Sam’s in the City, Truro
I have wanted to try this restaurant out for ages, having walked past it countless times whilst shopping in Truro. It always looks so inviting, and I have heard great things about their burgers, in particular. So when my husband asked to celebrate his birthday there this weekend, I have to say I was really quite excited!
After a couple of hours shopping on Saturday morning, we’d had enough, and headed over to Sam’s in the City. We hadn’t booked, but it wasn’t a problem, and we were offered a table upstairs. The room itself was fascinating – full of musical instruments, memorabilia and posters – and it’s also a great location for watching the world go by in the square below.
The menu is a mix of fabulous-sounding burgers, steaks and seafood class – with classic sides such as homemade coleslaw, sweet potato fries and onion rings. Chris ordered a quarter-pound Stilton cheese burger, whilst I (not feeling as hungry) opted for Sam’s Hot Wok Superfood Salad with a chargrilled burger. When our food arrived, though, I thought perhaps I should have gone for a starter or side dish instead – both dishes were of extremely generous proportions, so much so that I couldn’t eat all of mine (and that really is a first!).
I wish I had been hungrier, as the superfood salad and burger really were delicious – and Chris said that his was the best meal he’d had out in years! There was no room for dessert, but of course, I did have a look at the menu, and they all sounded delicious – melted chocolate fudge cake and New York style cheesecake to name just a couple.
Sam’s in the City is a great restaurant for couples, friends or families (they provide colouring sheets and crayons for younger visitors), and it is also a bar – offering a comprehensive list of all the classic cocktails. I imagine this is a great place to come for dinner and a few drinks of an evening.
