Description
Chenalls Cottage, is a detached former farmhouse in a wonderful rural location and boasts many traditional features; granite fireplaces, timber panelled walls and beamed ceilings.
It is beautifully presented with a classic mix of old antiques and modern furnishings to provide a modern yet characterful homely space.
From the entrance hall, doors lead through to the utility area and shower room, a modern kitchen with dining table for family meals and the lounge has a lovely tiled floor and wood burning stoves at each end providing warmth and charm that adds to the character.
On the first floor are three, cream carpeted bedrooms keeping with the theme of offering traditional character with modern touches.
Two are double rooms and one a twin room.
The family bathroom has a bath and separate shower.
Outside, guests have freedom to explore the land that extends down behind the farmhouse and the adjoining orchard.
There is also a summer house where BBQs and alfresco breakfasts can be enjoyed and there is convenient parking directly outside the property.
There is a lovely restaurant just across the road, day time opening and the ancient market town of Helston, home of the Furry Dance, is within five miles where there are two major supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.
Venture a little further to Gweek and have a day out at the seal sanctuary.
Chenalls Cottage is well placed for exploring West Cornwall and ideal for friends and family visiting whatever the time of year.

Fantastic cottage, one of the best we have ever booked in the UK in terms of cleanliness and facilities.
Spacious for our party of six which included older children/young adults. A great area to visit as well, so much to do. Check in time was later than we are used to but this wasn’t a problem, the weather was good on arrival and we headed to the beach for the afternoon. Loads of choice for shops within a ten minute drive for all your self catering requirements.

Good comms from owner prior to arrival.
Property spotless and well-equipped. Owner helpful and welcoming. Handy location for all locations around The Lizard. We used it as a base for walking nearby sections of the South West Coast Path for which it - and the walking - proved excellent. Recommended!

Chenille Cottage, the most idyllic chocolate box cottage anywhere in the UK never mind Cornwall.
The perfect location with easy driving access to the popular bays and iconic sites along with a huge driveway. This beautiful cottage has all and more that you could possibly want or wish for. Comfort, privacy, terrific bathrooms,showers, kitchen which is huge! Stunning gardens that support an array of flowers, plants and birds. It truly is gorgeous.

We booked this delightful cottage at very short notice to extend our stay in Cornwall, and Shirley kindly accommodated an early check-in.
Chris also adjusted the heating for us, as the Autumnal evening chill began. Generous private parking, and an immaculate cottage equipped with everything we needed, including welcoming drinks. A characterful property, very efficiently organised. A cosy and convenient base for us to continue our Cornish adventures, and although adjacent to a main road (Shirley had notified us and we read a previous review about road noise) we had no issues with this, it was totally ignorable.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful clean, comfy cosy cottage.
We have stayed in alot of 5* cottages & this is by far the cleanest ❤️ We had very mixed weather & it was quite nippy, grateful for the heating that was on. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent in Cornwall thank you Shirley & Chris we loved our stay in Chenalls Cottage ❤️

although the cottage itself is very nice, it is disingenuous of the owners not to reveal that it is situated on a busy and noisy road.
While the rest of my party persevered, I checked out and found alternative overnight accommodations.
Well, this was a surprise! Firstly, we do not do the listing of the property and secondly, we have been letting the Cottage for over 40 years and yes, the road has unfortunately got busier over the years, however, we cannot move the cottage! Most people these days take the opportunity to check out the property that they are to stay at on google maps. I recall you saying that you checked out the location of the property as you were retracing relatives and it was important for you to be central for everywhere you wanted to visit. I feel we bent over backwards to help you during your stay. You booked the Cottage for 6 nights from the Sunday and then rang me prior to your visit to ask if your daughter could in fact stay the night prior, of which we had no problem. We had a heat spell during your visit and your daughter asked if we could provide fans to cool the bedrooms down at night. We came across with two electric fans for your use. At no time when we spoke did you mention that you had moved out and found alternative accommodation. I guess I will have to take your word for that! On the Saturday when you should have booked out of the cottage by 9.30am, owing to car hire problems you did not vacate the cottage until 12noon that day leaving us with very little time to carry out the changeover. Did we complain! No. To call us "disingenuous " is very hurtful. I guess having lived here all my life we have moved with the busier road conditions and take very little notice. To say we are being slightly dishonest or not telling the truth is far from who we are. I am sincerely sorry that your stay was a disappointment for you & that the rest of the party persevered! I guess in future instead of being a keyboard warrior, perhaps do your homework before you book. Shirley.
Chenalls Cottage was absolutely delightful !
It was exactly as described. Spotlessly clean and comfortable for our group of 6 adults. The property was charming and welcoming. Garden with BBQ excellent for the good weather we had. Set in beautiful countryside and a short distance from Helston village where there is an excellent Museum of Cornish Life. I would highly recommend this property and hope to return again,

We have just returned from what is our second stay at Chenalls Cottage with heavy hearts.
.why? Why because this is a spectacular cottage that really is beyond compare. It truly is a "Chocolate Box" cottage with every comfort you could ever wish for along with beautiful gardens containing a vast array of lovely trees, shrubs and flowers. A private driveway that can easily park 3 cars. We have met up with owners Chris and Shirley several times now. They are so friendly and fun to be with. They really do all they can to make your stay a memorable one. The cottage is in the best possible location for all the A and B roads, making it so simple to drive anywhere in Cornwall. The beautiful town of Helston being just 3 minutes drive with the cheapest petrol in all of Cornwall! We will definetly be back again in 2024.

Chenalls Cottage is one of the nicest places we have stayed in, the cottage was beautiful, very well maintained, the place was spotless, very comfortable and great surroundings especially the garden views.
Fantastic location for travelling all around Cornwall. Despite the mixed weather, we still had great days out and always looked forward to coming back in the evenings. Would love to come back again and explore other areas of Cornwall. Shirley and Chris the owners were very helpful and are always around if needed. The welcome drinks was a nice touch when we arrived. A great cottage that had no faults.
From meeting the owners who were very friendly, receiving a welcome pack of cider and juice, the cottage was spotless. Lots of crockery, clean towels, clean comfortable beds. Wished we could have stayed.

We had a lovely time at Chenalls Cottage, it was very clean and comfortable.
The Summerhouse was great to take out a cuppa and a book. It was also nice to wander round the grounds, lots of wildlife. It was ideally situated for access to the North, South and far West of Cornwall.

Beautiful property in a lovely location!
The cottage was gorgeous and furnished with absolutely everything you could need. And as the weather during our stay was (sadly) mostly miserable, it was heaven to return to it each night. In addition, the owners were very helpful and kind, and clearly care about their tenants. We really didn't want to leave!

Credit to owners Shirley & Chris. Would definitely recommend (but don’t want too many people to know this hidden gem as would like to return). Excellent location to visit area. Recommend Wheal Dream restaurant for Sunday Lunch & evening meal.
If I was to pick a fault it was the heating.
It was on most of the time and made it far to warm in the morning, we was not sure how to turn it off. But that’s all.
Thank you for your feedback. Disappointed that we failed to receive a full score because the cottage was too warm. We do like our guests to be warm and comfortable when they arrive at the cottage and we try to judge the weeks weather and set the heating accordingly. The Economy 7 storage heaters can be turned off from an electric switch next to the heater or, the output of heat can be turned down, or off from the top of the heater. We also leave our contact details at the cottage in case there are any questions or we are needed for anything at all. Such a shame you did not ring or message us, to ask that we turn the heating down or off for you.
Beautiful old cottage with lovely modern kitchen and bathrooms.
Everything you could possibly need has been thought of and provided. Pretty garden that the children loved playing in. Shirley and Chris were very helpful, coming round within minutes of us ringing and altering the position of the stair gate up for us. They were very Covid aware and everything in the cottage was extremely clean and sparklingly. Thank you Shirley and Chris for a fantastic week …and thank you for providing us with such amazing weather too !

Really enjoyed Chenalls Cottage - the facilities were excellent.
Very central for visiting this area of Cornwall. The cottage was very comfortable.We have been with Sykes for a number of years and we do expect a certain standard if choosing a five star cottage. This did meet our expectations of that standard and would thoroughly recommend Chanells to everyone.Chris and and Shirley texted a number of times to see if all was ok. The welcome tray with Cornish treats was a nice touch. Thank you again Karen and Keith from Saddleworth.
The house and garden was in great condition.
It was very clean and tidy. The owners could not have been more helpful with our requests. In the current circumstances it felt like a lovely safe hideaway from the craziness. Thank you so much would definitely recommend and stay again.
Great, comfortable home from home, despite COVID restrictions we felt safe here, was cleaned to an impeccable level.
Great location for exploring south Cornwall
The cottage was very warm and comfortable and well equipped.
We met Shirley and Chris, the owners, who called in the day after our arrival and to say goodbye before we departed. The weather was very good during our holiday and we managed to visit all the National Trust properties in the area and also spent an afternoon down on the beach at Church Cove, Gunwalloe. We had Sunday Lunch at the New Yard Restaurant at Trelowarren and visited Henleys in Helston for their very good value "Steak Night". We also visited the Slice café twice at Shirley and Chris's Homestead Gardens and they invited us along to view their other letting property which we did. We were very impressed with the smaller apartment which would be good for a shorter break. Maybe next year!
This cottage is fantastic and we would definitely go back there, it is situated in a great location too, obviously a car is essential to get around and there is plenty of parking at the cottage, it had everything you need there for a perfect stay!

Our cottage was really fabulous, everything worked, everything was comfortable, warm and welcoming.
We had a fabulous holiday and would definitely use Cornish Cottage holidays again. One peculiar experience was on Tuesday a gentlemen came into the garden un-announced, didn't say hello to my mother who was standing by the open back door, he continued to spray the garden with a chemical for a short period of time and then left. We hadn't been told we'd have any trades visit or maintain the cottage while we were staying so it was very disconcerting to have him arrive and do what he needed to do. When he left my mother couldn't sit on the garden for a some time as the smell of the chemicals that had been used were too strong. If trades do need to visit the house, it would be nice to have them there when guests are not there or guests should be made aware that a tradesman will be calling, when, why and for how long.
We had a great week staying in Chenalls Cottage.
Shirley & Chris were great hosts, leaving us a couple of conish treats for our arrival. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and everything you would need for a memorable holiday.
Cottage set in beautiful countryside, yet close enough to have days out without travelling to far if you wished too .
Beautiful home, very well laid out, high quality equipment and utensils.
Everything we needed was there. We met the owner of the holiday home at the Slice, which she also owns. A very nice place to go and eat and within walking distance of her Holiday Home. Same high level attention to detail and lovely food. It is out of the way a little, a car is a definite requirement. There is no wifi and phone signal is not great (for using mobiles) Although this sounds like a moan, it isn’t. Just an observation for clarity. Would we book again? Yes, without a doubt.
Ideally situated for visiting beaches , gardens and children's entertainment, though a car is essential .
Our group , ages ranging from 3 years to 71 years , felt at home immediately on entering the house .
Somewhat misleading to describe the property address as Porthleven.
Helston would be more appropriate. It should also be made clear out that the property sits alongside the Redruth to Helston road. With windows open during the hot weather the traffic noise, if you are not used to it, is very disruptive. I left the holiday suffering from sleep deprivation. In all other respects, the property is faultless
WIFI would have been a bonus as would little extras such as plastic tubs for taking on picnics etc.
