Scillonia

Scillonia is a grand house in a good location, close to the bus and train stations as well as the town.

A basket of snacks to welcome us was a nice touch. There are lots of seating areas both inside and outside. The games/cinema rooms are spacious but always smelt musty. All rooms are of a generous size, although they are furnished in a haphazard fashion, with delightful old pieces mixed in with modern, cheaper-looking items such as acrylic occasional tables indoors. We encountered a number of problems during our stay. Parking is difficult, both at the front of the property and in the adjoining streets. Further afield, there are double yellow lines almost everywhere. The Smeg oven didn't work. There was power to the plug socket, but power did not reach the oven. We informed the contact provided in the event of any problems. Although the issue was reported, it was not resolved during our stay. We also reported a large soggy box, about the size of a single mattress, in the courtyard area. It had apparently been there for some time and was not removed. The outside areas would benefit from a tidy-up, as there were lots of weeds and several dead plants. In the main lounge area, one of the legs on the sofa was broken, so we were unable to use it. This is an old house, and there were noticeable damp issues, with paint peeling from the walls and ceiling in places. In one of the bedrooms, a patch of black mould was visible. Would I stay here again? Probably not, mainly because the issue with the oven was not resolved during our stay and because of the lack of parking. We had a lovely stay.

There were a few minor issues that we felt could be improved. The outside area needed some tlc - lots of the plants were dead, comfier seating was required. The kitchen was very well equipped but needed more mugs. The WiFi kept cutting out. We loved all the different seating areas, we went downstairs for one evening but the smell of damp was off putting. The bathroom with the bath needs updating but the shower room was lovely - shame there's no toilet in there though. The twin bedroom's window didn't open so they were stifling.

This is the second time we’ve used Scillonia in Penzance and we really like staying there.

It’s very close to the town and has lots of space and rooms with character. A real bonus is the games a cinema room in the basement.
