Polperro is a tiny but beautiful village and fishing harbour situated just South of Looe. If you are looking for a calm and serene destination in South Cornwall, then one of our lovely holiday cottages in Polperro would be perfect.

Why a holiday cottage in Polperro?

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Polperro was notorious for smuggling - something that John Wesley noted on his visit to the village in 1762. Pilchard fishing was an important trade for Polperro in the nineteenth century, and though there has been a vast decline in pilchard numbers over the last century or so, Polperro is still a busy fishing port today. You can find a museum in the village dedicated to the history of both smuggling and fishing in the town.

Polperro has managed to retain its traditional charm with narrow streets and pretty cottages. The streets are in fact so narrow that they are pedestrianised. Horse-drawn carriages take visitors down to the harbour from the car park.

Places to visit near Polperro

There's plenty more South East Cornwall cottages to browse too. Take a trip to the popular coastal ports of Looe, Polruan, Charlestown or Fowey. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour up towards Fowey. The people who run the trips will usually provide a commentary en route to Fowey of the area's past. There is a small beach at low tide and a natural pool that is often used for swimming. Seaton offers surfers a fabulous hidden spot on its pebbly shores with consistent waves to enjoy here, a rare find in this area. Further inland you will find the towns of Lostwithiel, Bodmin or St Austell, the latter of which features the famous Eden Project attraction.
