A selection of holiday properties in Newquay
Newquay used to be known as Towan Blistra - this was until the new quay was built in the fifteenth century. The quay used to import coal and export ore, and was also known for its pilchard fishing. A huer would sit up in a hut on the headland and cry 'Hevva, hevva!' whenever he saw a pilchard shoal come by. Today, Newquay is one of Cornwall's best loved resorts, and is particularly popular amongst the surfing community. The town has a total of eleven beaches, and hosts many surfing competitions, some international, throughout the year. The town also hosts gig races and surf-life saving events amongst others during the summer months. There are countless family days out in the Newquay area, including the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo, Waterworld, Tunnels through Time, Cornwall's Crealy Adventure Park and Dairyland Farm World. The town also has two golf courses, a skate park, tennis centre, bowling and riding stables. The town centre has a wide selection of shops, including many chain stores as well as independent local traders. There are a considerable number of surf and craft shops. The town also has countless bars and restaurants, cafes, takeaways and clubs; there really is something for everyone.
