“This property is well furnished with comfortable furniture and beds, good pillows and bedding.”

The kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials. It is smaller than the pictures makes it appear and we had dog crates with us which makes it quite cramped. There is also some mould on the grouting in the shower and round the window in the bathroom. The welcome pack consists of a packet of Tesco scones, clotted cream and jam. I am gluten and lactose intolerant, the owners obviously did not know but in this day and age with vegetarians, vegans and intolerances couldn’t help feeling it ...

I am gluten and lactose intolerant, the owners obviously did not know but in this day and age with vegetarians, vegans and intolerances couldn’t help feeling it could be more imaginative. The patio doors from the garden go through the bedroom, it was very wet when we stayed and I was terrified a wet, muddy dog would jump on the bed, with careful manoeuvring they didn’t but there was no mop available in the property to wash the floors. We had asked to take 3 dogs via Sykes which the owner agreed to. We did have issues regarding the washing machine and dryer, it was a very wet week when we were there and each time we went to use the washer or drier they were both in use with big notices on them telling us not to remove whatever was in them, there was a contact number, when phoned no one answered, we didn’t bother leaving a message. The hot tub shed is kept locked, which means in effect you have to get permission to use it by asking for the key, which I didn’t. There is nothing in the property about the local area, walks or activities, no leaflets or maps. There is also nothing for if the weather is bad, there are no games, books or playing cards. Due to circumstances I spent a lot of time on my own in the property but had fortunately taken books with me. We did have some issues regarding the adjoining door between properties, we had booked both, I would suggest you get very clear assurances from Sykes and the owner about the arrangements you require before booking.

Scenic views sighting the sea on Cornwall's Riviera coastline can be admired from this beautiful converted barn.

Nestled slightly inland amidst peaceful countryside on a working farm in the hamlet of Trethurgy, Leghorn combines excellent accommodation standards with a tranquil setting for a relaxing break yet is a short drive to the long sandy beaches at Pentewen, Porthpean and Par (dog-friendly) and some of the county's major tourist attractions.

Well placed for a varied holiday experience, the renowned Eden Project is within walking distance; Charlestown, famous for its collection of tall ships, is a 15 minute drive whilst the exclusive waterfront town of Fowey; the cathedral city of Truro and the charming fishing village of Mevagissey are a 30 minute drive. Fun filled days on the coast can end with a soak in the hot tub, a barbecue on the sheltered deck patio or beside the warm glow of the stylish wood burner during the cooler months.

The interior has immense rustic appeal with a contemporary kitchen and two luxurious en-suite bathrooms adding a touch of glamour.

Pet owners, walkers and cyclists can embark on the scenic foot and cycle paths of the Clay Trails and children will love to meet the resident Leghorn and Black Rock chickens, ducks, geese and pigs.

It is ideal for larger groups when booked with the attached residence, Black Rock , which can accommodate four guests.

About the location

ST. AUSTELL

Charlestown 2 miles; Carlyon Bay 3 miles; Mevagissey 6 miles; Fowey 8 miles.

The old market town of St Austell, just a mile or two from the south coast, is famous as the historic centre of the china clay mining industry. Today, its many beaches and its sub-tropical gardens provide plenty to see and do. The wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are perfect for a family day out, and a little further afield Caerhays Castle provides a stunning backdrop to Porthluny Cove. On the edge of town, St Austell Brewery offers tours of the Victorian brewing equipment and a chance to sample the local beer, and for those looking for surf and sand, St Austell Bay has several beaches to choose from - Porthpean, Carlyon Bay, Pentewan, Polkerris - the last offering a variety of water-sports. As well as a small shingle beach, Charlestown, a pretty, historic port, often has wooden sailing ships in the harbour, and is popular as a film location. A little further afield are Fowey and its beautiful estuary to the east and the fishing port of Mevagissey to the west. With lots to do and something to keep the whole family entertained, St Austell is a great year-round destination.
