“Lowen is a sweet little cottage but very overpriced compared to others we've stayed in.”

The place was clean, had a great shower, and a decent supply of logs was left for us, but there were too many oversights from whoever is managing the property to justify over ÂŁ1700 a week. The place, smaller than the pictures suggest, was freezing cold when we arrived, having presumably been empty the previous week/s. It would have been nice if whoever left the (welcoming?) lamp on had put some heating on too. We needed to blast the motley array of electric radiators for 24 hours to thaw the ...

We needed to blast the motley array of electric radiators for 24 hours to thaw the place out. Kitchen issues: broken corkscrew; largest saucepan missing a lid; no instructions for the oven; knives need sharpening and the dishwasher needs attention as the seals are loose and trays don't slide very easily. The dining table, alongside the back of the sofa, isn't particularly comfortable with a thin bench and two chairs that don't fit underneath. Lighting in the lounge is also an issue, we had to keep moving the one lamp to get any light for reading. The wood burner is very inefficient - ours at home, for example, uses half the fuel for twice the heat. We got through an awful lot of wood keeping warm! Also, there was no bucket for the ashes. Other things that would make guests' stay more comfortable would be to leave a decent supply of toilet paper, rather than the end of one roll and just one spare. Ditto leaving just the end of a kitchen roll, milk that was out of date the day after we arrived, and an all but empty bottle of handwash in the bathroom. It all seemed very tight. If we hadn't paid so much, our expectations would have been lower, but much work needs to be done to justify ÂŁ250 a night. Needless to say, we certainly won't be returning to Lowen Cottage - there are far better more reasonably priced alternatives.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your recent stay at Lowen Cottage. We truly appreciate your comments as they help us identify areas where we can improve. We’re pleased to hear that you found the cottage clean and enjoyed the shower and the supply of logs. However, we’re very sorry to learn that other aspects of your stay did not meet expectations, particularly given the price point. The price was calculated using Sykes’ pricing system. Because your stay started on a Saturday, when our usual changeover day is Friday (as highlighted in our red notes), the system charged for two weeks’ rental as we do not offer short breaks. To acknowledge this, we left you a lovely bottle of Champagne to enjoy during your stay. In future, we will make it clearer that guests have the option to contact us regarding alternative start days. Your comments regarding the heating on arrival, kitchen equipment, lighting, and general provisions have been noted, and we understand how these issues impacted your experience. Please be assured that we are reviewing each point you raised. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We hope you might reconsider visiting us in the future once these improvements have been made. Property Owner
