cottage … it was really comfortable and even the kids and dogs we happy relaxing there (my children are 5 & 6 so it says a lot of they were happy to stay indoors

The property

Perfectly located for both touring the stunning north Cornish coastline and beach holidays, this charming old thatched cottage is set on the edge of the small town of Stratton, under two miles from the top coastal resort of Bude.

As you arrive at this picture postcard cottage you will sense the character of Thatchings immediately.

On entering into the welcoming open-plan kitchen and dining area a lovely family feel will greet you, where you can all gather together to spend quality time with one another over a tasty homemade meal, the wealth of appliances here sure to be of assistance on a self-catered stay, with plenty of tempting eateries being in easy reach too when you don't feel like cooking.

Going through into the delightfully spacious yet snug sitting room, you will find a large fireplace with a multi-fuel stove at its centrepiece, providing a welcoming warmth to the room in the winter months as you snuggle down for a family film night.

There are three bedrooms in the cottage offering a choice of sleeping arrangements for your group needs, consisting of a master bedroom with king sized bed, a second bedroom with double bed, and a final twin room with two single beds, each bedroom offering a stylish interior in which to rest.

Begin the day with a soak in the bath before pouring yourself a warming cup of coffee and stepping out into the garden; being fully enclosed, it makes an ideal spot for children to play, with a fine decked area with loungers and table and chairs for total relaxation for the adults.

Stratton is a small, historic market town established in Roman times of fine Georgian houses and thatched cottages.

The property benefits from two excellent pubs within walking distance, with the Kings Arms located just across the road from the cottage and The Tree Inn just a 2 minute walk, both serving fine local ales and home cooked food, perfect after a great day out exploring the many wonders of the local area, with general stores scattered about too so you can pick up any fresh ingredients for your homemade meals.

With Bude so close by and a choice of beaches to suit all the family, this is the ideal location for the perfect beach holiday!

At the end of the day though, being able to return to the tranquil surroundings of such a wonderful relaxing thatched cottage will surely make Thatchings an ideal choice for a coastal holiday whatever time of year.

About the location

STRATTON

Bude 2.5 miles.

A charming small town close to the resort town of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its lovely old church, local pubs and good array of amenities, it’s a fantastic base for exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rocky pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path and many other rights of way winding over the cliff tops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea are a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside, while a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants take care of any other wants and needs. Bude Canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town and rowing a boat through its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two. Within the town there are also two golf courses, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley and leisure centre. A perfect location for all that North Cornwall has to offer.

Please note this property will only accept 7-night stays commencing strictly on a Saturday.
