This is a unique property with great features throughout, a truly special retreat and quality throughout.
An inspired transformation of a humble cow byre, great vision and careful planning has created a very desirable abode for couples. Detached and secluded from the owners' residents, the barn's beautifully designed open style accommodation offers all the character of high vaulted ceilings with lofted timber beams, wood flooring and a central brick feature fireplace complete with a traditional wood burner. A superb mezzanine bedroom accessed via a short curving semi-spiral staircase looks down onto the spacious living room and the warm fresh colour theme, tasteful furnishings and individual touches combine to generate a comfortable backdrop for a truly relaxing break. From the living room stairs lead down into a tastefully fitted kitchen which again is innovatively styled with an attractively laid brick floor and modern cabinets.
Summer House is in a great position for exploring south Cornwall. Porthleven is just a 10 minute drive with its lovely harbour, fishing boats, fine restaurants, bespoke shops and of course the beach. You are also within a 30 minute drive to Falmouth, The Lizard and Penzance all of which have lots to see and do. There are some lovely coves and sheltered beaches along the stretch of coast from Porthleven to Penzance and you can start the coastal path from Loe Bar. Helston is a market town just 5 minutes by car, where you will find a couple of super markets for your convenience or just have it delivered on your arrival. Offering the timeless relaxation of a sylvan setting that is home to ducks, geese and chickens, lazy alfresco meals can be enjoyed on a raised deck which looks out across the surrounding countryside. Artists and photographers alike will take pleasure in wandering through the owners' woods and picturesque gardens that are vibrant with colour from a profusion of lush planting. Here you will find sheltered arbours, a wildlife pond and a nicely furnished garden room. The grounds and gardens are part of the National Garden Scheme to help raise money for charity. There is parking to the rear of the barn.

Had excellent stay at summer house, certainly a holiday to remember.
Cottage was beautiful and the gardens are something else with areas to suit anybody. The area is ideal for visiting the many beaches and coves around the lizard and further. Would certainly recommend and hopefully revisit. Credit to Chris and Shirley for this beautiful cottage and stunning grounds.

The Summer House and its surroundings are a truly lovely place to stay and you must let chef Don feed you at the onsite Bistro. While you are exploring the pond garden or the sculpture garden and the rest of the grounds you will find Chris and Shirley hard at work creating and maintaining everything and they will take the time to chat and make you feel very welcome. When next I am in Cornwall I know where I will be staying.

This property offers superb accommodation plus having the benefit of a wonderful surrounding garden/woodland.

The summer house is a beautiful barn conversion, very stylish and clean, set in an amazing garden which guests can enjoy at leisure.
Walking around we saw deer, chickens and many birds and lying in bed at night we heard owls hooting, you truly are in the heart of the cornish countryside but only a short drive from the coast. We could not fault it, Shirley & Chris are kind and knowledgeable about the area assisting us with places to visit, first class accommodation.

We had a very comfortable stay at Summer House which is in very private location.
Everything was spotless and well maintained. Whilst is was not an issue for us, anyone with mobility issues need to be aware that as the property is on three levels with a few stairs up to the sleeping area and has a few down to the well equipped kitchen where the shower and toilet is located. The property is in an excellent for visiting the major attractions in Cornwall and guests are able to enter the adjacent Homestead gardens and under cover parking is provided.. Fully recommended and home from home.

The Summer House is a really beautiful and comfortable place, set among gorgeous and extensive gardens, with the added bonus of a terrific Italian cafe within the gardens.
For anyone who loves gardens, beaches and pretty villages, this is a perfect place to relax and explore the surrounding areas. The very friendly owners Chris and Shirley provided everything possible to make our stay a most comfortable and enjoyable one. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage with fabulous gardens in an excellent location .
Shirley and Chris were admirable hosts. We only had to mention that my wife was worried about slipping in the shower than Shirley said she would get a non-slip mat ASAP. And it was delivered within 24 hours. We could not have asked for more and, small matter that it may appear to be, it made our holiday much more comfortable and relaxed. Overall, an excellent property.

We found the Summer House very cosy and warm and the cleanliness was excellent - all the things you look for with a holiday cottage.
The hosts, Shirley and Chris, were very welcoming and friendly and had set up some lovely gardens and country walks, with the big added bonus of a tea room just through the garden gate! Even though it was Winter the gardens still looked great and we can only imagine how glorious they would be in Summer. Ending on a very high note - we absolutely loved the automatic gates and would like those at home! John & Yvonne

We have had a lovely two weeks at the Summer House - a really beautiful and comfortable cottage in the middle of wonderful Cornish countryside and coast.
What made our stay even more special were the fantastic extensive gardens right outside the cottage. This is the perfect place to relax as well as explore this area of Cornwall. The owners Shirley and Chris were really friendly and helpful, and we have already booked to return next year. A perfect place.

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.
Very well equipped with everything you need for a stay away from home. Shirley & Chris have created a wonderful setting with their gardens full of plants sculptures and a well stocked pond to relax as you wander around. The cottage was within easy reach( short drive) of the attractions that West Cornwall has to offer , we particularly enjoyed Marazion and St Michael's Mount a very relaxed peaceful break just what we required.

The Summer House is a perfect retreat for a couple holidaying in Cornwall.
Shirley and Chris have provided everything you could need for a week (or longer.) The lovely new bed was a treat. Use of the Homestead Woodland Gardens keeps us coming back for more - reading in the refurbished Garden Hideaway was so relaxing. The homegrown flowers and local cider and apple juice were very welcoming. Thank you for another outstanding holiday.

The Summer House was in a lovely setting with its own private garden and access to the beautiful larger gardens provided and maintained by the owners.
The descriptions on line do not do it justice. We could have just sat in the gardens for hours soaking in the tranquility and beauty . We were made to feel very welcome by the owners , Chris and Shirley, and we would say this is one of the best places we have ever stayed at, spotlessly clean with everything we needed. The cottage is well positioned for a holiday with excellent walks from Helston, and a number of tourist destinations, beaches, gardens, NT and English Heritage properties. Within a short travelling distance. A week was not really long enough to appreciate both cottage and the location Thank you

We had such a fabulous stay at the summer house with a very warm welcome on our arrival by Shirley & Chris.
A little piece of paradise in a wonderful setting, we enjoyed the tranquility so much we didn’t want to leave. The gardens are of an exceptional standard and considered to be one of the best private gardens in Cornwall by yours truly. An abundance of different species and lots of interesting features in the wildlife gardens & woodland area. Anyone into ornithology would be in their element as the birdsong is beautiful. Seriously do not hesitate to stay at this wonderful location as it’s so very tranquil. Lots of things to do in the surrounding areas as it’s a great base for sightseeing. We absolutely loved staying at The Summer House hosted by Shirley and Chris.
We would heartily recommend this wonderful place to stay to any couple, young, middle aged and older. Shirley is so kind and thoughtful, nothing is too much trouble. The Summer House is so well located and you can easily reach every wonderful place of interest, tourist spot or not. Or you may simply wish to stay in the cosy warm interior if the weather is inclement. Don’t forget to walk round the beautiful gardens and woods, aptly named ‘Primrose’ there were so many. This Cottage was delightful, well appointed and well provisioned.
The location was great for accessing all of east Cornwall being very central. The Cottage was very clean as well warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend any couple to book this you won’t be disappointed. The hosts are helpful and friendly but not intrusive a great balance.

Beautiful barn.
Very well appointed but needs updating. Our only complaint is that the tv needs updating to a smart tv in order to have more choice of programmes especially in the winter months and darker evenings. The bed was far too small and the shower quite restrictive. Other than that we had a great stay.
We are pleased that you had a great stay and it was a pleasure to meet you both. We are disappointed that you have complained about the TV. This is a SMART LED TV. Nearly every evening during your stay you rang or messaged us to say that you were unable to operate the tv. Chris called around each time you contacted us & explained or showed you how to find the channels. He also explained, that in this area, we are not always able to access all of the channels that you have access to back at your home address. There was also a manual for use in the folder. You also mention that the bed was too small! this is a standard 4'6" double bed. Due to the roof structure of the Byre and the exposed timber beams in the mezzanine, we compromised on bed size to avoid anyone tall hitting their head on the beam when getting out of the bed, however, we do think that we could get away with a 5' bed and will consider this when replacing. As for the shower, this is a standard size shower, more than adequate for one person, but understandably, should two persons want to shower at the same time, then this would be somewhat restrictive. You say the Summer House was beautiful and very well appointed but needs updating. Where or what does the updating refer to? We are disappointed that some of the above was not mentioned to us during your stay and that you felt the need to publish this rather than bring it to our attention at the time. Shirley and Chris.

Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and an ideal place to stay. Close to both North and South coasts. Shirley and Chris were excellent hosts both helpful and friendly. The accommodation is spread neatly over three floors and has all the home comforts you need for a week away from home. We love staying here because of the peace and tranquility of the setting, the friendly welcome from the owners and the house's location is perfect for exploring the beautiful Southern coast of Cornwall.

Shirley and Chris have created an unforgettable oasis of calm at the property. The ability to step through the gate in the wall to the Pond Garden meant that every day we had another place to explore after our travels around Cornwall.

Great place to stay in lovely gardens
The owners, Shirley and Chris have got this all sewn up, they have thought of everything, nothing is to much trouble.
The word perfection comes to mind in relation to the summer house, it is just perfect. And so are the grounds. Book this and you will net be dissapointed.

This wonderful cottage will suit anyone wanting to get away from it all.
Despite its location adjoing the Helston/Redruth road we heard nothing of the traffic. The huge gardens are a haven of wildlife including the owners menagerie (Goose, Duck and Hen currently) and the variety of planting and native trees is amazing. Awoken by the dawn chorus set us up for exploring The Lizard Peninsula and beyond which is all on the doorstep. The owners will keep a low profile but, if you need the, they are a charming couple for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. With the whole county to choose from our next trip to Cornwall will certainly be spent here.

Lovely gardens and such a welcome change from the hustle of everyday life. Tea shop just a short distance away with superb food. Ownwers could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
What a lovely place to stay, the summer house isas good as it looks in the photos and the gardens are a delight.

We had a perfect holiday at Summer House.
Felt at home the minute we walked trough the door for the first time. The hosts are great and the garden they created is a beautifull retreat. A one week holiday is almost too short to enjoy it all.

Exceptional cottage - the best we have stayed in to date. The gardens are a wonderful extra and we enjoyed wandering around them immensely. Lots of things to do nearby including beaches and gardens. Shirley and Chris are such lovely, friendly hosts and made us feel welcome from the start. Will definitely return.

Our holiday at Summer House was by far the most comfortable and relaxing self-catering holiday we have ever booked.
Shirley and Chris have provided everything you could need, in a tranquil setting and with exceptionally high standards. The property is unique and perfect for a holiday for two. Having our own private outside space made for lovely breakfasts and evenings. Summer House is located well for exploring Cornwall and the fact we have rebooked for next year already shows how much we loved our holiday.
The accommodation was perfect and set in private gardens that are available for guests was an added bonus.
This cottage was by far the very best we have ever stayed in -- it was superb!
Everything about it was just perfect … the owners Shirley & Chris were the perfect hosts. The cottage itself was out of this world -- so pretty and imaginatively styled.. full of art works and everything was quality in the best condition. The whole place could not be faulted . That is before I mention the location -- a fantastic garden setting with private sitting area -- shade if required -- a bigger garden that opens to the public was ours to explore as well -- it was just heaven ….and, best of all a fantastic tearoom although it was much more than this on site which served exquisite food. The whole place is a credit to Shirley & Chris and I am sure we will return again soon. More places like this please !
The Cottage is lovely well equipped in the most beautiful gardens and feature ponds.
There is a wonderful on site tea room which comes highly recommended . The owners are very helpful and a delight nothing is too much trouble, one if not the best cottages and location we have stayed in.
