Warm, Well equipped and appointed with some furnishing showing signs of age. Good WFI and tv coverage although we missed the DVD player. Bed linen has been upgraded and plentiful hot water

“Only a few small points.”

No cafetiere or steamer for vegetables and the knives were blunt, otherwise a perfect place to stay in Penzance. Very clean on arrival, perfect location with a parking bay, which is rare in town centres. A very short walk to to the awesome Admiral Benbow. It was an ideal base for our bike rides. We loved our week in the bell tower and definitely return. Many thanks for a great holiday.

“Super stay at The Bell Tower, its a very clean tidy and very welcoming place to stay.”

Great views out over the harbour ( looking through the scaffolding bars :( see below). Lovely lot of welcome goodies left, just as well as we forgot our tea bags :(. So cream tea was definitely on the cards, yummy. Our only disappointment was that we were not advised that The Bell Tower had scaffolding up around the building, so hence obscuring the beautiful views slightly and being a very windy weekend, the scaffolders advertising sign was flapping in the wind. But this would stop any future stays. Many thanks.

We had informed sykes to inform guests about the scaffolding. Looks like something went wrong. Also we are asking the advertising to be properly set. Thanks for your understanding Bell Tower is one of the oldest buildings in Cornwall and is undergoing a once in a lifetime renovation and we guarantee will look grand after the tower is repointed The views from the flat have been left maximum untouched the scaffolding mainly on the tower. “Overall, we were very pleased with our stay a 2 The Bell Tower, Penzance.”

The apartment was very comfortable, in good decorative order and generally, met all our needs. However there are a few issues we like to draw your attention to. Firstly, it would have helpful to know on arrival that the washing machine wasn’t working. Instead we had to discover this for ourselves but only after we had first bought washing detergent/fabric softener and attempted multiple times to get it to work, including looking up the operating instructions online as we thought we must be failing to follow the instructions correctly rather than there being a fault. Also, there was leak under the kitchen sink, which again we had to discover for ourselves. As such, we initially thought this must have occurred after our arrival and that we were the cause of the leak. However, on closer inspection, it was clear this couldn’t be the case, which the housekeeper confirmed when we called to report it. Finally, while the apartment was generally well equipped, it lacked a few key items, which we think would have improved the overall quality of the stay. These are as follows: • There was no doormat on which to wipe wet footwear before entering the apartment. • The kitchen only had one tea towel and no hand towel. • There was only one sharp knife. All the others were in desperate need of sharpening but there was no knife sharpener. • There were no oven gloves. • The small tablet of soap in each bathroom was insufficient for a full week’s stay. Therefore, we had to buy more hand soap.

…only criticism is the truly appalling internet service at the accommodation. Hate to have to mention it, as the stay was great overall, but for the expensive cost charged for the accommodation, there should be a significantly better internet access included.

“What a fantastic location and accommodation.”

The Bell Tower was spotlessly clean. The shower was the best I've ever come across, such water pressure is enviable. We had some issues with the main TV on the first couple of nights but were easily able to communicate this to the owner. There is a fantastic view of the dry Dock and harbour from the living area so who needs TV anyway.

“The directions to the property were poor referring to Street names that were not visible anywhere.”

Also the folder in the apartment needs updating, there were two different leaving times, the stair lights are now on a sensor, no instructions for the cooker. Otherwise, really liked the apartment although you couldn’t really see St Michael's Mount unless you craned your neck, otherwise the view was amazing. We didn’t find the spiral staircase a problem but did take small bags as we are late 70s/early 80s. Also no problem with parking but we do have a narrow gate at home.

“Lovely view and position in the town.”

Unfortunately our sleep in the main bedroom was disturbed by the boiler clicking continuously. The dishwasher didn’t work, and even though we reported it to the owner and maintenance company, the maintenance person only phoned the night before we were leaving. The information provided beforehand and in the property was out of date, regarding contact details for the housekeeper and maintenance people. Overall we were quite disappointed, especially as we’d taken friends from abroad and had really expected a higher quality.

Thanks Abraham for your feedback. Bell Tower is presumably one of the oldest buildings of Cornwall and the first registered national school back in 1835. Given the long history of the building and the frontage to the Sea (which gives excellent view), the tower requires once in a lifetime maintenane and works to be carried out every century which was the case this year. As a Graded Building there are also a few more important rules to be respected which means a meticulous planing and carrying out the works is required. This year we have carried out works on the roofs, staircase, windows, entire bathrooms and also repainted the interiors and major parts of the tower itself have been restored. Given such a huge task, which give the Bell Tower back its historical glamour, a few minor aspects maybe need a bit time to settle like the dish washer and boiler. Our maintenance person was informed and he did attend and did his best and felt you were happy but we are a bit surprised with the feedback. We understand your inconvenience and have requested Sykes to return a compensation. We have now taken care of the boiler and dish washer and we hope our future guests will now even more enjoy the beauty of the Bell Tower, its historical tall windows and ceilings and the tower and freshly restored and decorated spiral stair case. We will also soon be updating the listing with the latest Photographs so future guests can get better feeling of the atmosphere we provide. “The apartment is lovely and views from the sitting area were fantastic.”

It was within easy walking distance of the harbour and seafront and there were excellent shops and restaurants nearby. The beds were comfy, as was the living room seating. There was a dishwasher and a washer drier (which had been shut up so smelt a bit musty, but was fine when used) and the kitchen was reasonably well equipped (although only 4 forks, which was a bit random!). We were grateful to have the fans as it was very warm during our stay. It was also brilliant to have a car parking space too - the access was fine for our Renault Captur, but we might have struggled with our larger car, as the access to the car park was quite steep and narrow. The staircase up to it could be a bit challenging, especially as there was no lighting at nighttime because builders had turned them off whilst working on the neighbouring flat, but we were clearly told about that and it was a relatively minor inconvenience. We did have an issue with one of the toilet flushes, but that was sorted out and the maintenance man was great, even adding some temporary lights for us on the stairwell whilst the main ones were out of action.

“The TV in both bedroom was too high we could not reach it to plug it in or the Ariel.”

The boiler in our bedroom was very noisy I could not sleep with it on-and I had to switch off the mains every night. The first 2 nights I had little sleep. The oven did not work properly the first night and the dishwasher would not close. We had to call maintenance out twice during the week. The outside stairwell was very damp and smelt awful. There was major noisy refurbishment going on in the apartment next door. The workmen were very considerate once they realised we were staying there on holiday. Thr first Monday morning was horrendously noisy. We had to contact Sykes twice to deal with various issues we had and they responded quickly and everything was dealt with on the same day. We appreciated the views and the parking outside apartment. We also enjoyed the central position in Penzance of it
