Blue Anchor

This is the third time we have stayed at the cottage.

Over the past few years the decor has become a little tired and is in need of some TLC. There is a distinct smell of damp now when you enter the property. The blind in the main bedroom requires re stringing or replacing. The cushions could do with a good clean.. Outside the back door the rainwater goods had slipped which I reattched as water was running down the wall. Generally a good stay just requires a some good TLC.

Sadly very disappointing for the price.

First impressions was a broken cat flap in the rear door with pieces of wood jammed into it. It should also be noted that the height of the door is low and heads were bumped a number of times on this and various others door frames within the property. The kitchen was very nice, however in the cupboard to the left of the cooker was a large wooden chopping board covered in green mold. The lounge and dining rooms were very dark even during the day. The sofas in the lounge were very uncomfortable and not suitable for anyone with back issues. The window panes in the downstairs windows were blown and in need of replacement. Having seen the reviews of the downstairs shower room I was careful to make sure the water didn't go everywhere. I thought I'd succeed however after going out for the day we came back to find the floor flooded. Whist the property has two bathrooms you couldn't have both showers running at the same time due to very poor water pressure. That said the bedrooms were bright airy and the beds were very comfortable. The ensuite bathroom could benefit from a pole or handle to assist getting in and out of the bath/shower and the extractor fan didn't work. On the plus side the property is in a good location for exploring the local area and with an M & S food hall just down the road getting provisions was easy. We didn't use the pub, the day we arrived there was a music festival and it was very noisy, we also felt that we would feel very uncomfortable in there given the types of people we saw going in and out.

The cottage was extremely comfortable and was a perfect base for us during our week's holiday. Things to note which would help those who stay in the future: 1. put a mop or long handled water wiper in the downstairs bathroom. When using the shower the water would spray onto the bathroom floor and make it wet to stand on. This would save using towels to dry the floor. 2. I found it difficult to lock the front door from the outside, it was OK locking it from the inside. We used the back door the majority of the week. 3. No matches for the log burner. 4. No food container for scraps although this was stated in the house folder.

A lovely cottage that just needs a little tlc, broken tap in the downstairs bathroom, loose toilet seat, broken towel rail in the upstairs en suite, unfortunately the out house was full of rubbish and broken glass so we couldn't recycle.

The weather was lovely whilst we were there but we could not use the garden as it was all over grown and the table and chairs were rotten. The Blue Anchor pub which is directly opposite the cottage was great, we parked two cars on their car park and ate there twice, their gluten free offers were brilliant.

Great place to stay for my weeks work in the area, would certainly recommend.

Thoughtfully planned layout - exceptionally comfortable beds. A perfect location to access some remarkable beaches. Highly recommended.

Cottage was lovely and had all the facilities we could wish for and need.

The little additions of tea, coffee and sugar etc were a nice little treat. Clean, tidy and well presented. Comfy beds and decent showers! I didn’t see anywhere in the description about the low ceilings downstairs, although we were expecting them to be low one of our family members is quite tall and did have to duck. There was a strong damp smell downstairs and although there was nothing upstairs, it was a concern having a toddler with us. Talking of toddlers, the baby gate at the top of the stairs was great, but as there is no living room door there was no way of stopping her getting upstairs. It would be great to have a stair gate available even as a pressure fit for the bottom of the stairs.

The property was lovely and all the little touches such as tea, coffee, milk, wine, smellies etc were thoughtful and appreciated.

I was extremely disappointed that the Wi-Fi didn’t work and that I spent so much of my holiday on the phone trying to sort it out. I had a call to say it was working again but when we got back to the cottage it wasn’t. This meant I had to call to let you know and resulted in many follow up calls. It doesn’t feel much like a holiday when you are trying to fix someone else’s Wi-Fi! The cottage itself was lovely and I would love to return once Wi-Fi issues have been resolved and we could enjoy the movie night in-front of the fire that my children really looked forward to.

The cottage was very cosy and had everything we needed in the kitchen.

We really enjoyed our week and would like to stay again. Our daughters said they found their beds so comfortable. The bathrooms were lovely too. Thank you for renting your cottage to us.

Perfect location for visiting different parts of Cornwall.

The cottage was absolutely stunning.

The rooms were clean, the lounge very cozy. Bathroom . . . amazing. Kitchen lovely. Garden very pretty. I would definitely come back. Location, so central, probably the best to see all magical places in Cornwall. I must say big thank you. Stanislava Hing

Pictures cannot do justice to this lovely old place which has been renovated to a very high standard and yet retains all its charm and heritage. Highly recommended...

We had such a lovely stay at Blue Anchor, the location was really great for driving to lots of the local spots, and we also got the bus to a few places as there was a bus stop right outside the cottage.

We have a really nice stay.

The cottage is well equipped and has plenty of space. The low ceiling and door ways catch you by surprise if your 6ft like me. The location is great, it doesn’t take long to get anywhere from there. We had good weather so we’re able to make use of the garden with our 3 year old. The bbq is a great addition. We would book again if we are coming to Cornwall.

Absolute home from home.

The owner exceeded our expectations as the cottage accommodated for everything you could possibly need. Beautiful cottage in a very picturesque setting. Please make sure you look in the drawer cabinet situated under the tv in the living room as it contains leaflets about days out etc!

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, it had everything you could possibly need.

The cottage is beautiful and very homely. The only criticism I have is that the road the cottage is on, is extremely busy and noisy. We actually slept in the back room to avoid the noise.

Sykes were incredibly helpful when I had initially booked accomodation that wasn't suited to our family and did everything they could to cancel the initial booking successfully.

This allowed me to book a different cottage which suited our needs better and the deposit was transferred to our new booking which we were very thankful for. We have just returned from our break in Cornwall and we were delighted. The cottage was beautiful, clean and cosy...exactly what we wanted. Log burners with a plentiful free supply of logs kept us warm after a day in the water. We would definately return.

Quaint and charming cottage.

We felt totally relaxed and at home there. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely barbecue in the garden - that was fab! We had a truly memorable time at Blue Anchor; couldn't have asked for anything better. We left completely re-energised. Would recommend this exceptional cottage without hesitation!

This lovely quirky spacious bright cottage has been lovingly and tastefully restored, with many home comforts particularly the welcoming lounge with comfortable sofas and a wonderful log burner (which we needed every evening as weather cold!

), beds were very comfortable and bathrooms large. Unfortunately due to the weather didn't get to use the BBQ or sit out in the peaceful back garden. The cottage was very close to the stunning North coast of Cornwall with their beautiful sandy bays and also not far to Truro and the South. I would definitely recommend this cosy cottage and would stay in it again if in that part of Cornwall.
