Carvannel Cottages

We had a fantastic stay and was really happy with the accommodation.

The only downside were the mattresses on the bunk beds - they really weren't comfortable. Could feel all the springs.

Great location, like really great.

The cliff walk is an absolute must as many times as you can as the views wont let you down. Bed is firm and comfortable as are the couches. Kitchen is equipped and is a good size, Jack was really helpful and available. A definite return trip cottage for us. (Apple crumble ice cream from the farm shop-genius!)

The photos online give promise of a traditional Cornish cottage with a little luxury. We have been visiting Cornwall for just over 20 years and have stayed in a number of different accommodation types from high end luxury over looking Carbis bay to simple caravans. On this occasion we visited with our three children under the age of 6 unfortunately I confidently say we would not return to Carvannel cottage. The jets to the hot tub were not at all powerful and I would question whether the water had been changed from previous guests, this was a big factor in us booking the cottage but having a hot tub of our own at home we know that it would take a good 24hours to clean, empty, refill and reheat and hence we didn’t bother raising the issue but instead we simply didn’t use it. The ground floor felt and smelled of damp. We were greeted daily by woodlause’s in the ground floor hallway and lower carpeted stairs which I assume was related to the wooden front door which appeared to be rotting with a small hole visible. The windows were dirty, with black mould visible and persistently rattled at night time regularly waking us up. Parking on the driveway was nothing short of hazardous and I would be amazed if an accident hasn’t already happened. The opening to the driveway is narrow and located on a bend on a narrow country lane, a mirror opposite would be very helpful. The owner did advise we could park next to his farm building although this would have meant us walking with the children and a pushchair along a narrow county lane with no pavement. Furthermore there is no working light outside of the cottage meaning that it was hazardous at night as you couldn’t see a thing and there are steps. Black mould was visible on the wooden kitchen work surfaces, the kitchen bin was broken, there were holes in the bathroom door and one of the bedroom doors upstairs which had been filled with tissue paper presumably by a previous guest. The bedding was synthetic and uncomfortable on a summers evening (I do appreciate this is down to personal preference). However what I found completely unacceptable was the fact that metal springs could be felt in all of the mattresses - the children’s bunk bed was the worst, shocking in fact! The generally cleanliness all in all was just unacceptable, the sofa didn’t appear clean and on lifting a cushion and seeing visible dirt that had clearly accumulated over a long period of time we no longer sat on it. To be honest we avoided spending time there at all especially with our children being so small. The owner did message advising us to contact him if there were any issues, the list of issues that needed to be raised was extensive and not something I wanted to invest precious time doing whilst on holiday with my little ones. I can see from a previous review that some of the issues we experienced have previously been raised but clearly not actioned.

We have just had a lovely week at the cottage Jack was super helpful and took time to make sure we were all set before we even arrived.

There was a lovely little welcome package waiting for us which set the tone for our visit. The cottage is cosy and homely and our boys loved it. We can’t forget to mention the lovely farm cafe too. There is access on foot to the coastal path and local beach, and if you drive down the carpark always had spaces. The local surf shop was also friendly, helpful ands reasonably priced. We will be sure to come again if we are in the area.

We have just returned from our week stay.

The location is amazing being able to walk to the South West Coast path within ten minutes. From there you can take in the views, walk to Portreath or many miles in the opposite direction. The property itself is outstanding - between safe parking, comfort, really good WiFi, lashing of hot water, huge fridge (we did one shop for the entire week) comfy beds, a first class hot tub and a garden in which our dog spent hours running around and never did manage to escape! We book through Sykes at various places throughout the year. This is the hidden gem among many, Jack is a great host. We will return!

A lovely rural cottage located within 200 meters of an ice cream parlour and less than 2 miles from Portreath.

Fantastic walks along the coastal path with our dogs. Major attractions and popular tourist resorts are within easy driving distance. The property has a large enclosed garden with hot tub and BBQ/garden furniture. Inside had plenty of rooms with a large utility room where 2 dogs can easily sleep at night. The kitchen is spacious with all mod cons, a separate dining room and ample living room with good Wi-Fi reception indoors (outdoors not good). Upstairs has 3 good sized bedrooms and a modern bathroom with toilet and bath with shower (not separate). The owners were extremely accommodating and left us numerous welcome gifts when we arrived which was much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves week in Cornwall made so much nicer to have a place like this to come back to each evening and relax.

Hi, we enjoyed the holiday very much and it was everything it said it was, within a short drive of everything and if you ventured of a little further there was even more to discover.

The cottage was lovely, parking was great and the Hot tub was enjoyed most evening after are days out. We came away from there feeling we had a great holiday.

Fantastic cottage with a cosy, modern feel.

Hot tub an added bonus for full relaxation and the dog friendly, enclosed garden gave us peace of mind. Clean throughout and comfortable with thoughtful touches (blankets, cushions, Dog bed & bowls). Kitchen equipment exactly what was needed and plastic glasses and outdoor dining set welcomed to enjoy the garden fully. Wonderful walks to the coastal path through the farm and a number of beautiful, sandy beaches nearby. Exactly what we were hoping for!

A clean, warm, cosy cottage with everything you need.

The large enclosed garden was great for the dogs and there was everything we needed too (including a welcome, generous hamper on arrival). Jack was very helpful and responsive. We had a great stay!

Well, located for the walking surfing and swimming we had planned, and the hot tub was just the perfect way to finish the day

his is the first time that I have been disappointed with a Sykes holiday cottage, and I have been using your company for many years.

When we arrived on late on Saturday afternoon we noticed that both bathroom windows had been left open, the reason for this became perfectly clear the following morning as there was a vile smell that pervaded throughout the upstairs rooms, but was particularly unpleasant in the bathroom. So on the Sunday we bought some air freshener, but this only took the edge off it, although did prevent it spreading beyond the bathroom. On the Monday, I bought some drain cleaner/unblocker and poured it down the sink, this I left for 4 hours and then rinsed with hot water. Finally by around Thursday, the smell was all but gone. You have to understand that the smell was so awful it made me want to vomit. I have never known such a terrible pong, and i have worked in some pretty smelly places. So to the rest of the cottage, mostly it was alright, although we did think that the kitchen was a bit under supplied with cupboard space. The clock wasn't working, so we put a new battery in it, a light bulb went pop in the lounge so I had to change this too. The outside light didn't work, which didn't make for easy access in the dark due to all the steps. We used the washing machine mid week but then found that there was rather a limited number of pegs! The hot tub wasn't especially clean, with bits of the cover and flies floating in it whenever we used it. Certainly not upto our usual standard of holiday stays. Thankfully we enjoyed good weather when we were down for our fortnight, so we were able not to have to spend too long in the cottage. That said, we did like how the fence shielded you from the road noise. The walk to the cliff top was nice, and the views along the coast were spectacular at sunset. One of the positives of our stay were the guide books, as we like to do a fair number of walks, the local one through Tehidy was quite pleasant. It was nice to get the welcome hamper on arrival and to have milk in the fridge. I think my only other quibble was that it was very hard to get out onto the road as it is totally blind pulling out of the drive. If there was a mirror opposite it would make life far easier. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. Especially for the money that we paid. I have stayed in far nicer holiday cottages in Devon and Cornwall and will not be returning to this one.

A well presented holiday cottage, close enough to amenities while being far away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots.

Lovely walks around the accommodation and friendly hosts. The hot tub hit the spot after long days of walking and swimming.

Had a lovely stay and found the cottage to be very clean and cosy.

We had everything we needed to make it a home from home stay. Loved the local walks along the coastal path and the hot tub was a welcome addition! The only thing we found lacking was a nice pub to walk to - this was something it said there was a mile away in the cottage write up.

Absolutely love the property.

It is safe and has great access to the beach via the farm at the back. Beautiful sunsets just a 5 minute walk away. Property is clean and has everything you need. Beautiful welcome gifts on arrival… fresh flowers and bubbly a great touch. Owner Jack was very helpful and even wanted to leave us some Gelato. We loved it

A lovely cottage in a great location close to Portreath.

Garden was great for the dog, with the added bonus of a hot tub for the humans. Welcome shortbread, prosecco and ice cream very much appreciated. Can't think if any negatives and would hope to visit again.

A lovely quiet area with stunning coastal walks on your doorstep.

Clean and comfortable. Kids (and adults) loved the hot tub. I would recommend the property but we had big problems with Sykes. We had to miss the first day of our stay since Sykes did not get back to us about how to enter the property. This was despite calls, live chat and emails. They are not easy to get hold of. I am still awaiting a reply from their email customer service once we finally found it.

Great cottage, very clean, garden very secure for our two dogs, my wife liked the little touches especially the fresh flowers and ice cream in the freezer

We have had such a lovely time at the cottage it was so warm and welcoming the little extra touches made all the difference thanks to the hosts for the flowers biscuits and bottle of prosecco, also it was lovely to get there and have tea coffee and milk there to have a brew after such a long journey , the hot tub was also amazing, Jack was lovely and gave us details of beaches to visit and told us we could use the lane at the back of the farm to walk to the cliffs which was lovely with the dogs, the garden was very secure which made us feel relaxed that we could let the dogs out and the extra treat of their own gelato ice cream from the farm shop was delicious I have already recommended it to my friends and family thanks for a great holiday

This is an absolutely fantastic property which we really enjoyed staying at.

The owners are so welcoming and friendly and the farm the property is situated on is stunning. The house was comfortable and clean, the decor superb and had everything we needed for a fantastic holiday in Cornwall. It’s also so close to Portreath beach which really made it so much easier with small children and our dog. The garden, BBQ and Hot tub are also amazing and we were really impressed with the standard of maintenance of the hot tub. Thank you for paying such attention to detail to all of the small things too which make a massive difference such as plenty of towels, a washing machine, cleaning products etc. We will definitely be back to stay!
