“Unfortunately my stay was anything but ‘beautiful,’ as the listing describes.”

Upon entering the property, there was an overwhelming stench of sewerage coming for the 2nd double bedroom en-suite. Upon entering the property, there was an overwhelming stench of sewerage coming for the 2nd double bedroom en-suite. After contacting Sykes, it seems this was a common issue, as the owner advised to run the water for some time and it would clear… it did for a matter of days only! The description also mentions that a ‘ring surveillance camera monitors the internal entrance door’. The camera is inside and it also captures the hallway and the main bathroom doorway! We were initially told the camera was left on by mistake but, from the website information and the review of a previous guest, this is clearly not the case. Cleanliness and fittings are poor at the property. We found hairs in the shower cubicle and even in the hinge of the fridge and door handles were hanging off. Being by the sea, you expect some wear and tear outside, but the window structure was very corroded and after opening the window, it could not be closed, due to the eroded fixtures, which later fell out! Health and safety is an issue at the property. In the master bedroom the space between the bed and metal frame dressing table is very small, which resulted in a nasty fall for myself where I fell backwards, bruising badly my hip and my elbow, narrowly avoided hitting my head against the glass door. It is quite clear that risk assessments have not been conducted. I’m told the gap will now be widened, by moving the bed, but it is a shame it takes accidents to happen to resolve this. Booking with Sykes has been very disappointing. Despite providing photos and video evidence of all the issues, Sykes closed the case without resolution and even encouraged the owner not to compensate me for the issues raised. The views from the property, quality of the mattresses and sofas were good but that’s about it.
