Phil “We had a fabulous time in this lovely authentic farmhouse cottage which was very clean and equipped with all we would need during our stay.”
We particularly loved the enclosed garden with a good aspect and enjoyed the sunny patio (as did our dog) as we were very fortunate with the weather. The owners John and Judith were very welcoming, friendly and helpful being on hand for any issues that may have occurred. We cannot fault the property and strongly recommend Shepards rest .

Michelle “We had a lovely stay at Shepherds Rest.”
The property felt so homely and was well stocked with lots of lovely little touches. The beds are really comfortable so a good night sleep had by all. The house was so clean and tidy. It is in a great location and easy to get to and the pub down the road does a lovely meal. The garden is beautiful although we didn't quite have the weather to fully enjoy it but appreciated the garden toys to play with. We will definitely be back as we didn't want to leave! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Michelle, April 2025Delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again, best wishes John and Judith. Property Owner

Mark “We had a lovely time at Shepherds Rest last week, made even better by the sunny spring weather, and thoughtful putting out the garden furniture.”
We were welcomed by Judith on arrival and we didn't need to bother her throughout our stay. The property was warm which was helpful as the nights were still on the chilly side. We'd come back without hesitation thanks.

Michael “Just returned from a lovely weeks break at shepherds rest.”
We found the property very clean and tidy with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. The property was lovely and warm, the king sized bed very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked for preparing meals. The property is situated a few miles off the main road down a pricate lane, which is a bit bumpy, but is a perfect base for visiting the local beaches and attractions and we would definitely recommend Shepherds Rest to anyone wishing to explore the area.
- Michael, February 2025Delighted you had a comfortable and relaxing stay at Shepherds Rest and visited the local area which is less busy at this time of year. Best wishes John and Judith. Property Owner

Good size enclosed garden with patio furniture. Large parking area with no passing traffic as the cottage is at the end of the lane. Nancy “Shepherd’s Rest is everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage.”
Comfortable, clean, and in a peaceful location. Everything we needed was provided (with the bonus of a complimentary cream tea), and we had a lovely stay there. The only suggestion for improvement I can make is that a sharp knife or two would have made food preparation (for those who wish to cook & eat in) a lot easier! All in all though, Shepherd’s Rest is a beautiful cottage which I can honestly highly recommend.
- Nancy, June 2024Delighted you enjoyed your stay at Shepherds Rest, sorry I didn't see you to say goodbye, hope you had a pleasant journey home. I will make sure the knives are sharpened before our next guests arrive! Best wishes John and Judith. Property Owner

Trevor “We enjoyed a great holiday at Shepherds Rest.”
The owners were always available if we needed any assistance but also respected our privacy and let us just get on with it. All rooms are very comfortable and the good quality heating system really helped considering this was out of season. The enclosed garden (there are a few gaps for small dogs to get through) was first class and gave us plenty of space to exercise the dogs. Location is also very good being near to Tintagel, Boscastle and Bude and we enjoyed going to the disused airfield at Jacobstow (dogs loved it).
- Trevor, November 2021 -
Gillian “It was wonderful to make a return stay to Shepherds Rest.”

Anna “The location was lovely, peace and quiet all the time and the owners were very friendly and helpful even guiding us in when we got lost first day.”
If you want to relax this must be the place but it is still near enough to places of interest to enjoy days out then come back to the comfort of a lovely lounge and for once a decent size TV. All in all a very good holiday
- Anna, June 2021 -
Janet “A lovely comfortable cottage, in a quiet but not too remote location down a short unmade track, with absolutely everything that's needed for a great holiday.”
The garden was secure and a good size for my dogs, and was furnished with a couple of sun loungers and table and chairs - a great spot for soaking up the sun or eating. The kitchen was really well equipped, with plenty of crockery and cutlery, pots, pans etc. and the sitting room was comfy with a good TV and great working wifi. The bed was comfortable - although would have benefitted from some new pillows - they were a bit hard and flat - although I guess that's down to personal preference. The bathroom was equipped with a good powerful shower over the bath. The whole cottage was spotlessly clean when I arrived. Although there were no footpaths for dog walking in the near vicinity of the cottage, great walking can be found only a short drive away at Bude, Widemouth Bay, or Davidstow Moor. The only slight thing I would worry about is if the weather was rainy - which often happens in Cornwall - the stress of trying to clean muddy dogs before they get on the lovely cream carpet! The owners live next door, and it was good to know they were there if needed, but otherwise you're left to your own privacy. I would definitely recommend this as a lovely place to stay and I would book again if I was staying in the area.
- Janet, June 2021 -
Lynne “Lovely stay at this bungalow with my brother and wife, it was very clean and cosy.”
It was great to have somewhere welcoming to go back to with the awful weather we had for our week away. We did manage some sun on the last two days and lovely to sit in the peace on the patio. Everything you need is provided at Shepherds Rest and the lovely couple that own it next door are very friendly and helpful.
- Lynne, May 2021 -
Lynne “Absolutely fabulous cottage all that you would want for peace and quiet a real tonic after lockdown John and Judith Lovely people and only to pleased to help if needed did not want to go home will definitely book again.”
- Lynne, April 2021 -
Vicki “We had a lovely stay in Shepherds Rest, a shelter from the bustle of the seaside.”
It's excellently placed for nearby beaches (Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay) and for shops at Bude. The bungalow is well equipped and comfortable, 4 of us (including 2 teenagers) fit in well. The WiFi and hot water were both put to good use. The night sky was spectacular from the garden. The owners were very friendly and happy to help.
- Vicki, April 2021 -
Natalie “The cottage was lovely.”
Extremely clean and spacious. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful which is just what my partner and I wanted to have a relaxing week away. The owners were very helpful and there next door if we needed anything. They even left us a cream team in the fridge for when we arrived which was a really nice touch. We hope to come back again one day when Covid is over.
- Natalie, October 2020 -
Robert “Super facility, great owners.”
- Robert, October 2020 -
Keith “SHEPHERDS REST FANTASTIC THE OWNERS HAVE THOUGHT OF AVERYTHING .”

Neal “Cleanist and most well equipped cottage we've been to.”
.we didn't need or want for anything more. Felt really comfortable from start to finish.. Impossible to find a fault which is a first fo us.. Hope this is the new standard...
- Neal, September 2020 -
Kirsty “The cottage was clean and tidy with a well equipped kitchen.”
The garden was huge which was great for our toddler & dog. The owners were friendly and helpful and were just next door which was useful if you needed anything. The utility area was handy as well as the washing machine (many places don’t have one so we really valued it!). The only thing I would say is that there isn’t anywhere to walk from the cottage, as the roads don’t have paths and aren’t really safe to walk on with a young family and dog (narrow roads with blind bends). This was a shame as it would have been nice to explore the area on foot. I wouldn’t say this as a negative comment as it can’t be altered, it sort of is what it is! But rather I felt I should point it out to make other families aware who book in the future. We spent quite a lot of time in Bude, which is lovely to walk around, so there are plenty of places to go nearby - you just have to drive to get there!
- Kirsty, August 2020 -
William “The cottage is well located to explore the sights, towns & beaches of the North Cornish Coast.”
It was extremely clean, comfortable and very well equipped with every possible need thought of. There is a lovely secure private garden for children to enjoy in a peaceful location. We would definitely recommend this cottage which was good value for money.
- William, August 2020 -
Tracey “An absolutely beautiful cottage in a lovely location.”
Close to Bude and the three local beaches but in a quiet and peaceful area. Spotlessly clean. The owners were extremely welcoming, meeting us on arrival and giving us advice on where to go in the local area. We were delighted and touched to be welcomed with a cream team for the family after a long journey to Cornwall. The cottage is spacious (plenty of room for a family of 4 and labrador), with lots of light, a lovely enclosed garden and a fully stocked kitchen. We couldn't fault it and would have no hesitate to book again.
- Tracey, August 2020 -
Wendy “There was everything one could possibly need in the kitchen, including utensils for home baking if you wanted to.”
Although the double bedroom was fairly small, the bed was very comfortable. The garden area was a reasonable size and we had a fantastic view of the stars at night as there is no light pollution, a wonderful treat for town dwellers. The owners were very friendly and supportive. The cottage was very warm and comfortable. Amenities are a car ride away, but this is a great place to stay if you like a quiet place with only the sound of songbirds and sheep to disturb you. We would recommend Shepherds Rest for a comfortable, quiet holiday stay.
- Wendy, July 2020 -
Kevin “THE COTTAGE ITSELF WAS VERY COMFORTABLE ,COSY AND WARM THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS ACSESS DOWN A DIRT TRACK FULL OF POTHOLES OTHER THAN THIS COULD NOT FAULT THE ACCOMODATION.”
- Kevin, March 2020 -
David “Comfortable cottage great atmosphere my wife myself and our 2.”
Dogs loved our stay. Close to Bude and other beaches was fantastic.
- David, December 2019 -
Patricia “Shepherds Rest is tucked away, in the Cornish countryside.”
very pretty and very quiet. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and had everything that we could possibly need. Very comfortable, and well furnished, plenty of games, DVD's and books if you didn't want to watch the tv. The lovely cream tea waiting for us on our arrival was a nice touch and much appreciated. Added bonus is that we were away with friends who could bring their dog and they like us would most certainly book again.
- Patricia, October 2019 -
David Frederick “Chill out hideaway best my wife and I have been to for years would book again”
- David Frederick, September 2019 -
Barbara “The owners are very nice and welcoming.”
The cottage is off the beaten track and lovely and quiet, the barn conversion is all on one level, and there is everything you are likely to need, even buckets and spades for the beach. Most enjoyable stay, there is nothing to find fault with. We highly recommend “Shepherds Rest” and would like to stay again in the future.
- Barbara, September 2019 -
Melanie “Beautiful cottage.”
It has everything you could possibly need and more besides. Owners were lovely people. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
- Melanie, September 2019 -
Alison “The cottage was lovely!”
Off the beaten track at the end of a hamlet of cottages /houses. Had all the stuff you might want and more. Hosts were very friendly and helpful but also allowed you to enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet. The garden was great for kids and dogs(if you had an escape dog there are some very small gaps-it's a thick well established hedge which leads onto farm land and farmers track. But ours were more then happy to stay in the garden. Some Toys/dvd for outside and rainy days. North Cornwall is dog friendly pretty much everywhere, so cottage very well positioned for great beaches (Bude has several beaches) and places to visit with the whole family - Tintagel and Boscastle to name a few are about 20 mins to half an hour away. There is no phone reception for those that require it but this can be over come with WiFi calling if needs must or just enjoy the silence. Main bedroom is a bit of a squeeze but lovely big bed and the size of room was never a problem for us. Living room/kitchen is lovely and so is the twin room. Thank you for a lovely stay.
- Alison, August 2019 -
Jenny “We really loved shepards rest,it was a beautiful home and setting.”
We were able to access many places from.where we sandy mouth was stunning and with the walk down as was Tintagel. Andrew “This holiday home has it all, there is nothing you have to ask for, everything is provided.”
Yes the owners may live next door but they never bother you unless they see you out and about and may just stop for a chat. The home is lovely, clean and tidy and all needs are catered for when it comes to comfort. Apart from food obviously nothing is needed for the kitchen as everything from dishwasher tablets to Fairy washing powder are provided. The shower is amazing and the beds are really comfy. The garden was ideal for our dog and was secluded.. Yes this house is also on a working farm as the owners are the farmers, but you would never have known as there is no disruption to the peace and quiet you get here. It is ideally situated to visit Bude which is about 7 miles away and the surrounding area. About 4 miles away is a little place called Crackington Haven we used to take our dog there at the end of the day so that she could have a swim in the sea and the big stream leading down to the sea. This home is lovely if you are looking for a quiet get away but not a million miles away from the beach and beautiful countryside. The owner does provide you with a Cornish Cream Tea on arrival, but I was not sure if bread rolls were part of that tea instead of scones which is what we had !! But it really was a lovely thought after a long journey from our home. All in all would we stay here again ABSOLUTELY.
- Andrew, March 2019 -

Steven “Peaceful, cosy, clean and nestled away from the rat race.”
We really re-charged our batteries and didn't need to go far for the beach. Our dogs loved the enclosed back garden and we loved the complimentary cream tea that our host had provided for us. Highly recommend this cottage if it is peace and tranquillity you crave.

The owners were friendly and always helpful this is a property l would recommend to anyone without hesitation. 1st class (we will be back)

The cottage has everything you need. My husband and I stayed for a week with our dog. She loved the garden and surrounding beaches. The owners have thought of everything you might need kitchen wise - right down to cake baking equipment. The cottage is warm and cosy and very clean. We are already planning our next visit.

Claire “Best cottage that we have stayed in (and we have stayed in quite a few!”
). Cottage was spotless and had everything that we needed. Lovely homely feel, great garden for the dog and good location for the local beaches. Will definitely be back.
- Claire, October 2016 -
Alan “This cottage is located at the end of a short but rough, unmade road and is attached to the main building, which had once been a farmhouse.”
The area is really quiet and peaceful; no traffic noise, just the occasional tractor. The building has been skilfully renovated to provide a good two bed-roomed accommodation with a delightful, good-sized lounge and well-equipped breakfast-kitchen. The garden is mainly wild grass, kept short, and is good for dogs and there is plenty of parking space. There is a small patio with four chairs and table should you wish to dine or breakfast or snack outside. Heating if required is very good and efficient and there is free wi-fi, a generously sized television and a DVD player for entertainment during inclement weather. Shops are a good distance away as are restaurants and/or public houses. Bude is probably the best place to eat out without travelling a long distance. I would say the place is comfortable for two to have a really nice, cozy break, maybe a romantic break. More than two and it might get a bit crowded, but it will sleep four in the two bedrooms. Ideal for all-year-round holidays.
- Alan, September 2016 -

About the location
JACOBSTOW
Bude 7.5 miles.
The small village of Jacobstow in North Cornwall has a church and a Holy Well. The nearest shop and pub are situated close by at Wainhouse Corner, with the children and dog-friendly Old Wainhouse Inn offering good food and real ales. Within reach is Bude, a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafe's to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafe's, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre, plus within walking distance are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
