Crantock Beach is popular for surfing, like many beaches in the Newquay area, and is backed by sand dunes. The beach is extensive at low tide, but can be quite treacherous due to strong currents, especially where the River Gannel meets the water. The sand has a tendency to become quick at certain places too, so take care. There are lifeguards present at the beach during the peak season so be sure to look out for their flags. As access to the beach involves crossing the sand dunes, it makes it difficult with wheelchairs and prams.  There is a car park at Crantock Beach as well as toilet facilities - and the beach is dog friendly throughout the year.
