We stayed at Heli View cottage in June and we had a wonderful time! The cottage has recently been renovated and is to a very high standard, exceptionally clean and well equipped.. the beds were really comfortable and towels nice and fluffy. Our 3 year old is plane obsessed so he loved watching the jets take off and land. We visited the air ambulance a couple of times and the team were so friendly and accommodating. They showed us the helicopter and we loved it.. they do such amazing work and this is such a great way to raise awareness of exactly how much it is needed.. We weren’t bothered by airplane noise at all, and although you can hear the air ambulance taking off, it’s soon away as it’s so fast! Hottub is amazing and it’s huge! Lots of lovely lights around it... Very relaxing! There is a brand new barbecue too ( we didn’t get round to using it but looked fab) Beaches wise we went to Porth which is gorgeous and child friendly. Mawgan porth is lovely too, can recommend fish and chips opposite the beach at sunset! We had days out at Lappa Valley railway which we’d recommend and Perrenporth beach isn’t far, we also went to padstow ( a favourite of ours) We would recommend the Traveller’s Rest pub for great food. The cottage is really well located from pretty much everywhere! If you have young kids you will need to take a travel cot and be aware that there is no stair gate at the top of the stairs as yet. We have left a stair gate which we put over our child’s door at night but this probably needs sorting if lots of children will be staying here as the stairs are fairly steep. We really miss the cottage and looking forward to staying again! Book this, you won’t regret it!!

The property

Heliview Cottage is a stone-built, detached property nestled alongside and owned by the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, near Newquay Airport.

It offers bags of character and a contemporary-style interior welcoming families, couples and friends to share a well-earned break in an interesting part of Cornwall.

The cottage is a haven for aviation enthusiasts, with opportunity to see the helicopters up close, meet the crew and glimpse views of Newquay Airport from the bedroom windows upstairs.

Make the most of your relaxation time on return from an adventure on the coast and unwind into your evening in the bright and airy lounge.

You can get cosy by the woodburner during the winter months and enjoy a board game at the coffee table or catch up on your favourite shows on TV.

Rustle up a home-cooked meal in the modern-style kitchen and get the whole group together around the dining table to catch up on events form the day.

The sun room can be enjoyed the year-round, a lovely spot for a cup of tea and a chat as you watch the arrivals and departures at the nearby airport from the enclosed garden.

Find three bedrooms over two floors upstairs; there is a double and a twin, which has zip/link beds for flexible sleeping arrangements, then another twin room rests under the eaves.

This is the perfect hideout for the children, where they can snuggle into bean bag chairs with a good book or play games together, as the natural light from the Velux windows flows through.

Pass a summer's afternoon in the garden and enjoy a spot of alfresco dining at the picnic bench or dip in the hot tub under the pergola and take in the views of the surrounding farmland towards the sea in the distance.

St Columb Major is a lovely market town to base your holiday, close to all the seaside wonders of Newquay.

Take the kids to the zoo or SEA LIFE centre and find endless shops, pubs and eateries as well as opportunities to surf and try a number of other watersports.

Visit the St Agnes Heritage Coast to see the iconic Wheal Coates tin mine ruins or feel the golden sands of Chapel Porth Beach beneath your feet.

This is the place to truly get away and explore a beautiful part of the country.
