Speedwell

This is our second stay as Speedwell and it was as wonderful as our first visit.

Speedwell is lovely, beautiful furnishings and very comfortable. Would highly recommend and ideal with a designated parking space. Thank you Sam for the privilege of staying in your lovely holiday cottage.

Another really nice stay, everything spotlessly clean, lovely hamper on our arrival and treats for our Dog Freddie.

Speedwell Cottage was absolutely excellent.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was fantastic, right within the beautiful Charlestown Harbour, with its stunning surroundings and lovely atmosphere. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and would happily recommend Speedwell Cottage to anyone visiting the area.

Lovely cottage in a great location!

We’ve visited Charlestown many times and this place is certainly up there with the best we’ve stayed in! I know it’s subjective but we found the bed to be very uncomfortable, the mattress felt old and lumpy. The bathrooms were modern but the shower design meant the bathrooms got covered in water. Otherwise, we loved the place and would recommend despite these small floors.

Speedwell cottage is well located to access many different areas of Cornwall.

It is in the hub of Charlestown very close to the harbour. It was a quiet area and the cottage was clean and tidy. The pier hotel and Rashleigh arms are very nice places to get a lovely meal and drinks. We enjoyed our stay very much!

When inside we had a lovely welcome hamper for us and the dog.Sam put so much effort into making sure are stay there was 5 ⭐️with so much detail with all the extras. After are first night stay we decided to book for the following year. Thank you so much Sam for a lovely stay 5⭐️see you next year

REALLY LOVELY COTTAGE IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION The cottage was extremely comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished - the armchairs and sofa gave good back support!

The kitchen was very well equipped. The heating was easy to operate and the house warmed up very quickly. We had a lovely week!

We have stayed at the cottage before including twice in 2025, we choose Speedwell to spend Christmas in 2025 as we love the cottage and it's location.

Also the housekeeping team do a wonderful job keeping it so lovely and the communication is brilliant. We had an amazing time and fulfilled a dream come true, Christmas in Cornwall.....

Fabulous property in a fantastic location, central to Charlestown and also Cornwall.

Very clean and well maintained with a major plus of parking directly outside the property. Very helpful when requested a cot and the information pack was useful and up to date. Highly recommended.

Excellent accommodation well laid out and organised plenty of space, great kitchen, lounge very clean and tidy looks like it has just been decorated.

Perfect location in Charlestown which is a great location in Cornwall.

The accommodation was excellent, lovely basket of goodies on arrival.

There are a few points toilet in en-suite was a little cramped but wasnt a major issue because there are 3 toilets in the property. Couldn't find the dvd player ? Couldn't find BBC 1 on the smart tv ? But these are personal preferences. But apart from that we had a wonderful stay & we have already booked for next year already.

Excellent location in the heart of Charlestown.

Well maintained comfortable cottage with easy access to all facilities in Charlestown. Also extremely convenient for walking the South West Coast Path from Fowey to Falmouth. Dedicated parking for 2 cars outside the property is also a great benefit..

It really was a "home from home". The welcome pack was also the best we have ever had. Excellent.

Speedwell was fantastic very comfortable well cared for by the housekeeper bedrooms and the beds very comfortable ensuite and the main bathrooms excellent Living room superb with lge leather couch and 2 very comfortable arm chairs, Kitchen really modern and the garden is a bonus it's a suntrap with a extra lge patio set also garden being great for our 4 legged friend we had with us, parking just outside the property is also a bonus.

We were also left by the housekeeper a nice basket of Cornish goodies from snacks to biscuits to a cream tea we all thought that was a excellent touch and much appreciated. We will definitely be back to stay at this lovely cottage again, sorry I also meant to mention 2 minute walk to the harbour with all the pubs and restaurants.

It's the second time we have stayed at Speedwell and we enjoyed staying there just as much as the first time.

The little food basket was a welcome treat. It's a clean and comfortable cottage in a great location, just a stone's throw from the harbour.

Comfortably accommodates 4. Nice private space to sit out. Easy walking to all Charlestown has to offer and parking outside the cottage is perfect. Highly recommend.

This is our second stay at this property and it doesn't fail to impress.

It is beautifully and thoughtfully presented and provided with a range of useful equipment including tumble dryer, coffee maker, USB charging sockets and a smart TV. The welcome pack continues this trend with the spacious entrance hall providing sufficient room to store our all weather gear with the Christmas tree being a nice touch. Parking is directly at the front of the property. Charlestown itself has a couple of very good pubs both serving excellent food and a few cafe's & other restaurants - all of a very good standard. Will not hesitate to visit again.

The property was lovely and well maintained and situated to suit all our needs.

It was lovely to have the little extras as a small welcome basket and a Christmas tree in the hall which added to our new year experience. Nice little notes left buy the housekeeper gave a more personal touch and the enclosed garden for our little furbaby was a bonus. We will rebooked in the future as we loved are time in your holiday home.

The quality of the offering makes us feel like we're at home when we're at Speedwell.

What a lovely surprise to find wine, milk and clotted cream in the fridge as well as a basket of goodies including scones, jam and biscuits. Highly recommended.

Very good location, easy stroll down to the harbour, pubs, restaurants, and cafes. Sam and Andy are very good. When I unknowingly turned electricity off to the cooker, Andy was there within half an hour to sort out the problem. Would recommend Speedwell for a lovely holiday.

A lovely cottage in a perfect location to enjoy Charlestown.

Great communication from Sam before and during our stay including a bonus early check-in which was much appreciated after our early start. Lots of lovely touches including a really delicious Welcome Pack Filled with Cornish delights. The cottage is tucked away just a stones throw from the harbour yet in a peaceful location Speedwell really is a gem. Spacious inside, spotlessly clean and well appointed throughout. There's parking on the lane outside which is an added bonus. The small courtyard garden outside was a lovely suntrap and very private. Charlestown is a lovely village with lots of fantastic places to eat and drink. We would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Great choice for convenience and comfort. All you need to do is open your suite case and all needs are met in this very well decorated house. Just buy your food for the fridge and freezer and settle in.

What can I say, Fantastic, beautiful cottage, well maintained, exceptionally clean, well-equipped everything you need for your stay in charlestown.

This was our 5th time in Charlestown usually stay at the Rashleigh Arms, but now we've found speedwell will not hesitate to stay again. Lots of restaurants to choose from if you want good food or just a drink. Why go anywhere else.

A lovely immaculately clean cottage in a quiet location yet only minutes from the centre of Charlestown.

One hundred yards to a delightful fish restaurant, Two minutes walk to the beach and three minutes to the local pub / restaurant serving great food. We loved our stay here and found it very relaxing, warm and cosy. We would highly recommend it.

We stayed last December and are just about to book again for this year.

Great property but the part that really deserves feedback is that Andy is brilliant and a real credit to this property. Nothing is too much trouble and he goes above and beyond to ensure a fantastic experience, thank you so much Andy!

This is our third visit to Speedwell and we have already booked for next year.

The property is in an excellent position close to the harbour in Charlestown. Parking outside is easy and convenient. The welcome basket with scones cream saffron buns and biscuits is excellent and last two or three days. The house is extremely well fitted out and provides everything we needed for a relaxed holiday. Since our last visit the courtyard garden has been upgraded and is a lovely place to catch the sun all through the day. A 10/10 Sykes holiday let.

Location location location, we’ve never stayed this close to the harbour in Charlestown before and we loved it!

Speedwell is extremely spacious, homely and comfortable with some lovely special touches. We’d return in a heartbeat, wish we were still there.

This property is one of the best in Charlestown for convenience & locality.

Level walk to the Harbour, The Rashleigh & The Pierhouse. Short & Strong is on the corner as well as The Longstore. Many others are 3 minutes walk away. Speedwell is a very comfortable residence and fully equipped for everyday items if you cook at home. Should you encounter a problem during your stay Andy (the Caretaker) ? is a very useful guy to have around and I award him 5 Stars. We were very taken by this property that whilst there had booked next year. and certainly looking forward to 2024.

Positives - First class location near the sea and all restaurants, the cottage was squeaky clean.

Negatives - Whilst the cottage is a five person bed house there is only enough seating for four. The welcome package was lovely but a worth a mention in the particulars would be appreciated. My only gripe was the guest double bed mattress which was uncomfortable. Some of the crockery needs replacing. Other than that can highly recommend to everyone.

Lovely place very clean and central and spacious, could not wish for a better place. Charlestown a 2 min walk from cottage is a beautiful old fishing port with lots of restaurants and gift shops. Will be back in a couple of years. Thank you. Julia and Richard.

We loved the property and the location.

Instructions for key pick up, parking and even recycling were perfect. We enjoyed lunch and drinks in the garden and walking to lovely places for dinner. Manager quickly on hand when the kettle went on the fritz! Thank you Ps a little shelf in the shower would have been handy.

The cottage was all we expected and more such a perfect position only a few minutes walk from the village centre.

We loved the peace and quiet, the welcome pack, the sunny garden, everything done to make us feel at home. Charlestown is a perfect spot for eating out 'the best of Cornwall' fantastic places on the quay to sample local fish. We did of course have the best weather, sunny for a whole week which did help !!

A beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet spot.

The cottage itself is bright, airy and spacious. A beautiful large hallway and staircase, a really good sized and well equipped kitchen and three decent sized bedrooms with an en suite to the master bedroom. Unusually for me, I slept incredibly well throughout the entire stay. Out the back is a beautiful patio, with a stream trickling by, just beyond the fence. The property is well maintained, with a helpful caretaker nearby, I have to say that the property was absolutely spotless throughout, a rare luxury perhaps. The welcome basket, including milk, cream tea components, bread and coffee pods was a really nice touch and very welcome. Parking is conveniently just outside the property. All in all a perfect base for a holiday.

An excellent holiday home.

We had everything we needed for a perfect holiday in Charlestown. The welcome basket was an additional bonus (cream tea, coffee, tea bags, bread, wine). The garden is a sun trap and sheltered from the wind so we were able to sit outside in the late afternoon. Speedwell is perfect for a Cornish holiday and we would recommend it to anyone who asked.

Very good location with enough room for 4 adults and our dog. Lovely to have the courtyard garden and the ability to park our 2 cars outside . Very clean and well equipped. We hope to return next year .

We’ve stayed in a few cottages in this location and this was definitely the best. Arrival pack was a lovely unexpected addition. Really easy to self cater as there is literally everything you need. Very clean, well presented. Perfect for the dog with the enclosed garden. Even the recycling was made easy. Great location - we’ll definitely be back.

We found Speedwell to be a comfortable house - we quickly felt at home.

We would recommend this house to anyone. The location is great and fantastic for a holiday. It would have been 5 Stars all the way if it were not for a couple of niggles. Firstly, we asked to bring items - when they are already there eg. tea towels, hand gels etc. The wifi in the house is strong and useful but the television is old and not able to display modern apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime and a freeview recorder would not go amiss. I know that watching TV is a secondary event but there are times when it is watched Lastly, the two armchairs are starting to lose their 'bounce'. These 'niggles' should not put anyone off as this is a lovely clean property and a credit to those who look after it.

Speedwell is in a great location in Charlestown, the lane is quiet and flat, a two/five minute walk to shops and harbour.

We had a text message from Andy the caretaker to let us know cottage was ready. Cottage was absolutely immaculate clean comfortable full size fridge and three draw freezer and every type of kitchen utensil you can think of, and a very welcome cream tea hamper, Charlestown is very popular location for filming and there was a German film company filming while we were there. The cottage is within 1-5 min walk to all restaurants and cafes, shipwreck museum. I would not hesitate to book this cottage again.

Perfectly positioned to explore the local area, and generally peaceful to relax and enjoy the sun in the lovely little garden.

Speedwell has been a fantastic holiday cottage which my family have loved to return to over the past couple of years.

It is simply ideal for a holiday vacation in Cornwall, and is situated perfectly for one to take advantage of the many interesting and memorable local attractions. We were ready to book again for the same period in July 2022, however were disappointed to note the price has increased from £1049 (2021) to £1740 (advertised July 2022). With regret, my family and I could not justify returning to this lovely cottage based on this price increase, and have made the decision to base ourselves elsewhere for our next Cornish adventure.

This is a beautiful, well maintained cottage, in a prime location in Charlestown.

The back garden is very peaceful to sit out in when the weather permits, and is a proper sun trap most of the day. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here

Perfect Location. Plenty to do.

Shower in master bedroom isn’t enclosed so found water ended up on bathroom and would’ve stayed wet for most of day if we didn’t wipe it up.

Found had to towels regularly for that.

the cottage is central to the village, set in a quiet no through road so was peaceful but ideally situated for pubs, bars and restaurants.

The parking is conveniently directly outside the premises. There is plenty of room for a family; although we were two plus dog we could appreciate the space. There is a lovely little back courtyard which in May had the sun for a large part of the day. I imagine in high summer it is a wonderful suntrap! The cottage itself is well furnished with comfortable beds and settee/chairs and has great storage space both inside and out. The only thing I'd change is the addition of shelving in the two bathrooms as there is nowhere to put toiletries and makeup. We will definitely look to book there again.

Speedwell cottage was beautifully clean and perfect for our holiday and the welcome basket a lovely addition.

It is situated right in the middle of the village extremely close to the harbour, beaches and all its amenities, which is great for young children or those unable to walk long distances as it is all on the same level. The cottage has a downstairs cloakroom/WC which is not included on the description but was an appreciated addition. The caretaker Andy was brilliant, he called beforehand so we had a contact number, which we did have to use as we were not sure how to turn the radiator on in the en-suite, he quickly came around and assisted us. There were cushions for the chairs in the back garden stored in the shed, unfortunately we only discovered this on the last day so were not able to make use of them.

We booked this cottage at the last minute and we were delighted with it.

Immaculately clean. Comfortable beds. Brilliant WiFi ( important to us!) Excellent location. Charlestown is utterly charming and it is central to many places on the south coast of Cornwall. BUT it Is essential to book restaurants as on arrival on the Saturday everything was full and we got takeaway fish and chips! Do call into Wreckers Deli. Garlic Wrapped Cornish Yarg cheese is divine. Their pasties are lovely too.

Very clean and comfortable with everything you will need for a great hoilday. Perfect location to explore the cornwall and with our fav beach Porthpean just around the corner you can't go wrong.

The house was perfect.

Very clean, had all the facilities we needed and the owners communication was excellent. In the current climate couldn’t have asked for any more. Would like to go back and stay again.

The neighbours were doing building works Tje second week which would start around 8 and finish around 4 Made the stay very noisy Other than that tje cottage was great

We had a excellent holiday walking distance to pubs and restaurants which mean we could have a couple of drinks.

There plenty of things to do with out driving to far and also you can use local transport.

Unfortunately we were not told that builders were working next door so all day starting at 8 am kango hammers were going.

We could not sit out in the courtyard garden the noise was deafening. Infact it made the hole house shake and items were falling of the shelves. If we new there were to be building work being carried out we would of not booked the cottage. I have two boys aged 4 and 7 and they were woken up every morning by the noise. Completely unacceptable. This is our second year at Speedwell.

Beautiful cottage. The only thing we were abit disapointed in was the cleanliness. Cobwebs hanging above bed which i got rid of and the oven and hob were very dirty. We do love it there as Charlestown is is a beautiful place too. It hasnt put us off though as we have booked again for next year. Thanks Julia.

Everything was fine for a holiday cottage

Speedwell was very clean and comfortable and had all the amenities needed and a nice welcome package, there was no need to take the car out in the evening as there are plenty of lovely places to eat in Charlestown and some nice walks in the daytime.

This is the our second visit to Speedwell and we will be booking again.

Little touches of doggy treats fresh scones and flowers left for us was so welcoming .

Speedwell cottage is a lovely airy cottage and much improved by the addition of en suite bathroom.

It is in a brilliant position close to the harbour and all restaurants and good access to coastal walks. Also provides parking which is a bonus. The housekeeper Andy was very friendly and sent me informative texts telling me the cottage was ready earlier than expected. I would definitely go again - this was our second visit.

The cottage was lovely and the location was very convenient for the habour and restaurants.

I believe access would be a challenge for people with mobility issues, as there are stairs and a slippy floor in the downstairs hall. This needs a different surface. The equipment levels are good, however there are some niggling issues with the tiolet banging when flushed and the cooker fan that did not work. Really enjoyed my stay at this cottage and would use cornish cottage holidays again without a doubt

Excellent week.

The crockery and glassware could do with a close inspection. There are a lot of chipped and cracked pieces. The tin opener had gone walk about but Andy replaced it within half an hour. Great location. Loved the wek

There was a great washing machine but no washing line which was odd. There is a tumble dryer but not everything is suitable for a dryer. Overall wonderful and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Speedwell is a fab cottage in a fab location.

Andy the housekeeper was very freindy and keeps the place in great shape. Parking outside the cottage is essential in Charlestown as otherwise you would pay a fortune. Only a short stroll to the harbour with a couple of pubs/bars/restaurants which is all you need locally and plenty of choice only short distances away. We spend most of our time on Porthpean beach which our 6yr old loved but again you are spoiled for choice if we wanted to stop around. Also plenty of rainy day options so we'll definitely be returning.

Was impressed how quickly a small problem was resolved with the bed. Have already booked again for 2019 at the same place.

A lovely cottage in a great location.

On the minus side no hairdryer and my partner found the latex mattress on the king size bed uncomfortable. It was fine for me! Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and found it very relaxing. We would go back to that cottage.

The location was superb, could not have been any closer to local facilities & attractions.

The cottage was kept immaculately, & the cleanliness & functionality of all appliances & general décor was 100%. A very relaxing cottage to stay in for a week, well-situated to use as a base for exploring other areas of Cornwall, & we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Thank you Sykes, Highly Recommended!

Speedwell is a great holiday cottage.

It's clean, comfortable and really homely. Charlestown is a great base for a holiday in Cornwall with great local pubs, coffee shops and restaurants and lovely beaches and walks from the harbour. We will definitely be back.

Great cottage in a lovely location.

Beautifully clean with barely used appliances/ utensils etc. The cottage doesnt have a dishwasher as stated in the listing though.

This cottage is fabulous!

It is warm and clean and has everything you can think of that you might need. The new ensuite is lovely. It is a real home from home. The welcome basket was a great treat, thank you! It has its own parking space and it is just a couple of minutes to the beach and restaurants. We all really enjoyed our stay here and have booked again for next year. Definitely worth a stay.

A lovely cottage; spacious, well equipped, clean, comfortable and very welcoming.

Great location, lovely beaches close-by and farther afield. Loads to see and do; useful info pack in the cottage too.
