“We had a really enjoyable five night stay at the barn.”

It’s modern, comfortable and much more spacious than we expected, with plenty of room for the four of us. We particularly loved the upstairs living space, which is really light and bright and a lovely family space. The round dining table is lovely too and it was great being able to open the Velux windows. There’s also a very effective fan for warmer days. The kitchen is beautiful and incredibly well equipped, with pretty much everything you could need if you wanted to cook. The appliances all felt new, clean and well looked after. We actually ate out most evenings as Porthleven is only about a seven minute drive away and has loads of great restaurants, but it was nice to have such a good kitchen. Having a washing machine and a really good hoover in the utility room was useful too. The bedrooms are spacious with lots of storage, the beds were comfortable and the bed linen was lovely and soft. The blinds also make the bedrooms properly dark for sleeping. Despite being dog-friendly accommodation, the barn smelt really fresh and clean and the main living areas were spotlessly clean. It’s also incredibly peaceful and quiet, while being really well located for exploring South Cornwall. We didn’t use the garden but it looked lovely and thoughtfully designed with plenty of seating. There are also some very friendly local cats who will happily wander in if you leave the doors open! There were only a couple of things we felt could be improved. The parking is very tight because of the way neighbouring cars are parked around the entrance and driveway. We only had one car and managed fine, although getting in and out did require a lot of care. Had we arrived with two cars, it would have been very difficult to park both while still being able to get in and out, so it might be helpful for the listing to make the parking situation a little clearer. The en-suite shower also needs a little attention. The drain was very slow, which meant the shower tray filled with water almost immediately and took quite a while to empty afterwards. The area around the bottom of the shower screen would also benefit from a deeper clean. These were relatively small things but worth mentioning as the rest of the barn is presented so nicely. There were lots of thoughtful touches, including toiletries, plenty of hand soap, washing up liquid, cloths, sponges and tea towels. For a five night stay, a few more dishwasher tablets and perhaps an extra set of towels would have been useful, although having the washing machine meant this wasn’t really a problem. Overall, we had a really lovely stay. The barn is comfortable, spacious, peaceful and homely and we absolutely loved the upstairs living space. It’s also a great base for Porthleven and exploring this part of Cornwall. Sykes were really helpful and responsive before we booked and arrival was very easy with the key safe. We would happily recommend it.
