“Arrived at the property which we were able to get into earlier than the stated 5pm which was great.”

We loved having the cream tea which was a really nice gesture and we enjoyed it with a welcome cup of tea which was lovely after the long journey. We loved having the cream tea which was a really nice gesture and we enjoyed it with a welcome cup of tea which was lovely after the long journey. We did not see the owner during our weeks stay we did try to contact them a couple of times regarding what to do with the key when we left early on the Friday but unfortunately we did not hear back. Accommodation was clean and tidy. It was great having the bedroom downstairs with the en-suite shower room. Although we did keep experiencing a drain smell coming from the bathroom which wasn’t very pleasant. The stairs to the upstairs are a bit steep but there is a lovely size bedroom and a nice size bathroom with a large bath in it. It does say that there is a washing machine at the property although there is not one inside the cottage. We did have to hunt around to find the instructions for the kitchen appliances which we discovered in the top cupboard above the microwave. Top cupboards are a little bit high to reach when your short like myself. There was only one light bulb working under the kitchen cupboards above the work surface. There is only a small fridge with a very small freezer compartment. We did have a lovely stay and the cottage location was in an ideal area and you do have a lovely sea view which was an added bonus. We enjoyed our weeks holiday and was able to dodge the rain showers and there was only one day where we stayed in to avoid the rain and very strong windy weather.

The property

Scenic views sighting the sea on Cornwall's Riviera coastline can be admired from this beautiful converted barn.

Nestled slightly inland amidst peaceful countryside on a working farm in the hamlet of Trethurgy, Leghorn combines excellent accommodation standards with a tranquil setting for a relaxing break yet is a short drive to the long sandy beaches at Pentewen, Porthpean and Par (dog-friendly) and some of the county's major tourist attractions.

Well placed for a varied holiday experience, the renowned Eden Project is within walking distance; Charlestown, famous for its collection of tall ships, is a 15 minute drive whilst the exclusive waterfront town of Fowey; the cathedral city of Truro and the charming fishing village of Mevagissey are a 30 minute drive. Fun filled days on the coast can end with a soak in the hot tub, a barbecue on the sheltered deck patio or beside the warm glow of the stylish wood burner during the cooler months.

The interior has immense rustic appeal with a contemporary kitchen and two luxurious en-suite bathrooms adding a touch of glamour.

Pet owners, walkers and cyclists can embark on the scenic foot and cycle paths of the Clay Trails and children will love to meet the resident Leghorn and Black Rock chickens, ducks, geese and pigs.

It is ideal for larger groups when booked with the attached residence, Black Rock , which can accommodate four guests.

About the location

ST. AUSTELL

Charlestown 2 miles; Carlyon Bay 3 miles; Mevagissey 6 miles; Fowey 8 miles.

The old market town of St Austell, just a mile or two from the south coast, is famous as the historic centre of the china clay mining industry. Today, its many beaches and its sub-tropical gardens provide plenty to see and do. The wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are perfect for a family day out, and a little further afield Caerhays Castle provides a stunning backdrop to Porthluny Cove. On the edge of town, St Austell Brewery offers tours of the Victorian brewing equipment and a chance to sample the local beer, and for those looking for surf and sand, St Austell Bay has several beaches to choose from - Porthpean, Carlyon Bay, Pentewan, Polkerris - the last offering a variety of water-sports. As well as a small shingle beach, Charlestown, a pretty, historic port, often has wooden sailing ships in the harbour, and is popular as a film location. A little further afield are Fowey and its beautiful estuary to the east and the fishing port of Mevagissey to the west. With lots to do and something to keep the whole family entertained, St Austell is a great year-round destination.
