Polzeath is a mile up the coast with surf school, or enjoy a coffee and brunch at family friendly The Point restaurant.

Spend a fun day at Rock, a favoured resort famed for its excellent water sports.

The sandy beach at low tide stretches to stunning Daymer Bay with rolling surf and rock pools for exploration, so bring buckets, spades and fishing nets.

Dogs are permitted all year round so good beach strolls with Fido are guaranteed.

Enjoy the estuary views to Padstow or better still board the Black Tor ferry across the River Camel estuary and peruse the boutiques, galleries and Rick Stein's restaurant, all dotted around the quay.

Port Isaacs' picturesque cove (the home of TV's Doc Martin) and Port Quin with coasteering and kayaking for the energetic, are within a short drive.

Wadebridge is four miles away - great for stocking up on provisions.

For less wet escapades, hire a cycle and peddle the scenic, level Camel Trail or ramble the inland and south west coastal footpath with spectacular seascape vistas.

St Enodoc is within a mile of the cottage with a superb 18 hole links golf course.

After the days' activities the Fourways Coaching Inn in the heart of St Minver offers good Cornish fayre and traditional ales if you opt to stay local.
